  1. Thanks for the responses to my query. I had to stare at it a while, but I finally realized that the sleeve on the speedo cable housing had worked it's way down the cable over the years/miles until it didn't allow the inner cable to fully engage down inside the transmission. I worked it back up the outer cable, pinched it a little to prevent the problem reoccurring, and now have a perfectly working speedometer. In the process I had the angle drive apart, & the inner cable pulled fully out, so now the whole assembly has been properly greased etc. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks? Ron
  2. Help! '03 Sport Naked, 43,068 miles. Out riding, glance at speedo-reading fine, steady needle. Next glance at speedo....reading zero, not even a quiver from the needle. OK, took everything from the tranny to the speedo head apart. Speedo cable fine, speedo head fine (drove bottom end of the cable w/drill motor, good reading, steady needle). Checked out the little "60 degree" speedo union box (part # 04-76-83-00 in the earlier Spine parts manual on This old Tractor) It appeared to work. I drove it briefly w/the drill motor. Put everything back together. Took the bike out, speedo worked-(w/a quiver in the needle) for about 1/4 mile then dropped to zero..... awshit! Next step? My thought is to get a new 60 degree box & hope that's the worn part. I REALLY don't want to get into pulling the transmission. Anyone been down this road? Ideas? Thanks, Ron
  3. A call to Harpers yesterday-big disappointment, parts for the tranny in my 03 V11 Sport No Longer Available. Bummer. Anyone parting out an 03-04 spine frame? Part most needed is an eccentric bolt GU01234030. Nice to have the nut (GU92606208) & washer (GU95008208) for it, but I can scrounge if necessary. I'll buy the whole side cover assembly (GU01201691) if I have to. Must be from a later model 6 speed, tranny was updated after 2001.Thanks,ronkom
  4. OK I located & printed out the gear box selector page from a 2001-2002 V11 parts manual, and the same page from a 2003-2004 manual. So I can see the parts I need to upgrade & make my transmission right. I'll check into the "kit" (GU973260900017). But it includes a new cover that I don't need and, if it's even still available will be $$. The pieces to make the upgrade are straightforward except for parts where two numbers are listed w/references to "C1" & "C2". I assume I need "C2" parts, correct? Thanks, ronkom
  5. BB, I looked again at the old/improved transmission cover pictured back on page 1. The old (unpainted) cover has a boss in the casting where the hole for the eccentric bolt would be drilled and the area around it machined for the lock nut. My cover is painted black & has the hole & machined area where the eccentric should be. A brass plug is screwed into the hole. What does the upgrade kit that Guzzi had include? A new cover drilled, machined & tapped + the eccentric bolt &nut and the "banana" support w/circlips? I saw where it was VERY expensive. I wouldn't need the cover, can the parts be bought individually?
  6. Well DUH!!! The reason I haven't understood the whole eccentric pin adjustment is that my transmission doesn't have one! The hole it is mounted in on the various exploded parts exploded views is filled w/a brass plug on my transmission cover. In fact, the hole is threaded from the outside and the threads are only cut about 3/4 of the way through the cover. The bike is a Sport naked w/a maroon tank titled as a 2003. The naked model in maroon/metallic charcoal is pictured in Guzzi 2003 literature, but in the parts books the naked is only listed as an 01-02. The vin is ZGUKRAKR73M15043 the motor # is KR017166 (KR0 or KRO??) Can anyone translate those numbers to when it was built? Question: I am the 3rd owner of this bike (as far as I know). I know the last owner was into the tranny to change out broken spring(s). Is it supposed to have an eccentric bolt? Could it have been removed for some reason? ronkom PS have pictures as jpegs, don't know how to "insert from URL"
  7. I bought a left-over 2009 Piaggio MP-3 in 2012, NOS (LOL) ronkom
  8. Virginia Titled '05, title issued when bike is sold. I emailed owner to check the ID plate for a build date & correct his ad. ronkom
  9. A "Greenie" naked Sport showed up on the local Facebook Marketplace tonight. '05, 16947 miles, fresh tires, 5K. I worked on this bike a couple years ago, after it had been sitting. It was in excellent shape then, and, from the pictures in the ad, has been well taken care of since. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/527052838636976/?ref=category_feed&referral_code=marketplace_search&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A4f948d2f-a802-4b87-9258-089f549fb5b9 ronkom
  10. Bike is an '03 V11 Sport naked. The shift spring has been replaced w Chuck/Scud improved version. Ever since I mounted the kit to move the footpegs & shift/brake controls forward I have had trouble getting the shifting "just right". I'm into it for the 4th time. Question, can anyone describe how to set the eccentric screw w/out pulling the side panel? The instruction in the shop manual is vague & describes steps w/the side cover off. Thanks, Ron
  11. The garage started smelling of gasoline (VERY much upset wife!). Traced the problem to the fuel level sensor. Gas is leaking down the wire in the center of the sensor body, so I assume it's bad inside & needs replaced. Problem is that all the parts manuals for the '03 V11 Sport naked I have found on line show the fuel level sensor as a part of the internally mounted fuel pump . My bike does not have the fuel pump mounted inside the tank. The fuel pump is a separate unit mounted to the frame under the tank, and the fuel level sensor is also separate, mounted in the tank bottom (left side), just in front of the petcock. Anyone have a V11 parts manual showing the set-up I have? If so, please send me the part number(s) I need to order a replacement sensor. Thanks, ronkom

    HB bags wanted

Borrowed the picture from a post on Wildguzzi, thanks to source person. Would VERY MUCH like to buy an HB mounting rack/bag set up as pictured. Have Ventura system w/large & small tail bags to swap if interested. Am working on reducing the MB of pix I took of my Sport w/the ventura set-up so I can post to the forum. Ronkom
  13. Did (does) Givi make hard bag mounting brackets to fit our Spine frames? If so, I'm in the market. Hepco Becker is second choice only because I already have two pairs of Givi bags. Thanks, Ron
  14. Thanks Rox, The answer is what I expected, a bummer, but we'll do the best we can. ron

    Tank bag

I like the looks of the Cortech unit, I just placed an order for the Super 2.0 18L strap mount. It was exactly the same $119.99 from Revzilla, Amazon, & Motosport. Thanks for the replies, ronkom
  16. Re/2003 V11 Sport naked, deep metallic maroon tank, charcoal metallic front fender & passenger seat cover, medium grey tail piece & side covers. I got no response to my query re/the medium grey color that is messed up on this bike (don't have any idea what the PO was trying to do). Meantime I've taken the bike to my painter & he says he can paint the medium grey parts the same charcoal metallic color as the front fender & PS cover. He says he can have a match done by the computer at the paint store, but a paint code from Guzzi would be better. Anybody have one, or, know who else I can ask? Thanks, Motresyklman

    Tank bag

To strap onto the plastic Sport tank. I did search through the archives, & got some clues, but, I think the hot set up is to just ask.....Is anyone using a strap-on 18-20 litre (large) tank bag ? Ideally it would be the style w/a "bra" that stays attached to the tank w/the bag zipping on & off as needed. I 'm a troglodyte (use paper maps) & so would like a clear plastic map case atop the bag. The local bike shop has a magnetic mount Nelson-rigg in stock that I set atop my tank & it looked pretty good. It is available in a strap-on version, but I don't think it is the "tank bra" style (hard to tell from a catalog picture). The bag is 18" long, and how well it would work depends on exactly where the front mount would locate. If it fit into the bolt slot in the front of the tank the 18" would be a tad long for my spare tire. Yea, I know, a fat old men shouldn't be riding a Sport....but my mind is still writing checks & pushing my body to cash them. Thanks, Ron
  18. This is copied from my response to another thread, thought it might be missed. ronkom "As I'm going to hang on to the bike, next problem is paint. Bike has maroon tank, dark grey metallic front fender & buddy seat cover, all of which are in very good shape. The problem is a kind of medium grey on the sidecovers and tail piece. A PO apparently tried some sort of coating on the medium grey paint, ruining the finish. I've tried everything I can think of to recover a finish that looks decent...no joy. So, the only option is repaint. Anyone who's had painting done recently knows how ludicrously expensive the paint alone is (two, sometimes 3 component finishes) . And I only need a small amount for two sidecovers & the tail piece . A minimum order of paint would leave me w/nearly full cans to go on the shelf & dry out over time. I don't necessarily need a perfect match for the stock color. My thought is to visit body shops around town & see if anyone is painting a vehicle w/a color that would work & ask if they'd "piggy back." my bike pieces. I have no idea how that request might will fly. Suggestions? Ideas?" PO: Was the grey paint originally a flat or semi-flat finish?
  19. ALL right! I got my kit (Thanks again Doslemans). Installed & been out for several test rides.....YEE-HA I now have a rideable (for my arthritic old body) bike! 20. OK, Thanks for the replies & interest. I have a kit on the way for my bike. In communicating with John about his possibly having another batch of kits made, he made an offer to sell me everything I'd need to take over the business. It is a HELL of a good offer. I thought long & hard about it, even talking to a machinist who could do that part locally, but, reality reared its ugly head. I'm 73 years old, dealing w/heart issues that don't need any added stress in my life, so I have to pass. I asked John & he said I could spread the word that he's looking for someone to buy him out & go into the business of having the parts made, assembling & selling the kits. If this idea appeals to you, contact John Mickowski ......"sixela(at)warwick(dot)net" Thanks, ronkom
  21. A member of this forum designed & had manufactured a kit to relocate the footpegs & shifter/rear brake controls forward. I have been in contact w/John, he has sold out the last kits he had in stock & doesn't want to get into having another batch made. He says he sold around 50 over a five year period, Does anyone know of one that would be for sale? Perhaps a bike was sold to a younger rider who is comfortable w/the stock semi-rearset & took the kit off the bike? Please ask around the Spine frame community & put me in contact w/the owner if one turns up Thanks Much, Ron "ronkom(at)vaguzzi(dot)com"
  22. Well, I now own TWO Guzzis w/out center stands. This week I worked a deal to swap my Piaggio MP3-500 for a V-750III. So now I need a rear wheel lift than can be adapted to use on both bikes. Suggestions? Yes, I do have a bike table similar to the HF one pictured, I bought mine from Northern Hydraulics years ago. The front wheel "vice" that came w/it was a joke, so I fabricated a stop for the front wheel & use tie downs. The hassle w/the Sport is that it took two people to get the thing on the table & tied down safely. I say "took" because I added a plate to the side of the table for the sidestand to rest on until I can get the tie-downs on it.. Getting it on the table & tied down by myself is tricky, but doable. I have an earlier version? of the HF trailering wheel chock on my trailer, but only count on it to hold the bike up until I get tie downs on it. The one pictured looks like it would hold the bike better, I'll check out what my local HF has in stock the next time I'm in there. ronkom
  23. It hasn't taken much work on my new toy (03 V11 Sport) to realize I need a shop stand. My nearest dealer is a 2 hour drive. Is it something that breaks down into a shippable package? Anyone bought one recently? If so how much $$? Anyone have one surplus they'd sell me? I can make myself one if they are unobtanium or the price is ridiculous, but I can't see reinventing the wheel. As this is a GUZZI group (frugal!) I'll bet that more than one has been fabricated in home shops. If one of you home fabricators made sketches/drawings w/measurements I'd happily buy a copy. Thanks, ronkom
  24. Put the cover back on w/a thinner seal washer (.025" vs .038") on the N switch. N light is working properly......on the table. We'll see what happens after I put the oil back in & road test it. Thanks for the replies, ronkom
