  1. Well, ok.. I'll photobomb you..B)

We were in the path of totality, so had a cookout/eclipse party.

My last apprentice, Austin..now the Indiana MGNOC rep, took these pix. As we approached totality, I went to the house and got my birding binoculars. It "appeared" that we could see eruptions around the corona.

The temp dropped 12 degrees, colors changed, and the breeze we had been having dropped to dead calm. Crickets cricketed. :) I thought, "I wonder what it would look like from the air?" Quickly opened the hanger door, did a preflight, grabbed my flying jacket, silk scarf, and aviator cap, kicked the tires and lit the fires.

The spring greens were a different shade, and it looked like a wall of rain 2 miles to the west. The above picture is looking west. When we got there, though, it still looked like rain ahead. Not a ripple in the air. Awesome.

You can see some of the effect in this picture taxiing in. Shadows appeared to be cut out of cardboard, and the colors were still "off.:

Truly a once in a lifetime experience.. it was good for me. :)

  2. Just eyeballing, the length of the bent tab, it looks ok.. but.. on a "factory" spring, I can see a very small stress riser from the spring winder tooling at about the area this one broke. (!) I don't know if I can get a picture or not, I'll give it a go.

When I wound the springs on the lathe, that wouldn't be there.

Edit: Ok, here ya go. I'm betting the tool needed to be polished.

I'm very thankful that my Guzzis don't have 16" wheels. That is really hard.

The Kawasaki GTR 1000 that I have (still, I've been meaning to sell it for about a year...) has a 16" rear wheel. The tyre is a 130/80 16. There are about three tyres on the market in total that fit. :(

Tell me about it. The AeroLario has 16s on both ends. I'm running a little lower profile than stock scooter tires. A guy's gotta do what a guys's gotta do. :huh2:

    Those testy photos..... ;)

you only need to copy their URL into the message, however some sites such as Amazon Photos do not allow embedding.

This site does not let you upload photos as it would require much more storage space. To post a photo, you need to upload it/them into a photo hosting site, and insert the link into your post.

I personally use flickr.com, which let you upload up to one thousand photos without subscribing. But there are others.

You create an account, upload your pics, open the photo you want to post here, copy the URL, paste it and voilà, le tour est joué!

Or you could use Docc's kid. :) 11 bucks a year, I think.

I don't know if it has been mentioned here, so for the record: I reckon I've read somewhere that the frame on the earlier Quota version was prone to cracking down near the swing-arm / shock mount. Don't know exactly where.

    Can anyone confirm the rumour?

I don't remember that one. Wheels, crossover, but don't remember :oldgit: frame cracks. Oh, one other thing.. the original ECU totally sucked. That may have been the low mileage issues. Just the same, It's one of Guzzi's very best touring bikes ever.

@Chuck I saw the four screws you mentioned on the diagram of the workshop manual.

They are at the front of the tank. Must be very hard to put inserts behind....

Yeah, that's the issue. They are molded in, and if torqued too much break the tank. I used a full kit of Caswell's epoxy tank liner and spent a lot of time making sure it was heavily applied on those areas. It worked, and repaired the "unrepairable" tank.

Darth was capable of 50 mpg.. but I have heard of very poor mileage with the Quotas.. even as low as the 20s. (!!)

  7. Yes, all stock Qs had the single throttle body. Mine was pretty highly modified..it was the infamous "Darth Quota".. the Guzzitech commuter in SoCal. If the tank is full of gas and it's not leaking, it's ok.  Mark at MG Classics had *several* for me to choose from when I was going to attempt a repair. It was a common issue, obviously.

I made a semi permanent repair of the turnsignals on the MZ using popsickle sticks as a splint and wrapping them with self sticking silicon tape. They were still ok if ugly after a year. :rasta: A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do..

  8. The red's turnsignal stalks have failed.. a common malady with them. Failing memory says they are the same as the V11S. My MZ Skorpion had em too.. replaced with some generics from Amazon. Cheap. (Guzzi content)

The low mileage black one may have bad wheels? Exhaust cracks? I don't remember the issues exactly. I'm old :oldgit:The single throttle body is a PITA to tune, I think. Mine had dual throttle bodies, so I never had to fool with it.

Edit: Almost forgot. One of the things you *really* have to look out for is the 4 screws that mount the fairing to the tank. If they have been over tightened, the inserts inside the tank will break loose and the tank will leak.

  9. Even the "standard" autopilot is disabled at delivery. The owner has to toggle it on as they are setting up the car, and it clearly says BETA. All the features (driving mode, seat position, mirrors, climate control, speeds in autopilot +- the speed limit, etc. etc. are stored on the various driver's profile.  You have to set all that up for each driver, and it is done automatically as soon as the car recognizes their phone as they open the driver's door.

I don't know what else they could do..
