Went well in France and very comfortable!

Since back the alternator has failed (warranty job) and I 've had the latest maps uploaded - makes the low speed throttle response much smoother and sorts out the hunting/surging at 3000rpm.

I've done 2 more UK trips with wife on the back - very successful.

See you've bought an ST - how's that performing?

  2. I have been messing (Tuning throttle bodies etc)on the Scura and have buggered the black plastic connector that attaches to the right side of the connecting rod that synchronises the throttle butterfly valves.

Does anyone know where i can get one ? It is not a seperate listed part in the 2002 parts manual.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

p.s Ditto for the connecting rod. I can have one made if need be.

p.p.s I recently found that my steering head bearings were well and truly stuffed-Mostly right side damage. They felt fine untill i removed the wheel and forks off the front then click, click click. Worth checking next time the forks are off !

It's just a small ball joint (try Google) with M5 (I think) threads. You will need to file/grind off the old one revitted to the lever connected to the throttele body very carefully.

  3. There is a 'cut-out' in one side of the bearing spacer which enables you to get a drift to gain purchase on the bearing outer. Can't remember which side the cut out is on (could be turned round) but the drift needs to be 6-8 mm in diameter. Hope this helps/makes sense.

  4. This is the horrible 'plastic' ball joint and the original is riveted to the plate attached to the injector. I assume that to replace it with a threaded item you would need to drill out the old one from ther plate and bolt the replacement to it?

  5. The frame mounting points are quite high up on the timing casing - should be the same on all V11 models. I'm afraid the paint does come off particularly where hit be insects/road debris etc. I've already had my rocker covers resprayed once (doesn't effect performance though ).

  6. Hi Steve

Theakstons have now been sold to a large brewery chain and are no longer independent. The guy who used to own the company has set up his own small brewery in Masham and sells a great beer called Black Sheep which is now more popular than Theakstons.

  7. I doubt if there's much point trying to use panniers with the ti pipes in their upswept position. I have Oxford panniers and there's absolutely no space for them. THe height of the pipes means that panniers have to come forward as well as up – then you're sitting on them. Maybe small, shallow panniers will fit, but will they have room for anything more than a set of waterproofs?

If you're travelling solo then the Ventura system seems to work well on the V11 - I,ve been using their system with rack and grab handle for normal riding and it looks quite neat.

  8. Some time ago I posted on the subject of seemingly high oil consumption. It now appears that if I fill to the top mark on the dipstick the engine uses oil quite quickly until the level falls to just above the halfway mark.

After that, it doesn't seem to use any at all. First 500 miles after topping up the level fell, next 500, no change.

    Is this common??

My T3 used to be exactly the same - never figured out whether it was ejecting or burning the 'excess' though.

  9. Welcome aboard!

I'm definitely up for a meeting next year - will try out the tent/bar properly!!

Hope everyone I met at this year's meet is well and keeping the shiny side up.

To remove the piston from either master cylinder you need to use a thin bar as a punch from the banjo connection end. The piston is retained by a compressed ring not a circlip - you need to give the punch a good thump with a hammer to push the ring out. You will need a new piston/seal assembly whcih should be available as a service item. Getting the old piston out is relatively easy - getting the new compression ring to seat squarely is the difficult bit - a special tool would help a lot. Good luck!

Glad my last post helped - great to be the dude (sorry dlaing).

I'm currently rebuilding a V50 Monza and one thing I found that would seriously reduce performance was the advance mechanism in the points was seized onto it's shaft - worth checking if you havn't already.

    Bust of luck
