  1. The whole idea for getting one in my case was to get rid of all the external plumbing and seal the inside so I don't have use to pure gas apps or worry about getting it started after a hot stop. I was also able to find a complete used fuel pump assembly from Teo Lamers for cheap.

Also, I had read in another thread that a small notch in the frame may be required.

  2. I got several of the new relays and have been running them for a little while now with no issues so far.

At first glance they do appear to be very high quality and tightly sealed. The connectors are nicely coated and while they weigh a gram or so more than the others they are at least 5% smaller so they are not crowded together as the others which may help with the heat issue addressed in this thread.

  3. Did you open the unit up at all?

Not yet, The one I have on there now came a NOS set of gauges. Neither the old or the new works which is what brought me here. Just want to make sure everything is as it should be before I crack the eggs open.

    Hi,

the tach is driven by a square wave signal from the ECU, pin3 on the 15M & RC.

    Cheers

    Meinolf

Thanks, looks like a brown lead according to the diagram.

  4. Trying to get some guidance on all the components involved in the tachometer circuit in order to troubleshoot.

When I purchased the bike the tach was not working and from over the years of collecting Guzzi parts I happened to have a NOS tach and speedo so I just replaced it. Unfortunately, this did not work. I know the ground is good because the light works fine letting me know that even in the dark I can still see the tach is not working.

Where to go from here...I assume the signal comes from the ignition. Coils? ECU?

But has anyone considered a carbon fiber tank? That could be easier to fabricate, especially by the DIY types out there.

I have a couple carbon fiber Ducati tanks for my old racebikes, and one nice aluminum tank. I prefer the look/feel of the aluminum tank but the carbon fiber tanks are really light and look cool.

I wish I had not read that...  Now I want a CF tank for my Scura.

I'm sure it's cost prohibitive but there are folks out there making tanks out of Carbon Fiber. They have never setup the shop section of their website as they probably figured out that only Ducati folk are willing to spend this kind of money. They usually show up at Barber's every year so you might get them to ballpark a price.

They do some lovely things to a v11 sport.

  6. Docc,

I have used the Panasonic products in the past. Discovered them when doing business with a company called Easter Beaver http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/main.html (Canadian Guy marries a Japanese woman and...you get the rest)

With all the talk about bad relays I had thought about trying some to see how they held up. They're very durable, well sealed, and tolerate heat well. They are also rated to 35amp. Not to expensive either and I trust a Japanese part to a Chinese one any day.

Have seen these sold as replacements for older bikes. Upgraded connections recommended.

  7. The bars really make the ride more comfortable. No more back pain plus arm and shoulder fatigue is reduced. It does raise the mass but does not displace much toward the rear or at least none that I can tell.

Little harder to shift your weight side to side with my arms in a more relaxed position but it removes a lot of the shock from sudden bumps in the road. In this configuration I don't hesitate to ride a 400+ mile day.

I would ride it for at least a thousand miles before doing any reconfiguration.

I wouldn't risk it. I've heard many horror stories about do it yourself products delaminating, which can (in a worst case scenario) ruin your engine. I did the same thing you did, ie upgraded my '01 to an in tank pump and filter setup, but I sent my tank to be professionally lined by these guys: http://www.gastanklining.com

Not worth it to me personally to mess around with something as critical as this.

Huh. These guys are like 10 minutes from me. Maybe I will stop by and show them my V11 and see what they say.

Certainly would not mind going this way and will be interested in what they say as they make no mention of any type of tank other than metal on their website.

Any feedback from the visit? Busy schedule?
