  2. Located in Phoenix. 12,500 miles. A number of mods/add ons: Mistral exhaust, Stucchi crossover, easily removable MPH bar risers, Pro Italia bar-end weights (significantly reduce vibration), Tekno soft saddlebags. Also comes with an OEM shop stand and the original silencers and crossover. Price reflects the need for a few things to be done: tach looks great but has a short in it that more often than not means it does not work, clutch lever needs to be replaced (tip broke off), starter cover developed a crack that eventually meant I had to take it off, minor tune-up needed to deal with an occasional miss. That said, the bike is in great condition and has been garaged kept and well looked after all its life. Have original owners manual and printout of workshop manual and parts list. For whatever reason I cannot get pictures to post. Bike is silver. If interested best to reach me at mjdoliveira@yahoo.com.
  3. has not set their status

  4. Gentlemen, Thank you for all of your input -- will do as recommended and let you know the results.
  5. Used to have a Power Commander but removed it because of eerily similar problems assuming it was a short in the PC, though at that time the problem went away. Unfortunately have no understanding of the TPS and what is required -- something I will need to bone up on.
  6. Hello everyone, I have a 2000 Sport. Under light throttle the engine will tend to miss but never actually stop running. Once you open it up the miss goes away, for instance it accelerates hard without any problem. I see some problems mentioned about the electric petcock, but I would imagine that the problem would then exist under all throttle conditions. Dirty fuel injectors? No issue with tank suck as I've removed all of the plumbing associated with the vapor recapture system. Thanks for your help!
  7. Have a V11 Sport and a Honda VFR 800 Interceptor. Family commitments have severely impacted my riding time. Figured the VFR was the more practical bike and about 6 months back put the V11 up for sale because I could use the money but pulled the ad as soon as someone expressed an interest. Fast forward about 6 months and I can still use the money so the V11 goes back up for sale -- this time I'm going to be ruthless and do it. Had been riding the Honda more and the V11 needed a small amount of work (nothing more than brake pads) so it was sitting. Installed the brake pads and took it out for a ride. Came home and told the wife (again) that I could not part with the bike. She told me (again) that I was an idiot for even thinking about selling it. I have to agree with her.
  8. $4,500. 12,000 miles. Mistral pipes, Stutcci crossover, Teknic bags, MPH billet bar risers, Pro Italia bar-end weights. Still have the original pipes and crossover and they can go with the bike. Also have the shop stand. Bike is in excellent condition except for a couple of minor items: plastic starter cover needs to be replaced, and the tach is erratic -- most likely a grounding problem. Hate to sell the bike but I'm not riding it much. Located in Phoenix, AZ. Send me a PM if interested.

    DB killers

Just lost one on my Honda VFR 800 -- fell out somewhere while I was riding. Downside to the ones that do not require drilling.
  10. That's the one! Thank you! Good advice on the valve cover gaskets.
  11. There's a great valve adjustment thread somewhere in here -- includes re-torquing the head and has great pics. Can't find it again so if anyone knows where it is I'd be most appreciative if you let me know. Thanks.
  12. ...and that is the reason that the V11 is still around.
  13. Thanks -- apparently the CD I'll get will have the parts manual included. Also includes the owner's manual.
  14. When I left California the very fine gentleman at Moto Guzzi Classics (Mark) recommended EP&F (Encore Performance and Fabrication). They're about 120 miles away. There's still a dealer here in Phoenix (Arizona Superbike), but I'm going to take a trip up to EP&F on Saturday for the fun of it. As for the chain, what a pain! Have not owned a chain-operated bike since 1979. Good thing with the VFR is the single-sided swingarm, makes adjusting the tension a snap. Presently trying to figure out why the chain seems to have different amounts of play at different points (does not seem kinked). Welcoming myself to the world of sprockets!
  15. Thanks and good idea on the workshop manual. Had trouble online so ordered it off Ebay for $9.00
  16. I have a 2000 V11 Sport. I'm certainly not the most mechanically gifted person on this planet, and the continued difficulty Guzzi seems to have to survive makes me somewhat nervous. Recently picked up a 2004 Honda VFR and told my wife that I would pay for it by selling the Guzzi. Even posted the ad, but when the time came just could not bring myself to do it. Did not truly appreciate the character of the bike until I had ridden the Honda for a bit. As I reevaluate some things I would appreciate your opinions on the availability of people willing to work on the bikes, and parts, especially filters and brake pads and so forth. Thanks
  17. Thank you all for the advice and help. Have a great and safe New Year.
  18. Just purchased a set of Tekno bags but without the mounting instructions. It initially appeared to be a pretty straightforward process until I looked at all of the various nuts and bolts that came with it. Before I do something that I will regret, does anyone have instructions/pictures that can assist me? I found a post from 2002 on this, but unfortunately the image does not appear to still be there. Thanks for your help.
  19. Need whatever mounting hardware is needed to go with it. Thanks!
  20. Oooh, a couple of these reposponses kinda hurt in a sense (not in an offensive way, but in reminding me of what I had to do) because I remember how tough it was for me to go the way of adding the risers. The problem for me was that 10,000 miles of "conditioning" led to progressively worse wrist trouble, especially as I did a considerable amount of "general purpose" riding (commuting etc) -- maybe it is my size (6'2") or just bad joints. In some sense you feel that you are taking some of the "Sport" out of the bike when you do so. And you are right that at some stage I will need to consider the seat. Still, if these are the adaptations I need to make to ride the bike because my body respond appropriately, better to make them than leave the bike in the garage. Apologies to the over-40 crowd that do not necessarily share my level of decrepitness.
  21. This is somewhat of a continuation of a previous thread, but got me thinking about some type of wind protection on my 2000 V11 Sport. I've always liked the "naked" look with the sport bars, but eventually got the MPH Cycle risers for reasons obvious to anyone over 40. Problem is that I rode from LA to Phoenix a while back and eventually had to slow down to about 70mph because my neck could no longer handle the strain of riding into a headwind. I've assumed that with the risers a screen will be tough to find, and I would prefer something small and easy in put on and take off. Anyone had success with this "formula"?
  22. Well, I get to exchange the perfect weather of Southern California for the oven that is Phoenix in summer. One of my big concerns is who to take my bike to. I've had the great fortune of putting my bike in the hands of the great people at Moto Guzzi Classics and am going through some withdrawal about having to go elsewhere. If anyone can steer me to a decent shop I'd appreciate it. The closest reference I presently have is in Prescott, so if there is something closer to my new home I'd love to hear about it! PS: am riding my bike out there on Friday. I lucked out -- the temperature is only supposed to be 106!
  23. Looks like I'm going to have to move from Southern California to Phoenix. My biggest concern (forget the kid, etc) is that I am leaving some really fine guys at Moto Guzzi Classics and headed into the great unknown re: a decent shop. Any recommendations in the Phoenxi area?
  24. Have decided to spend about $250 on soft saddlebags (ones I can just throw over the back seat). Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks!!
  25. Spent 2 days trying to think of a snappy comback to do justice to this, but give up.
