  1. oh man.. I'll see if they're somewhere in the attic w/ the blue leather platform shoes I had... which was pretty funny for a 6'2" 17yr old to be wearing...

I truly regret most of the photos I have from the '70's..... corduroy seemed like such a reasonable thing at the time.. we didn't need Recaro seats in the 70's.. you simply lined up your corduroy pants into the grooves of the corduroy upholstery in your AMC Pacer and you were good for multiple G's of cornering force !

  2. well its just a dead battery.. its 3 yrs old, although I only bought it in Feb of this year.

After taking it off the charger it was about 13 volts.

Tried starting it, and it started right up.. Shut it down and voltage was about 12.5..

Left it and went out w/ the kids for a couple of hours.. Came back and it spun the engine twice, then just clicks.. voltage was 11.5

New battery time.. thanks for all the feedback. I gotta make sure I park on a hill if I go riding !

    Cheers,. Tim

  3. when it first started acting up, I took my multi meter and put it in series between the negative terminal and the disconnected negative wires.

With the key off, there was no current so I assumed that there wasn't a stuck relay or short somewhere in the circuit..

So if that still holds, I guess my basic question would be whether you can have a battery that shows 13+ volts, but doesn't have the amps to crank the engine?

    Thanks . Tim

  4. So... just to confirm my thoughts here..

I've got a battery that went flat awhile ago.. Charged it up with a trickle charger, it worked, then died a day later.

Took it to the dealer, they did a deep charge on it and load tested it after letting it sit overnight. The load test was ok..

Brought it home, it died a couple of days later.

Bought a BMW Gell trickle charger. Fully charged the battery and now it won't crank the engine even though its showing 13+ volts ..

When batteries die, do they lose their cranking power even though they might show and be fully charged?

Or perhaps I've got a loose connection at the starter that is introducing too much resistance?

  5. I know there was a thread somewhere (I think by Al) on possible loose connection/ground for the gauge lights.

About a month ago my tach went dark. I pulled the back off the cluster and found the really cheesy sockets for the bulbs. I *think* that the problem is not the grounding, but the wire that goes into the bottom of the socket, which looks like a failure waiting to happen.

At any rate, I've got tach lighting sometimes, and sometimes I don't... Has anyone replaced the sockets for these bulbs? Are there any aftermarket sockets?

    Thanks, Tim

  6. I was thinking about this as well. I was in the Arlen Ness shop and asked their pipe guy if he could do the work.. his reply was that they only did the longitudinal v twins..

(and I say longitudinal only to get Al going again !! :D:D )

So Paul.. you got aftermarket slipons (generic) and then had connector pipes custom made ??

    Thanks, Tim

  7. they're also used on the two wheeled snowmobiles .... aka Victory... so if you're ever in some wierd corner of the planet where there's a Victory dealership and no Buell dealership....

    :D:D

  9. I'm not sure how exclusive this program was... When I first saw my discounted 2001 V11 in Jan/Feb this year, it was at Munroemotors.. I phoned Motointernational and they were aware of the program, explained it to me, and said they had some bikes.. They also said it was poorly managed in terms of the same bike being promised to different dealers etc.. But my impression was that more than OC was participating in the program.. When I talked to the guys at Speed Sports, they said they were aware of the program too, but chose not to participate as it meant an increase in inventory ( I think it was something like trade in 1 bike if you take 2 more) at a time when they had more inventory than demand..

From a dealer perspective, I know it kills your margin, but isn't the point to also attract new customers who will patronize the shop for repairs and accessories ?? I ended up getting the bike from Munroe and have been more than happy with the service and support.

  10. Graham.. thanks for the link.. looks like a nice setup for touring w/ the raised bars and that luggage rack.. Do they selll a lot of pipes? I like the high style ones.

This is a fairly common problem.. I tried a search in this forum for a thread where folks were talking about drilling a vent hole in the gauge cluster. Couldn't find it off hand, but I know its out there.

My replacement tach (for the original which sat at 1500 rpm when off) fogged at first, but then hasn't fogged in 1500 miles..

for what its worth, I was next door to Speed Sports at the bicycle shop on Friday, and noticed that Speed Sports was unloading a bunch of Aprilia and Guzzi demos..

They ran a demo day on Saturday...

I had a similar experience the other week when I accidentally put in car grade gas... ie. the 87 octane I run in the car vs the 92 I run in the Guzzi.. I filled up and drove 80 miles with lots of pops.. then tooling around town at the destination there were lots of backfires.. I ran the gas out of the tank and got some 92.. problem disappeared. I was amazed at how sensitive the bike was to lower octane gas..
