  1. Baldini Yep. We've been big proponents of brake light conservation in my clan for years. If we see a brake light it'll be the topic of conversation on the next stop. (sorta) Welcome the the ShoaLin Garage grass hopper....When you can walk the speedy dry without leaving foot prints you may grind down your kick stand with us. It's all in good fun, like a bunch of old men cheating each other at cards and laughing about it. I can't say Contis are the best or better than brand x. I believe any modern decent tire is fine. I have ridden them extensively in the rain and they never did anything stupid ...like way back when I ran Dunlops....they were a bit... thrilling...in the wet.
  2. Laconia was a great time in the 70s We camped all around the track. There was mahem but no violence. I'm a 14 yr. vetteran and it took about 3 trips to Wiers to make me say "screw that scene" We finally got to the point of saying "I'm sick of watching the racers have all the fun. Let's ride!" Now out of respect for the old days we head about 60mi north of there and tear up the uncluttered roads to the east and west. It's is something to witness once in your life though. Especially for us poor east coast event starved riders.
  3. I just eeked out another 190mi day. I also just discovered the PO put the fuel pump up front on the frame. Thanks PO What about a simple siphon hose inside the tank? Gas seeking it's own level and all?
  4. I'm on my 4th set of Contis. I mostly like how well they maintain their shape even after 5-6000 mi. Then they're on their way out.
  5. This threads still up? I'd just like to say I love America All of America. All 50 states Warts and all. Democracy ain't east. Respect for one another helps it along. I love the Brits phrase "the loyal opposition" Hating or spreading hate among your own countrymen is what the Sunnis and the Shias are all about. Or the Tootsies and the Hutus or...well it's a long list of failed governments. Wanna be like them?
  6. Consider that successful films spend 7x as much money on promotion as on production. The subject matter falls well below the integrity of the production crew, editor and director from what I can see in that trailer. A trailer in it's essence is a marketing device. If I ask myself "Who is that trailer marketing to?" the answer is "a very narrow group". Film making is arduous and I respect your friends hard work but the premise of the film seems less than riveting to this old fart. What with mortgage, gas prices and people being hacked to death in Darfur and what not.
  7. Thanks Tom. The Ducati V.Reg. was total plug and play. $135 ..not bad. 70 mile ride latter and the V-meter is showing 13.8 @ 4K RPM Phew......I feel better For those doing a search I got it here>> http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/frames.html
  8. I was just about to touch my little white knob just the other night but pushed a boot fully back on instead. She really liked that.
  9. Ha! Thanks Tom.... You'd think I woulda picked up on that on MY OWN THREAD!!! Ha!! I love it...that's the one I want...same wires. I'm lame on the electric stuff. Just got my 20 foot new/used boat in the water after 3 weeks of fixin' it up..the Goose has been neglected...and my brain is pudding after farting around with the 115 HP 2 stroke motor. Those things are weird as hell...3 different timing adj. plus calibrating oil feeds. Get it wrong and "welcome to hell". Got it in the water in time for these 90+ temperature days though... yipeeeeeeeee...... Now onto the Goose..... Thanks again T.
  10. After checking as many connections as I can stand I'm going to go ahead and try a new Vreg. to keep my headlight from self destructing. (why doesn't the fuse blow?) So my Q. is......Where's the best place to find the most compatible one at the best price? TIA
  11. Tee hee hee......Ha! The little white knob!!! It's not at all little... It's like a sillcock spigot. It's job is as complicated as adjusting the elevation of your headlight. There are many out there with headlight adjusting PHDs that will take good care of you....and charge you accordingly. It probably needs to go on a dyno...... ....If you want it done really right. So you can beat a Hyabusa...or win a GP .........HA!!!!! really......think about it...it's only a matter of having your butterflies open harmoniously... it might be a little outside your comfort zone so have an experienced mech. balance them but don't let them flim flam you. If it stumbles around 3800 rpms after you paid to have them adjusted tell your mechanic I say he's a poser.

    ohoh

Hey.... At first It sounded like TB boots....... and then I didn't think of it any more...... but I'll bet the solution has 3 components.... 1........simple 2.........stupid 3.........cost less than $10 to fix. Bet ya.......... Good luck
  13. I thought my 6 year old battery died of old age.... Then I lost low beam Then I lost high beam on the new headlight within 10 miles.. Checked the battery 12.6v. off.... 13.56 @ 2K rpm w/ the working low beam Then at 2K rpm on the blown high beam....showing 17V !! Guess I better get on the search board and find out how to check my charging sys....anyone want to point me in the right direction? I know...the blown fuse thread...... All those watts and volts make me dizzzy
  14. Wallowing in a sweeper.........I hate that. The first time I felt it on mine was the day I found goo drippin' from the ol' Sachs...................
  15. 19000........tee hee....it is to laugh......... Your biggest concern is if it's teething is completed. It may not be. Who knows what Guzzi gremlin is poised to ascend. Buy it. Hang around here and Expect to get you nails dirty..preparing for the next 60 or 80 thousand miles of care free motorcycling, Don't think Ducati or Ninja......think Peterbuilt or Kenworth. I can't believe your in Iraq...!!! wow...... Ya oughtta tell us about it sometime. Be safe.
  16. Something sitting that long I'd pull completely apart...just 'cause. Figure on replacing anything that looks or smells like a seal or bearing. Pull everything electrical apart, clean+lube with dielectric grease. That will get you in deep enough to see what else has to be done. New tires and wheel bearings is a foregone.. I don't know about the shaft / final drive on those things but I imagine they'll need special attention and there's lots of Beemer info out there. If your just looking to get it on the road ...just change the vital fluids, give the running gear (forks, axles, wheels, brakes, bars etc.) a safety check, run it (gingerly)and see what falls off, siezes up or leaks and fix it. Have fun........
  17. easy...easy guys... WS took it to the shop...it came out a bit rich. The wrench might not have had the Guzzi touch and more likely been a Ducati snob and not enthused about applying all his precious talents on a mere Guzzi. Remember...not everyone that loves to ride was born with grease under his finger nails. Take it back to the shop WS and find who if anyone there has a particular soft spot for Guzzis and explain the situation. Actually, without doing a "throttle Chop" I don't know if you can get a really accurate reading of the plugs @ 150 mi. The stumble @ 4K sound like classic TB sync problem ....and tell them to set the valves at .006 .008 not Guzzi specs....or we'll come there collectively and fart in his general direction Which one looks like your plugs? http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Spark_Plugs_catalog.html
  18. Oh yea!! .....I really love riding at night. Weather thumping around and letting the sultry air of August caress me or really doing some fun corner carving on familiar farm roads it's some of my favorite riding. On the twisty back roads, approaching traffic gives you a heads up with their headlights in the trees. It's like having radar. I do miss having excellent illumination..(even after my headlight / relay mod.) (The first time my CBR headlight bounced off a MPH sign it shocked me..really.. I swear that thing would melt a candle at 50 ft. )
  19. I'll trade ya Dec and Jan for March and Nov. You get a nice New England Christmas and lots of skiing and I get 2 more months to ride. NO I haven't done Deals Gap on a Guzzi and wouldn't wan to really. The BRP and Skyline yes but the Dragon it self is more 250cc country. Been there twice but like it down by the river better. The law has come down hard on Deals Gap also. Something to keep in mind. The best open country, wonderful Guzzi roads I've been on are in Nova Scotia. Cape Breton. Wide beautiful roads, sparsely settled, cliffs over rocky coasts, zero traffic. There and anywhere near there is just incredible. About 2 days with the spurs on from here. About the same for DG.
  20. Yeaaa... Open the throttle a little... Open the valves a little.... Let her breathe and she'll be spittin' fire
  21. Hey Nan... Glad your diggin' the Guzzi. Those photo's are very enticing. Corners you can see around. I love that. Here in New England it's pretty much a keep your fingers crossed and give the yellow line lots of respect. I'm busy getting the boat ready for the season and was just thinking... we get June July and Aug and it's time to start thinking about the "off season" again. Could you loan me a couple of months?
  22. Mine was an evil mystery to start for a while when I first got it. Did all the goofy starting tekniques and had symptoms like yours until I went to world spec. valve adj. Did you set your valves to Guzzi specs? (too tight) Ever since I opened the tappets up (30,000 miles ago.) she spins up exactly the same every time. One 1.5 second crank @ 1/3 throttle...then another and she's running. Hope it's that easy for you.
  23. All the thanks go to Jaap and everyone on this great forum. I wouldn't have lasted my first year without them. They oughtta have this web address inscribed on the frame of every V11 that rolls outta the shop. Hope you get it sorted soon.
  24. Yea...I was just hosing my lawn mower with carb cleaner before I wrote that. Power of suggestion....I like the propane trick...never tried it but I like it. mc-p ... Yes..you've got to get a real battery in there first off, real relays then some good gas and injector cleaner. You can play musical chairs with 4 of the relays (the 4 pin ones... I think) if you get the battery before the relays. You want a Hawker Odyssey PC 545 battery Around $80- $100 (sorry) but they kick butt from all I've read. Hey..it's only money.
  25. Rats nest............good call. Boots would cause your exact problem too. You could wrap electrical tape around them temporarily to see if that changed anything...better yet...spray carb cleaner around them while the bikes running. If it changes the idle you're leaking air. (Try not to blow yourself up...ok?) Valves .006 intake .008 exhaust is pretty popular. Jumping....not from a running vehicle. Might be ok just from a good battery. ( I got away with it once...the day I bought it nyut nyut...made haggling easy) Definately check your air cleaner for critter nests. I've seen it several times. Gotta take the tank off...3 hoses and 1 wire (I think) 1 bolt. Get in there and get your hands dirty. This'll help a lot. http://www.mphcycles.com/Parts%20Manuals/G...920090_1100.pdf Don't say I never gave you anything..... Gotta love this place
