  1. Found the problem, it was the light relay. It 'bout drove me crazy testing it though. When I originaly tested the relays, I hooked up my power supply and ohmeter with the relay terminals pointing up and all relays functioned fine. However after Ratchethack told me which relay was which I was able to bypass the relays by using jumpers and found everything to work as it should - - It HAD TO BE the relay, so I substituted the neutral relay for the light relay and it worked. THEN I retested the light relay holding it in the terminal down position as it would be when on the bike and it didn't work - I think I learned somthing. Thanks again,
  2. Thanks Ratchethack, I'm gonna' tag each one of 'em now. I'll let you know how the job goes - - Thanks,
  3. My '02 LeMans lost the headlight, tail light, brake light and horn. The schematic tells me that the horn and lights are powered from the light relay which gets power from the N.C. contact of the start relay. I am having difficulty identifing the relays, there are 5 of them and I don't know which one is which, they arn't labeled. I have pulled each relay and bench tested by powering them up and testing with an ohmeter, they all test OK. If I knew which relay was which I could test and provide power directly to the relay socket terminals and bypass the relays altogether. One other thing I might mention, and I don't know if this is related - - while riding yesterday I noticed the tach acting strange intermittantly. When restarting after engine shutdown I had no tach for a few minutes, then it would work fine, also somtimes it would peg on start up then go back to normal after a few minutes Has anyone here had a similar problem? Thanks, Bruce
  4. Well, unfortunately, one of the bikes has to go and after much agonizing I've decided it will be the Triumph. I bought this Sprint new (0 miles) in August of last year, it now has 6,000 miles on it. I have added the Triumph performance exhaust (T.O.R.) with a down load, a Tail-Tidy and Hyper-lites. It has color matched hard bags (the bike is RED). Warranty 'till 10/09. It is about due for tires and I will install a new set before the sale. Asking $7,750 - I will e-mail pictures to anyone interested in purchase. I am located in Virginia, about 45 miles north of Roanoke. Call me evenings at 540-463-2983. This is a wonderful twisty road sport touring bike and I'm going to miss it! Bruce B. '02 V-11 LeMans BMW R 1200 RT Triumph Sprint ST Ducati 900 SS/SP
  5. Thanks for the sugestion but I'm pretty sure the Pre-load and sag are correct, I set up the suspension according to Lee Parks book "Total Control" also had some first hand suspension set-up tutoring from Lee's partner, Tracy Martin, during his "Total Control" class in MD last spring. By the way, I would recomend this class to anyone, I got alot out of it, Tracy is an excelent instructor. I took the class with my 1200 RT and am planning on taking it again on the LeMans.
  6. I darn near had a lowside with my LeMans yesterday. I was pushing it hard through a lefthander when somthing dug in and 'bout lowsided me. Scared the peedoodle outa' me ! I guess I had never had this bike cranked over quite that far before, but I always expected the peg feelers should be the first thing to touch. When I got home I put'er up on the rack and found a big chunk of the kickstand had been ground off and by measuring the angle of attack I realized that the stand will dig in many degrees before the left peg even comes close. I cut off the rubber bump stop for the stand so it's only about 1/4 inch thick and ground the foot of the stand to a new shape that should improve things, but the stand is still gonna' hit first - guess I'll have to go a little slower on left turns. Anyone else have a problem with this? Or a different solution?
  7. I'm really not trying to start an oil thread here, I have a question on just one product, so please bear with me. Has anyone used "Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof" gear lube in the transmission and final drive of their V-11. I have used this stuff for years in my BMWs and would like to use it in my '02 LeMans. I would like to hear from anyone with experience with this product in late model Moto Guzzis. Thanks,
  8. That sounds like an idea Van, thanks for the suggestion. I suppose if I do f**k it up I can always sand it off and try a different method. I like the idea of model paint because I bet I can find something close to the Guzzi red and if it looks horrible, then I'll spend the money for a gun and the proper paint. Who Knows, this may be the begining of a new career, Motorcycle Painter!
  9. Thanks for the replies, I would like to get a pro to do this but I can't find one willing to paint just one part and in this very rural area I do not have a lot of painters to choose from. There is a Sherwin Williams distributor not far from here, I'll go talk to them and see what primer and paint they have available. I painted a car years ago with acrilic paint and a gun, it didn't look bad. I think I'll go that route, I'll post a picture when I finish.
  10. Has anyone ever painted the hard plastic pillion (passenger) seat cover on a V-11 with a spray can? I have a 2002 LeMans (Red) and I would like the pillion cover to match the rest of the bike but don't know if it is possible to paint it with regular old spray paint in a rattle can. Is some type of primer needed? Should I use Lacquer, Enamel or Acrylic paint? Or will I end up with an unusable mess? Also, does anyone know what color and brand of paint might be a close match to the bright red used on a 2002 LeMans? Thanks, Bruce B.
  11. Hello all, I am a long time rider but just bought my first Moto Guzzi (a 2002 LeMans) I have always lusted after one and now I finally own one. I am about to mount new tires and I noticed somthing very strange (to me) in my owners manual. I quote exactly from page 94 of the 2002 owners book - - -- "Some tires have an arrow moulded on the sidewall, in these cases the tires should be mounted as follows: rear wheel: arrow pointing in the direction of rotation. front wheel: arrow pointing against the direction of rotation." Is this correct? I have mounted a lot of motorcycle tires in my time and always mounted both tires with the directional arrow pointing in the direction of forward rotation. Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks, and I look forward to being and active part of this excellent forum! Bruce B.
