  2. just installed the shims and i am happy. pipe is tight and the pinging and low rpm hiccup/backfire are gone. the man said he has only one set left.
  3. thx for the likk. never thought to look at the stickys. i went thru the threads manually for about an hour til i went blind.
  4. my 03 lemans has a loose and rattling crossover i've tried tightened it as much as possible and used 2 different high temp silicones all to no avail. does anyone have a solution? 2 parts suppliers have told me that they could get the replacement gaskets but they aren't cheap and the problem will reoccur. i searched this forum back to 2007 and tried keywording but no luck. plz help. thx, daveg
  5. put 2 new factory relays in my bike and she is cured!i purchased the factory parts so there wouldn't be any question as to whether the specs were correct and i didn't want future issues or possible damage to the electronics.they were 30 buccks per and i got 2 spares just in case.the old ones would work but were intermittent and had to be wiggled in their sockets until they made an audible click.thanx for everyone's input.this site is invaluable for us here in the usa with a weak ass dealer support system.
  6. the problem has been diagnosed!it was the relay.there are 5 in a row from front to rear and the next to last one towards the rear is defective.i am replacing it and the last one too as it makes me nervous.the bike won't run without either one of them removed so i feel it would be unwise to change out just one.thanx for the links to the schematics.i will be looking at them and let you know if they match my sled.thx again.
  7. well i'm back.i have fiddled with everything i could think of and finally gave up back in november.after 2 monthes of dirt bike riding i went back over every connection and fitting again because it was driving me crazy not being able to ride my baby.while turning on the key i heard an odd series of clicks coming from one of the relays under the seat.it was the next to last one in the row, closest to the tail light.i switched the last 2 around and damned if she didn't fire right up.i removed both relays and cleaned the spades up and re-inserted them in their original slots.fires right up!rode the girl all last week to work and not a hint of a problem.i'll keep an eye on this and hopefully the bugs are behind me.hah! doubt that.i have a factory service manual.both it and the small book that came with the bike show only the external fuel pump system.i bought my bike in october 2003 and have the "famous" bubbling engine block paint and has the internal pump setup.is there some place i can score the schematic for my fuel system for future reference?any info would be appreciated.
  8. the saga continues and the girl is as hard to start as ever.played with the enrichner and fine tuned the valves and tried everyones starting suggestions but to no avail.so this weekend i'll try what the tech from calif. speed sport in tracy ca suggested.i'll remove the tank and pull the fuel pump out and tighten the clamps.he said this was not uncommon from the later v11 fuel system like mine.if this cures my starting problem i'll report here.my bike runs great after she's running and the starter cranks plenty fast so this is the the next and hopefully the last.daveg
  9. i'll try the suggestion in the morning and report the outcome
  10. is there an adjustment for the enrichener circuit on my 03 v11 lemans.the problem of hard starting continues but now only when cold.it requires to much cranking in the morning and acts like the choke is inop or not being fully engaged when the handlebar control is used.there's no slack in the cable so i'm wondering if the system has additional adjustments.my bike has the in tank fuel pump and no external fuel filter.bike starts good rest of the day and no acceleration issues.no mods to the fuel system.thx for input again, daveg
  11. after disassembling the pump as far as i could and putting it back together, unplugging and replugging multiple electrical connections, resetting the valves to the tight side of the tolerance, and generally going over everything related to the wiring harness i found nothing overtly wrong.however.....the bike now starts right up.i did nothing in a very scientific manner but apparently touched the right spot in the right way and cured the problem at least temporarily.if i find the exact cause i will post it here for you guys, thank you for your input and i'll be back here soon.
  12. put new plugs in today even though plugs in it were pretty fresh.they looked fine.double checked valve adjustment and it was good.cranks over fine and battery is fresh.i just don't get it. i could take the pump out of the tank but then what?when it's running it runs great.it's just getting it to start normally.
  13. no problem when running jst needs extra cranking to start.if i cycle the pump by turning the key on and off 3-4 time it helps.is my pump going bad maybe?the bike has 13665 on the odo and that is not all that much.as stated before i have little or no dealer support.and the factory manual i bought new when i got the bike is outdated apparently.i guess they revised the fuel system in 03.is there a check valve that holds fuel pressure in the system when the bike is turned off or does it reprime the pressure when you turn the key on.it act like all the fuel runs back to the tank when it sits and then has to pump itself back up.hope i'm explaining this in a way that makes sense.thanx for your input.daveg
  14. have a starting issue.to much cranking until bike starts.pulled tank off to change $66!!! filter only to discover my bike doesn't have one.i have a factory manual and my fuel system is totally different.no external fuel pump either.i'm guessing internal in the tank.is there a schematic for this i don't have to pay for?my bike is a v11 lemans with calfornia emission on it.2003 but i do have the famous bubbly engine paint.no pad on top of fuel tank.i have very limited shop support but a well equpped garage with a lot of guzzi love and patience.oh,and if i turn the key on and cycle the fuel pump 3-4 time it's like i primed the pump and the bike will start almost immediately instead of 4-5 seconds of aimless cranking.thanx for your help in advnce, daveg.
  15. i'll look at the parts link.thanx for that.the plugs are pretty new and the vlves are within spec.i have been lazy on the fuel filter though.just came in the mail today so saturday i'll change it and put another set of plugs in.i've never h a problem starting the bike even when it's 32 degrees or lower.this is a new problem.it acts like a check valve is not working and the fuel runs back to the tank.i know this isn;t possible bu that's what it acts like.with extra cranking it will start.the battery light is another subject.i turned the idle uo and it helps sometimes.at time it comes on brightly at 2500 or higher rpms.i think it's a bad sensor for the light.i've checked the voltageoutput and it's fine.maybe a loose wire somewhere i don't know.no other electrcal problem.one last thing.any one ever have the heim joint bolt that attaches the steering damper to the triple tree snap off ? thanx for input.daveg
