  1. thank you john k.

your bags look good . big but good.

i see that you ised the givi mounting kit.

in my case i have the hardware on the bike from the teknos.

all i have to do is remove the mounting hardware from the rear of my teknos and mount them on the givis. this is what worries me.

and ,i refuse to carry anyone in my bike .

but, when i do carry a girl, not my wife ,she refuses to ride a bike , i usually borrow a harley sporster with the engine mounted directly to the frame.

the vibration beats any vibrator out there.

    and they just love it.

i have to tie them to me to prevent them from falling off the bike.

    all in fun guys .

  2. i have the tekno bags on my lemans.

on my recent trip around new england one of the bags, left side , fell off and was run over many times. did lose my glasses, digital camera, etc.

got a quick replacement bag but they leaked in the rain---tourmaster bags that resemble the tekno.

    teknos are no longer available.

but,i have the mounting hardware that attaches to the bag. and onto the hardware on the bike.

i was thinking of getting givi or h & p bags and use the bag hardware from the tekno ( EASILY REMOVED AND APPLIED TO OTHER BAGS ) , to mount the new bags.

but , the givi and hp or hb are rigid bags and may weigh more than my teknos.

and because the bag hardware can be mounted anyway i want , i can do so in a way that it will clear the exhaust and even incline the bags forward.

    givi has a 36 and a 45 liter bag.

any danger in them sticking out too much ? aerodynamics ?

does anyone of you have any eperience doing this ?

i do not want to break anything on the bike.

  3. your mpg sounds bad .

here is my experienc ewith my 2002 lemans .

on a recent trip from connecticut to vermont to maine and back ,approx. 2,300 miles i had to go slow because one of the riders was on a harley and was kind of new.

    i stayed at speed limits.

best mpg i got was 32 to 33 mpg.

and the bike ran lousy and my body was in acute pain. my plugs fouled up at one point.

when he went back to miami , i went for a 6 hour ride around new york ,west point ,new jersey and conn. we rode fast ,very fast ,

my body did not get tired

    and i got 42 mpg.

on a trip between conn. and miami via back roads and mountains i averaged 42 to 45 mpg with the ocassional 34 to 36 mpg.

    this is about it

  4. went on a 2 week trip and 4 days of rain.

on day 1 the low pressure oil light came on for 2 minutes

day 2 came on .i checked the oil and restarted and light off

    same happened 3 times later.

day 3 light on and i kept riding for 15 minutes .stopped and light off.

is it possible that the rain had something to do with this ?

has not come back on after it stopped rainning

    your ideas please.

also ,because i was riding with a slow rider i had to ride slow and kept the rpm's at 3200 to 3800.

all fine until at one point the engine started to vibrate hard.and the exhaust sounded like an AK47 i supposed it was firing on one cylinder.

have been told that the engine may be running rich and fgouled up a spark plug ???

and ,got 32 to34 mpg for mos of the trip

at one point got 40 mpg.

later i kept the rpm's at over 4,000 rpm except when on the turnpike and did go to 3500 rpm,s for a while but all ok.

any thougfhts on this one ?

    thank you

  5. had always liked this bike.

    but got the lemans instead.

i am a sucker for design and when i saw a photo of the teni i just had to have it.

i then walked into a delership in conn. and they had it on display .that was it.

but lately i have begun to like the goldwing,...a sign of aging ?

  6. .

currently in conn. with 2 other riders . just up from florida . and riding around here until tuesday.

will do essex and thimble islands tmw.

    and west point/bear mt. sunday.

monday open to go somewhere in the area,

leaving norwalk conn. on tuesday june 14 heading to sugarbush where we will be staying.--warren--vt.

will stay there for 3 or 4 days riding around.towards middlebury ,lake champlain and the north country ,may do montreal.

from sugarbush we head to nh and then on to bar harbor maine.in bh for 3 days or so to do all of desert island.

we are all boaters so will be visiting hinckley and other local builders.

may do nova scotia depending on weather .if not will head back to conn. via coastal roads ..........

planning to head to miami from norwalk conn.around july 11 via mountain roads towards deals gap and from there to miami.

    any strays welcome.

  7. ratchet,

the boots i have are the sidi waterprof and i find them very nice and comfortable even in 90 degree/humid miami weather.

but ,the also make one with tiny holes , perforated leather all black ,carbon fiber , and i wear them and they are in fact cool.

but,if the temp. drops to say 66,you will have cold feet. big mistake.

i have a dainesse armored leather suit with tiny holes also, for miami, and it was a mistake.

reason----it is too hot for miami even in the summer ,and up north ,it is fine 78 to say 83. a very narrow range.i have to wear a paper jacket (bicycle type) underneath ,and also ,at times ,a rain jacket over the leathers .

so,what i am trying to say ,is that the perforated leather boots are ok within a narrow temp range.

i think and all weather boot is the best bet unless you get one of each.

    my 2 bits....

  9. my 02 teni came with different front shocks they look like ohlins --color---but they are not.

would it make sense to replace them with konis ?

and what will i feel different ?

    also for the rear ?

any input ? anyone knows the cost of these ?

    fernando

  10. well, just ran across this post as i am ready to post a question elsewhere.......and i cannot resist this.....so..........

i will sell you my 02 lemans teni..has ,i think all of the 03 and 04 updates,

for $ 500.00 but you have to buy the bags ........they come with the bike.

    i will sell them for $ 9900.00

  11. io have a roof ,the f16 pilot look alike . great looker ,but a lousy helmet.

in the rain you get wet inside.

    and built quality is poor.

but,for the looks i would get another one.

have had all the bmw's helmets --made by schuberth--- not that good when you compare it to...............

nolan ,not that good when compared to.................

schubert------heavy mother............and not that good when compared to........

the best helmet i have owned...............top of line shoei...

    it is quiet.

has great aerodynamics keeping your head flat into the wind with no noise and no struggling

    and very dry..................

arai also top notch. have this one also.

bottom line ,if you want the best ,stick to arai and shoei.

i would still get the roof and others ,but with knowledge that i am getting styling and not function ,not as good as arai and shoei.

my 2 cents worth based on owning all of the above.

  12. i will buy another brand

because there is a shortage of good dealers.

the bike is not very reliable.

but it is a lot of fun and i love riding it fast.

but the compromises are many as compared to more reliable jap bikes...

for sometime now i have been riding with a bunch of guys here in ct. and i am very ,but very impressed with the honda goldwing.......

many of us thought that it was a bike for old farts,ect.....

but some who have ridden it quickly change their mind.

and,i have been following one in the back roads and i am impressed by the handling qualities of the wing.,,,,,,no it is not a ducati, nor a guzzi, but in 70 % of the riding that i do ,it does all that i do ,in comfort ,and when they get off the bike ,the wing owners are very fresh and comfortable.

in a parking lot ,at low speeds i was able to do figure 8 with better balance and a shorter turnning radius than my le mans.

is it growing on me ?

    yes........

will i really buy one ????

lets see what the 2006 looks like.i do not like the dash nor the big trunk in the back (i have a fabricator that can remove this, and have already spoken to him )

will i sell the guzzi or the r100 rs ?

the guzzi ,even thou i love the thing and the way it rides.......but on long trips i feel more confident with the wing as far as dealerships and reliability is concerned.

  13. good question richard...

    anyone has the answer ?

is it a question of removing something and flushing or sucking it out ?

after i posted i went into the technical section and the answer is there.......too complicated for me

  14. 2 days ago had the bike at the dealer to check the electrical system and while there i asked him to do the 12,000 miles service.

    did all except

gas filter --on back order, will do as soon as it comes in

fork oil............he did not do......tells me that usually when he drains this the fluid comes out pretty clean.............

and that to do it is labor intensive.........?

    i am concerned here .............

any of you have any experience here ???

  15. thank you jason.

i guess i may have to do a quick and dirty.

it reminds me tha many years agi i ordered euro headlights for a jaguar and once i got them ,same thing that happened to you and had to ship them back to england.

    thank you again

  16. ok ,just got the bike back from branchville .

alex tells me that the charging system is perfect.14.1 14.2.

therefore ,it is the electric clothing that did it.

i guess i need a wing for the winter.

the gerbing people did an anlysis for me and they tell me that my teni puts out 300 watts..........period.

the specs on my bike are--------

    25a x 14v alt. with 13 ah battery.......=300 watts.more or less

well ,the electric switch for the headlights is a must.

and,i was told that the cleanest way to do it is by getting the handlebar mounted switch from europe.

if you look at our switches ,usa bikes ,there is a small plate on top . next to the horn and indicator lights.........the euro model has a switch where this plate is.this is the headlight switch.

getting one next time i am in europe.

if any of you guys in europe are near berlin, dresden prague munchen or zurich please let me know. i am planning to hit those cities with some friends in october and can pick it up then from you. of course i will pay you in advance for the switch.

  17. while going thruogh my old stuff in the garage i found my 1980's hippo hands.

i used them in my 1980 honda c900cb.

for those of you who do not know what this is ,they are large ,envelopes that fit very loosely around the handlebars .

you push them in towards the front and over the brake fluid container ,etc', once at the end you velcro it closed and to make matters better you can add a few pieces of old newspapers.

you then place your hands inside and grab the bars ,as you would do normally.

the hippo hands extend all the way to your elbow.

the outside is leather and the inside is sheepskin.

no need to wear gloves even in 15 degree weather.

just tried them out on the guzzi and my hands sweated .outside temperaure 38 degrees..went out at 7 pm and was out for 1 hour or so.

    better than electric gloves.........

any of you remember them ????

now for the torso and legs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,we havee to invent something.........

  18. i have or may have a problem.

yesterday , saturday my battery died after 200 miles of riding.

i started out with a fully charged battery .

it was cold and therefore i plugged in my electric clothing as follows:

    i had plugged in

    socks ---22 watts

    jacket---77 watts

    gloves---22 watts

    total watts 121.

can my 2002 le mans handle this ?

    or is the problem elsewhere?

i am bringing the bike to branchville on wednesday to have it checked out because i have also added a gorilla alarm , and other small item like a garmin gps.removable.

the bike seems to lose battery charge over 3 days if not plugged in to a charger.

    any ideas out there ?

also, while i was riding ,the rpm needle would drop to zero whenever i used the brakes, the horn ,or the signal indicators.

once i unplugged the electric clothing the needle behaved normally.

my question is ,is the rpm needle also an amp meter watching over the battery.

the needle started to behave like this as the battery was near its end ,about 180 miles after starting out. at 190 miles i disconnected the clothing.

at 200 miles we stopped for cofee and the bike would not re-start.the red light was on when i tried to start the bike and the battery was dead.

    thank you

  19. i have added and deleted 2 posts already and cannot get the site to take the reduced 260 x 400 photos either.

    is this too big /

will try here again one more time

  20. al,

i think the problem with the photos was its size.

i am loading into this laptop the a2 kminolta program that allows me to downsize the shots.once i do it i will resend .

so far the risers are great. for one, they give me better leverage into corners and i feel better holding the line .

and,my arms are totally loose on the bars .my weight is not on the bars thus better overall control .

i thought that the higher seating position ,or mor upright ,would affcet me on hispeed runs on the interstate...........it does a little but all i have to do is crocuh a little and it works ,ans still my weight is off the bars.

so,so far ,i am happy i made the move.

on the negative side, the bike does not feel as sporty as before.but this is more of a subjectve feeling ,i think. with the lower riding position the bike feels better. but it may be in my head.

  21. i am back in connecticut .just got in last nite after 1400 miles on the road ,,by car .

i found the shots i took of the risers and i am attaching them here.hope that it works.

by the way,i came up too early,we are expecting 3 to 6 inches of snow tonite.

heading back to fla in 2 weeks and then back here in late june for a trip to nova scotia with 3 guys from miami.and from there we are riding back to miami via the pa.mountains and also tennesee to ride deals gap and the other great roads in the area.

  22. yes , it is the williamsville .

    the name sounds right.

and sorry i cannot post pictures because the bike is in connecticut and i am in fla.

    but,when i get back i will post.
