  1. Educate me. I have a fixed fairing on my V11, and the speedo cable's joint to the speedo is a non-angled one. My mech told me that because it is non-angled, I need an angled one so that there is no flex in the cable; e.g. the type used by the V11 LeMans. Any grain of truth in that?

    Cheers

  2. Condolences, and yes, do what you think is right.

Last December I had a riding buddy died in a motorcycle accident, on my birthday. I had to be the one to beak the news to the family along with a couple of blokes, it was one of the more difficult things I have to do ever. The tragedy and pain was deeply felt. For me, I regretted not taking up my departed friend's offers to go on rides with him, and he is now gone.

All road users share responsibilities, and I would urge all to have that in mind while on the road.

Take care, man .... hope that you will get back in the saddle when you are ready.

  3. Sad to see you go, really enjoyed your contributions and passion for the Guzzi marque. I own a Guzzi and Beemers, and in many ways the marques are similar. The F800GS is an exciting bike and I can fully understand your choice.

Don't be a stranger, and please ride safe, ya? Do send pics of the new bike; I am sure that you will experience a new and different level of fun. Do contact me if you need support with BMW stuff, I have some contacts built up over my ownership of them.

  4. Yes I did :) I got the quat d ex box from the uk distributors, Dynomax. Overall, I am very happy with the exhaust :) It's not as deep as some regular exhausts, but there is nothing else that i have heard that sounds like it. It is very well built and makes the bike look pretty unique too. A couple things I have noticed - there is a weird whistling noise at certain revs and sometimes it can sound a bit metallic (hard to describe).

Pics say a thousand words, I am told ... either start typing or post pics :)

    Seriously, pics appreciated.

  5. Hi,

I live on the Northern edge of the Sydney basin and would love to catch up with another V11 guy. PM me if you want to arrange anything or if I can be of help while you are here. When is your trip ?

    Regards

    Gregg

    Dear all,

Sadly I am back from Sydney. Saw an old Le Mans while I was at Bronte beach, sounded seriously gorgeous and throaty.

One thing tho, I am touched by the hospitality and kindness shown by the members here, and I will reciprocate if anyone comes into Singapore, food and drinks on me, will play tour guide if time permit too :)

    Cheers, fellas

  6. As far as I know there are no m/c museums in Sydney. The "National M/C museum" is in Nabiac, about 2 hours north of Sydney, and in my opinon is only worth visiting if you happen to be in the area ...the emphasis of this museum seems to be quantity rather than quality, others may disagree. It's title is a little misleading in that it's a privately owned and run museum.

In Sydney Motorino sell Guzzis, they're in 2 locations, one in Darlinghurst (part of the city) and they seem to have plenty of time to talk.

Tom Byrne M/C has Bmw's and are literally a 6 iron shot from Motociclio that Pete mentioned.

Go and have alook at Deus ex Machina ( latin experts can translate) in Camperdown....they do er...strange things to Jap & Brit singles & twins & have a range of clothing to excite the inner city trendoid would be rocker types...and have an equally buzzy doof doof cafe too....have a look at their website.

If you're after old Brit parts Jim Eades in Ashfield is a 1950's time warp shop...but check opening hours and take your credit card.

There's a big Italian bike show with all the marques once a year, I think in September, well worth it if that's when you're here.

I live in the Southern Highlands, just over an hour south of Sydney on the way to Pete's and have several bikes. A good day trip would be to drive here, we ride the 1.5 hours to Pete's, ogle/test ride his Griso, have lunch, talk shit then return. I'd of course have to stop every half hour or so to tighten the zorst nuts on the commando but I'm confident the Guzzi would make it that far ok. Bearing in mind too it's as cold as a mother in laws kiss here at the moment.

If you're at all interested in cricket a visit to the Bradman museum in Bowral is a must....slight thread drift I realise but worth a mention. If you're into aircraft a whole different world opens up.

Give me a call if you want (0412 001821) ...there's a good chance I'll be away in Singapore when you're here but you never know.

    Jeff

Missed your post when I was there, lodging had no internet. Nonetheless, give me a holler if you are in Singapore and I'll feed you well; I have a passion for food!!!!!

    Cheers

  7. You chose a poxy time of year! :D If you're coming soon that is, middle of winter and more likely to be wet and horrid.

Lots of bike shops in Sydney of course but Guzzi dealers are thin on the ground. I'm about 2 and 1/2 hours South and I'm just a small workshop that at the moment is not doing a lot as I'm in virtual full time care mode for my Mum in Law who has Parkinsons and Vascular Dementia but If you'd like to drop up for a chinwag I can offer you a ride about on my 8V Griso and Aprilia Mana, (Providing you understand that these are my personal bikes and not just 'Demonstrators' to be thrashed mercilessly to 'See what they'll do!'.).

John Viton at Motocicolo in St. Peters is good value but he's very busy and doesn't really have time to just stand around chewing the fat.

    Pete

Thanks for the offer, Pete, extremely kind of you. Will see how I can factor a "chinwag" into my trip. :) No promises but will let you know if I am swinging by.

    Cheers

  8. Hiya, Planning a trip to Sydney; Is there anywhere where I can go look at bike gear, look at airheads or bikes, etc .... where are the BMW and Guzzi shops located? Is there a bike museum? Thanks loads for all advice.

    Cheers

  9. my bike is about 13,000 miles. A mate of mine said that it hasn't been broken in, hence it will not hold the idling unless warmed up. Something about the engine still being "tight". Load of bullock or half-truth or complete truth?

    Thanks for the enlightenment ....

  10. Note that there are key pins (or what you call them) around the bolts so you need to lift the plate straight up from the box a couple of mm before you can move it forward and away. So you will probably need to remove most of the engine and gearbox bolts anyway.

Just an update. We gave up, ... just not possible to remove the mounting plate without dropping the engine and gearbox from the frame. Wonderful, these bikes :)

  11. Heavy bar ends (ordered by Moto International) worked very well here too!

I tried to email Greg from Moto-International to order a speedo cable and bar-ends and got a rejection message. Are they still around?

    Cheers

  12. Hey st. augustine, Not sure where you saw the story, but I got it from my Aunt about two monthes or more ago. The attached copy said a pack of wolves chased that bear out in front of a semi truck. I'd much rather go huntin' that way. Even more expensive, but much more reliable! Damn shame either way. What a damn fine, scary, frikken' example of a genuine beast, uh?

    P.S. LOVE the RS

I am so darn happy the bear made it ...... :D

  14. Hiya, gents

Yes, my friend and i do appreciate the gravity of the "worst-case" scenario. He is the one who asked me to consult the members here on whether to take the risk to ride with the hairline. Thing is he had not ridden the bike for a year (yes, it's been that long) and he does not want to delay the roll-out if possible. I'm grateful for the input of members on any problem, more often than not, this Board has been more informative and valuable than any manual on Guzzis. B)

The crack is on the mounting plate, and we will try to remove it without dropping the tranny. I am sure that my friend would have contemplated that, but we'll have a (second) go anyway. I wonder what lies under the mounting plate, so it is a good opportunity to satisfy my curiosity. Obviously if it is the tranny case then the risk is reduced, as opposed to direct access to the tranny internals.

Is this a common problem? I understand that the Jackal / California's tranny is also mounted this way.

    Cheers
