  1. My v11 2003 with cat also has low idle speed. About 800-900 rpm. At the workshop they tried to TPS the bike, but the bike just stalls at what would be the normal values for other v11's. Have a topic about the whole story from ok to bad

When they did the TPS, the bike was revved all the time for about half an hour en reading from the ECU engine temp, it was about 110˚C.

So I think that for my bike with cat, the low idle seems to be normal. And the temperatures too. Have you checked the oil itself (mybe bad oil, I've full synthetic 15w60), airfilter(just in case) and sparkplugs(can tell you about the lean\rich condition plug colors, thanks to Ratchet :D ).

The engine itself is bulletproof. The problems are often the things around it, as I lately noticed. :helmet:

    Good Luck! :luigi:

  2. notice you say there is a lambda sensor. don't have them on us or nz models.i assume they are on the exhaust pipe?on us cars they are called oxygen sensors. it is possible to remove it--[them] and spray with carburetor cleaner,it might help

I am installing a new handlebar, opportunity to clean the sensor.

PS no reply from the dealer :not:

  3. Yesterday had my last exam for this year. On my way home a car behind me started to honking, the driver d me that my side stand wasn't retracted. :o

I drove about half a mile in a city and all the turns that I took were to the RIGHT. So I guess the little angel on my bike protected me.

On further inspection, the micro switch isn't making contact with the side stand. There is a piece missing. In the past the side stand switch worked correctly, because this wasn't the first time I forgot my side stand(my 2nd) . So check once in a while if your switch is working.

  4. This dip is in addition to the "normal" hole in the powerband from 3-4.5k rpm? Or just where your tachometer [each gauge package reading different, as they aren't precision instruments] shows the standard dip?

Enquiring minds want to know! ;)

Not exactly, the dip is really from about stationary to max 3k rpm. A little above 3k rpm runs really smooth.

  5. Today I got my first speeding ticket. It's because you all told me to drive above 4000 rpm, what I did. It's totally different and much better. Also hit the red line once :D

About the ticket. I drove 100mph were 60 was allowed. :mg: I was pulled over by cop on a beemer.

I was lucky to keep my license and he found my bike very beautiful B) After all the corrections I drove officially 24 mph too fast.

He didn't know how much I would have to pay. Ill get the fine after summer holidays.

BTW I am expecting from all of you to chip in :P

  6. Got the bike bike today. It runs as before, with the dip between 2k and 3k. So it's back in the original state :D

I also send the chief a letter about all the things that happened. I just couldn't tell him the whole story trough the phone. I said that I paid too much for the first checkup and that I don't know what was fixed. Example, it says on the bill, the valves are checked, only checked or also adjusted? I am waiting for his reply.

Now I can't put the Power commander, not enough cash. And then the speeding ticket. Somewhere in october/november I'll make a new appointment.

  7. Wy dont we tune the v11 to be the yamaha vmax 2008 eater :P

The v11 just isn't build for that. And 90hp is enough for the bike.

I think all these discussions are started because moto guzzi isn't building a super sport line or at least showing us some concepts, what all of us would like to see.

But never mind me. I am also glad dlaing and ratchethack found each other again.

  8. Very glad that you are ok. As you said yourself almost everything is easy to fix except for the upper sump.

Here is a site for some spare parts Reboot spares . Maybe its cheaper than ordering an original one. For the costs, I'll say about 500-1000 (worst case) dollars for materials.

  9. The called me today. The bike is fixed, 210 euro's investigation costs?!??!? They gonna drop the bike on Thursday, free of charge

I cant wait to see what was done to the bike or investigated. :luigi:

The good news is, the mechanic told me that bike runs really good and that I don't need the power commander. So, maybe they really fixed something that could explain the price tag. Test run on Thursday. More to come, stay tuned...

  10. Hm. I fully understand that plain spoken, unvarnished truth is offensive to many people -- but understanding that there are such people and understanding why there are such people are two different things. This would be the part I really don't get. It doesn't exactly fit together very well for Yours Truly. One might say that I find this in itself infinitely more offensive.

Unless I missed it, no one here said running high gears at low revs is the same as saying, "3K RPM and below is an adequate place to accelerate from in a high gear!" :huh2:

Why the argument indeed. . . Lemee see if I can shine some light into the sudden, amazing appearance of all the apparent darkness and confusion here.

What part of the following had you missed in your reading and/or had you wilfully [sic] misunderstood, then?

Now could somebody please explain how it is that certain individual(s) seem to've taken such offense at anything that has been said in response to this? Certainly none was intended, and evidently the author took no offense himself.

Ummm. . . that is, unless of course, there are someone(s) who believe their own ox is being gored here?!?!?! ;)

Other than the moped exaggeration, and that was made previous to the above (that was a bit of a stretch alright. It was chosen to make a point), if there've been any mischaracterizations of reality or distortions of any kind on my part here, would the someone or someone(s) who seem to've been particularly offended here be kind enough to point out exactly where these untruths appear?

Enquiring minds. . . (well, you know)

EDIT: Here's a sentiment that just crossed my path that seems to fit quite well, I think:

"If we don't come down hard on these clowns, we are going to be up to our balls in jugglers."

    -Tom Weaver, N.W.A., Sandford, Gloucestershire

I've drove about 1200km, have the bike for about a month and it's my first bike. So, I don't feel offended at all, I just didn't knew. Learning all the time. And the bore x stroke, mentioned earlier compared to Harley's explained it all.

It's just I didn't feel like I was hurting the bike in 6th at low revs I was just cruising at low speeds and trying to avoid these fkn bastards :

Oh jeeez......Let me pile on here :)

    3K RPM in 6th?

Not the proper care and feeding of a V11. Kinda off the general feel and fun too.

I only get into 6th hunkering down to drain a tank on the 4 lane. I get over 40mpg (my best)

in 6th 4.3K / 80mph. She's just walking. I love her for that. One of the thousand reasons to grin.

Day tripping, playing on the back roads I might drop below 4K once in a while

then again I might chug through a town, past a police station, in a lower gear @ 3K.

Below 4th gear she'll happily pull with normal throttle opening from 3K.

Mostly it wants to be above 4K. with lots of zips up to 6K and more.

I believe your whining tranny was trying to tell you something.

"Whip me, beat me, put on the spurs, get out the whip!"

Hey...A V11 is just that kinda woman. :)

She's a hot blooded Italian. She wants some excitement in her life. :)

I suggest a few trips to redline......blow some of that carbon out. :):mg:

Don't worry. You haven't hurt anything. Just diminished her spirit a little.

Ride it like ya stole it.

    I'll do just that.

    Thx for input,

    Godspeed!

  11. This is very interesting, I hope I'm not stealing the topic. But I always thought, 1100cc twin engine, enough torque. So the bike should easily run in low rpm in high gears.

Keep in mind that BOTH 5th and 6th are OVERDRIVE ratios through the box. If your 6th gearset is failing, it'd be possible to ride and enjoy the Guzzi for a lifetime of ownership and proper use of the transmission at any speed below 90-100 mph without ever using it.

What dou you mean with overdrive ratios. For higher cruising speeds? :helmet:

  12. SM, if by "whine very loud", you mean that it's significantly louder in 6th than the other gears, you may have a gearset going out, though at only 7500 km this would likely be due to a bad gearset from the factory. It's possible, though I think this would be a first as long as I've been on this Forum, and I've never heard of it happening to any V11 on any other Guzzi forums either. I'd check the magnet on the drain plug very carefully. If there's anything beyond a tiny hint of a fine "beard" on the magnet at this point, and you find a swarthy "growth" of grainy pieces, it's safe to assume there was a bad hardening process or that some other problem exists, and the gearset is chewing itself up.

Now what you're doing riding the V11 in 6th at 3K RPM is your business, and this is just me, but I consider this behavior Guzzi abuse. At 3K RPM, the motor is hardly making any more torque than a 50 cc moped at WFO. You're riding a 550 lb motorcycle, f'er cryin' out loud! The V11 motor is not a Motor Davidson Harley Cycle stroker motor. It doesn't start to make appreciable torque until it climbs out of the "hole" at 4500 RPM.

IMHO you should NEVER apply serious throttle in any gear above 3rd unless and until the motor is above ~5K RPM. If you just want to "toodle" around, 6th gear is a couple or three ratios TOO HIGH for this! In NO circumstances and at NO speed should 6th be used to buck a headwind and/or climb a long grade.

    BAA, TJM, & YMMV

WOOW Ratchet, I didn't know this. Sometimes I just ride in the 6th with 2000-3000 rpm. Now that Im thinking about it, I hardly get above 5000 rpm in any gear. :homer:

Think I need to change my riding style drastically :o I always thought high gear low rpm for the fuel economy, unless I can feel the bike is torturing itself.

AND NOBODY TOLD ME OTHERWISE, well I didn't ask

  13. I've called them today and they have almost fixed the bike. The bike is running crazy (gaat als een gek! (for the dutchies)), after they took it for a test ride.

The mechanic also told me that on of my spark plugs wasn't working correctly??? That he also adjusted the valves (what I already did 2 weeks ago) and some other things.

I tried to tell him that I am not willing to pay all the costs, because the bike was broken because of their servicing. He told me that he will call me on Thursday with all the details of the work and the costs and that I shouldn't worry too much.

At TLM they don't have a dyno or other hardware to change the mapping. I really thought they did have it. I've made an appointment with Ruud Fredriks from Tovami to put a Power commander and have the bike on the dyno. This will happen on 10 of July.

Then on 16 July at Hyper Pro services to get now springs and adjusted to my weight (the mechanic there told me that I can watch what he is doing and he will explain me everything I need to know  ). And 20 July I am finally ready for ride in the MotoGP of USA. :D

Thanks for your input friends, I'll post new findings on Thursday.

  14. I put the pod filters on almost as soon as I bought the bike so I cant really tell you about the noise difference. I also wear a helmet so that filters a lot of it too. Besides my Rosso Mandello has the single plate clutch & its a noisy bastard anyway.

    Loud pipes saves lives
