  1. So this might be a dumb question and I've heard about the hose clamp thing for the filter and having to drop the sump plate "Blah Blah" which seems like a lot of work and I've done my oil change a few times since owning the bike.

So here's the thing whats the matter with just pulling the cover over the filter off and checking it once in a while which is what i do with no problems so far,I'm no Mechanic and there are people on this site with more Guzzi knowledge than I'll ever have,"Just wondering".

    Stu.

  2. I still manufacture the plates and have them in stock. Problem I currently have is that I'm now not only 'Mr. Moto Guzzi' but also 'Mr Aprilia' between Sydney and the Victorian border and I have as much, if not more work than I need just dealing with the newer bikes and havent been able to really respond as I should to requests about plates.

My apologies. I don't log in here very often so it nay seen like I'm ignoring requests for info. I'm not, I'm just up to my armpits in V7's and CARC bikes with the odd RSV-4 and Tuono thown in. Keep pestering me and I'll respond when I get a chance.

    Hello Pete

I am interested in purchasing one of your plates if you end up having time to get one ready to ship.

Just purchased a 2001 rosso mandello. Thanks

    Ditto what he said

Me to,whats MPH?not miles per hour obviously.

  3.

Now this Pawl spring thing i do have the new one to go in from M.G.Cycle,I'm not what you would call a Mechanic but will attempt most things if not to complicated,I'm a little worried about the boss supposed to be 1cm to thick on the 2002s,"IE"16 but

should have been 15cm correct,so do i somehow get this fixed or chance it with the new spring.

    Thanks Stu.

Stu, the 'new' springs were made with wider diameter spring coils, presumably so that they would work with the variety of sizes that the MG pawl arm comes in! wacko.gif

Therefore you should be ok to just fit the spring.

The best thing would be to measure the parts when you do the job, to be sure that they do work freely together.

If you do find that you have the oversized part and that you do need or want to get the original 'proper' spec (because the spring looks tight when fitted on it and operated) then you can either file down the part that you have, when you are doing the job, or put together the bits that you have, order a new pawl arm and then fit it later.

OK Belfastguzzi I think I'll give it a go.

    Thanks Stu.

  4. Belfast has updated the FAQ

    nuff said

Thanks Mr Monkey i think I'll give it a go and worry about the Pawl arm later, have my 91 GSX 1100G on the road right now after i moved the INSUR over from the Guzz, now It's down needing a bit of welding on the frame,so down to my 04 KLR now if it springs a leak i guess I'll have to slit my throat.

    Stu.

  5. Thank you for the info Belfast and DeBen. Almost seems a foolish question now about the stumps, I do recall 1 such quiz and it went flying over my head, had never heard of the beast in question.

Hi Sullvarni, the road with the lake and hills is in the Kootenay between New Denver and Kaslo. The other shot is down low on 5a, Merrit-Princeton. You're right though, that shot could be Hwy 4 heading to Alberni except the mountain is sitting at the wrong end. Happy pawl spring replacing, new ones are heavier duty and make sure the coil can't bind on the boss. (all the gack is in this site under pawl this or that). Heres to 2002 Lemanses, proper Italian engagement :bier:

Ok i was through both those HYWs two years ago i also did the Merrit to Spencers Bridge which me and the Guzz enjoyed very much no traffic and the hammer down, can you say Heaven.

Now this Pawl spring thing i do have the new one to go in from M.G.Cycle,I'm not what you would call a Mechanic but will attempt most things if not to complicated,I'm a little worried about the boss supposed to be 1cm to thick on the 2002s,"IE"16 but

  6. Ha, lots of us still come in for the pickins and snippets of great info. Like most vultures tending to hang quiet overhead till triggered into action by some opportunity. Welcome back DeBen great site this. Has a lot of humans I wouldnt mind meeting on the road. Heres a question for you long term guys, as a latecomer here (2008) I get the Italian number one but what is with the tree stumps on the signatures? JRT has one and Heli Jim has a forest. What gives?

Congrats on the greaser, heres my scoot on the road. Cheers

I'm in Northern B.C. near Smithers have 2002 just like yours with a busted pawl spring right now,i seem to recognize that road is it on Vancouver Island going out to the west coast, just a guess, probably wrong.

  7. Yup sounds like the pawl spring.

If the pawl hasn't been replaced with the updated one you may want to consider doing it while in there,The boss on the original one was believed to be incorrectly sized causing the spring to break. They're about $70.00 but may save you several hrs of labor down the road by replacing while the cover is off.Several people have reported having springs break more than once and most of them didnt replace pawl arm.2-3 hrs of my life is defiantly worth $70.

    FWIW

So where do i get one of these updated Pawl springs and do i really need to replace the Pawl arm?

    Thanks Stu.

  8. I've had my 02 Le Mans five years now and and It's been good to me so far,but was out for a spin and was gearing down and nothing,it went into neutral but the neutral light is not on,stuck between gears?

I managed to limp home when i found a gear,i have the foot control relocation kit bought off this site from i think his name was Ryland and has worked OK so far but when i got home i noticed the nut on the gear linkage rod had backed off,i pulled the rear shock res'ervoir and starter motor to get at the linkage and tightened everything up but It's still appears to be in neutral with no light on,would this be the pawl spring issue?

Apology,s for the long winded post any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks Stu

  9. I'm there! Just give me plenty of warning on the dates...

I understand there are only 150 tickets so best to snap em up quick when they go on sale. Ladies and gentlemen from outside the UK don't need a ticket and can pay on the gate but let me know if you are coming for sure and I will inform organisers.

    Guy

Wish I'd known about this sooner,I'm in British Columbia Canada and have a 2004 Le Mans and this would have been a good trip to make as I've been thinking of shipping it over to the U.K. to do some riding in Europe, and my Sister lives in Newton Stewart which is right close to the rally,I'm booked for Mexico in April so no way i can make it,maybe next time,"Dam",is this event held every year?

    Stu.

  10. Unfortunately, the Guzzi fashion boffins applied the alligator skin finish to the engine instead, but that's another story.

:notworthy:I bow to ya, thanks for explaining! now I know what to call the engine dressing on my '02 Lemans lol

I have a 2002 V11 Le Mans and my engine didn't get the POX so can someone explain a Y or a what for this so i can sleep at night without wondering if and when this might happen to mine,Tanks.

  11. Hey Orson I made it over here thanks for pointing me in the right direction. fooking Guzzi I haven't slept properly since Monday night when I made a deal on this 2003 with 2500km. I have had a picture of a LeMans on the shop wall for a few years now, Saturday if all goes well I pick it up. I will apologize now because I will probably be a pain in the butt, I do most of my own maintenance mainly because there isn't a dealer within 300 miles so I will be asking LOTS of questions. Hopefully it wont take to long to start contributing back to the collective. I have owned several motorcycles over the years (how many years doesn't matter does it?)Currently have only my 990 Adventure in the stable. But have owned FJ's back in the day, V-strom, 1050 Sprint ST, KLR and .....a bunch not so notables. Can't wait to register her in the proper thread. I plan on riding the hell out of it here in British Columbia, Canada Any way been lurking around for a bit now lots of info here. Don't expect me to post again until I am one of the paesano

    ride well

    David

David where abouts are you in B C? I'm out in the wilds also half way between Prince George and Prince Rupert, have a 2002 leMans, not much riding this year the weathers been crap.

  12. Thanks for all the considered replies folks.

As I suspected, the answer is,

    YES; and NO.

    :stupid: .. :stupid:

I think that's what you expected as far as the replies go "Yes",and i agree with what most people say that we don't want to screw around with the old motor which is what Guzzi is,having said that the New water-cooled motor if it ever arrives should help to get a few more G Gee's out of the old girl "Maybe"!and might get a few more people into whats left of the dealers all-though the V Rod hasn't done anything for Harley.

I was in a dealer in British Columbia this summer and he still had a Norge on the floor that was there when i bought my 2002 LeMans, not from him, at the end of 2007 and they still want almost the same price for it "Go figure",ultimately Guzzi will always be a boutique motorcycle maker as in MV,Moto Morini,Benelli,Bimota,so where do you go from here, maybe God knows i don't.

    Stu.

  13. Merry Mixmaster to all.

So i have this friend who is looking into purchasing a Norge this one is a new 2009 going at a really good price,"Soooo" there seem to be a few leftovers around and I've seen a few on Ebay for sale barely a year old or so,what i want to know is does anyone on our V11 site have any insight as to why there not selling to well and what are the known issues if any,i know It's not one of our bikes but it is a relative and it is a Guzzi, just trying to help a friend.

    Thanks Stu.

  14. Another late summer bike event passes, the Isle of Vashon TT. For those not living in the North American North West, this is a Greater Seattle event, geared towards the classic/vintage/antique bike scene, the main event of the year for the Seattle based VME [Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts] club. Riders from as far south as Portland, Oregon, as far north as Vancouver, British Columbia.

Anyways, I try to head down every year, about 130 miles one way. I get up around 5:00am, hit the border by 6:00, and make the Vashon ferry crossing by 8:30. This year took down my 20 yr old GS, maybe not a true classic, but is approaching the age, where it is now warmly welcomed amongst most of the event. I've taken my Nortons a few times, the RC30 Honda as well, and the 400-4 SS Honda, all classic bikes now, not just of age, but with general standing as collectable machines of merit.

I've held off taking my V11 Sport, too new I've told myself. I've always cursed under my breath, the guys showing up on modern crotch rockets, or new Harley Davidsons. I mean crap, there's got to be some Harley rally these guys can go to rather than an old bike event. Just go away you idiots!!!

So, about the late Spine Frames??? 1999-2005. I spotted at least one 2002 red/grey Lemans, one red framed green V11 Sport, and a couple more 2003+ Sports within the assemblage this year. 5 years ago, I'd have questioned these things showing up. But they were made in fairly small numbers by other manufacturers numbers, and with the red framed Sports, are around 10 yrs old now.

So, when will it not be in 'bad form' to show up at a 'classic' event on a V11 Sport????

Steve i realize It's a classic rally but not everyone has a classic bike to go on so does that mean they should not show up at the rally after all they probably just want to look at bikes just like you or I,sounds like the Cafe Calabria doesn't have a great reputation for service or food whats your take on this?and when is the Vashon TT held inquiring minds want to know.

    Thanks Stu.

  15. There were short spacers. You know how Guzzi likes to produce 'special batches' every now and again, of, er, 'lightened' parts. Particularly around 2002.

This is about the only part that I ever got on warranty from Guzzi – except that it took over a year to arrive. I kid you not.

Meantime, I made a little shim instead.

So can someone explain just how i go about finding out if it is the spacer "IE"what exactly I'm looking for,is it the width of the spacer,or how it's mounted, and what is the measurement between the bearings supposed to be,thanks in advance.

    Stu.

  16. Just did 3.200 KLms on mine around British Columbia Canada also,(i live here),the funny thing is my riding partner was on a DR 650 duely talk about Mut and Jeff, the Guz ran like a Swiss clock almost,my rear wheel bearings went again, put new ones in last year,i know this is an issue with these bikes but only getting a year out of them is a bit much.

I to spooned on a fresh set of Pirelli Angel tires on mine before i left, what a difference from the Bridgestone 020s that were stock, can you say confidence inspiring,i looked for the twistiest roads i could find and with my Techno side bags Ventura top bag and tank bag loaded to the N*^s the Guz never missed a beat,God i love this bike if only i wasn't 65,it should be illegal to have that much fun at my age.

I was nearly home when my oil light came on also after some hard miles so my question is are the windage plate and the Roper sloppage plate the same thing and if not where can i get the windage plate and is Mr Roper still making his,as for your foot controls there was a chap on this site who machines a new setup which moves the controls forward for a more comfortable riding posi'tion which i purchased along with his oil pressure gauge kit in anodized Gold "Bling",i can't remember the name offhand it was Tech something, his post name was Ryland i think.

Looks like Galaxiid found his grease fitting in Post #22 on page 2.

Hey, Stu, definitely get a pic up of your modified grease gun.:pic:

This is it the swivel head filed down a little, and now for the pic I hope this works! It did I'm a freekin Genius,"Not".

  18. Bob,

Could you post a picture of your "modified" grease gun fitting? It would be helpful to know where and how much to grind, and the right fitting to start with to make this a "2 minute job."

    TIA, docc

I agree with Ponti all that talk about removing this and that i did what he did get a swivel head grease tip file it down a little be careful i over did my first one and have at it,fiddly yes but a lot less hassle than dismantling the rear end,i can never get pics to this site but will endeavor to do so as i have a good shot of said grease fitting.

  19. The previous owner of my RM found his original factory tank bag, and basically gave it to me. I don't know if he ever used it, and although I'm sure I can find a way to fit it - any of you out there have any suggestions for the most secure way? It boils down to:

    1. Is it really necessary to run the back strap through the fuel tank bolt? Mine is misaligned, and the last time I had the tank off it took waaaay to long to get it back in. It looks like the pressure of the seat against the tank may secure that end.

    2. What's the preferred way of routing the front straps? Just loop them through the front frame "V" behind the steering stem?

I'm also wondering if using this bag ccan cause any scratching/wear on the paint on the gas tank. I had been using an ancient Eclipse, which never bothered the paint, but also never stayed on the tank. Thanks!

I've got one on my 2002 Le Mans i do have mine secured by the tank bolt but with the seat on and no bolt i don't think it would be going anywhere,as for the straps just run them under the top spares of the frame and your good to go.

I don't see any marks or imperfections forming on the tank, the only problem with my mine is the main zipper to open the the bag is starting to give me grief other than that it's been a good servant.

  20. True enough, but the resale on a Guzzi has always been pretty dismal as well. So, now I have to decide between the air-cooled XB12 and the new 1125. As much as I like the idea of all that power, I do like the familiarity of the air-cooled mill over the new, somewhat untested rotax motor. The looks of either don't bother me much after seeing them in person.

What are you talking about untested motor,Rotax has some of the best four stroke motors on the planet Bar none and do lots of development work for other manufacturers around the globe.

Who do you think did all the development work on all BMWs motors for there 650 duel sports and there new 800s,not to mention how many lite aircraft have Rotax motors in them and on and on,Rotax is actually owned by Bombardier here in Canada, excuse me for getting my nikkers in a knot,my 2 cents.

    I feel better now Stu.

What a daft old limey show that was but oh so funny, being an x Brit i can say that, have a whole wack of them recorded on Video tapes, pull em out once in a while and still get a big chuckle, seems a little corny in this day and age but i suppose that's what makes it relevant life was a bit simpler back then it seems.
