  2. Thanks, I actually found the thread on another site and now understand what that bolt is. A security bolt!!! I was wondering how to get that bugger off the bike without having to cut it or something. Thanks, Jim
  3. My ignition switch is falling out. Put the key in the ignition and noticed that the whole ignition mechanism is wiggles. I checked and noticed that one of the two bolts has gone missing. I've read about this before but cant find anything on it doing a search. IN any event, the bolt that is still there doesnt have a slot to tighten it!! What kind of bolt do I need to replace and how do I replace it. Thanks, JIm
  4. Im going to do my first oil & filter change on the V11 Sport. Did them before on mY Cal Special but this bike is a bit different. After I disconnect the two oil lines comming into the rear of the oil pan, do I just unscrew the remaining underside bolts so the pan "falls" off. Once the pan is off - is it easy to remove the filter. I dont have the special Guzzi filter wrench - I have an all purpose filter wrench from Sears that works fine with the Cal Spec. When I reattach the oil pan - are there are special gaskets/crush washers, etc... that I should look for on the two oil lines. I do have extra pan gaskets. If Im missing a step or missed gotchas - let me know. Thanks, Jim
  5. Have some crazy electrical issues with my 2000 V11 Sport. Om a close visual inspection I noticed that the right side bolt that bolts the battery shelf to the frame has boatloads of white corrosion. I need to clean that up but where does the batter gound to?? I suspected that bolt - but do not see a cable comming off the frame. BTW, I have a new battery and no corrosion on the battery terminals themsleves. Jim
  6. Thanks all. It may be a grounding issue after al. I noticed that one of the bolts that holds the battery tray is covered with a white plastic powder. Im not sure if this is the battery ground - but if it is Im in trouble. Im going to clean it all up and see if that makes a difference. Thanks, Jim
  7. Sounds like Im not the only one. First off, all relays have been replaced Bousch- new battery replaced two months ago after old battery appeared not to be able to hold a charge. Here is my latest like of issue: - tried to start the bike after it sat for about 6 weeks- all lights on, FI on but hit the starter made the rat-tat-tat sounds like the battery was dead. Didnt have time to look at battery - put it on the Battery Tender - started perfect next day. - Rode around the next day - slow speeds, many bumps on dirt roads- hit the starter button and got the rat-tat-tat sound and then it started. Got gas latter that afternoon and bike started right up. - Last night went to start it no dash light, tack was dead, and now no headlamp but the bike started. - turned it off and on again - all dash lights except tach & headlamp - started fine. - turned it off and on again - all dash lights - tack flicked off & on and so did headlamp. - Went to the relays pushed them around a bit - all lights worked bike started fine, tack worked fine, headlight fine.... Something is amiss. I cant keep stopping and pushing relays around or if I hit a bump the tach and headlamp quit working. I have noticed that the out of the 5 relays only two are screwed into metal bracket - the others just float around. Could these come loose. Might I have a bad ground, alternater or regular (since my battery sometimes seems to be the culprit - I'll chekc that tonight). I love this bike - but like other things I love (wife & kids) - Im ready to shoot it. Jim
  8. After having intermittent problems with the bike stalling - I switched gas to Sunoco 94 and it stalled like crazy. I put BP 93 in for the past several fill ups and have not had any problems with stalls or hiccups or anything. The outside temps have been about the same so maybe its a gas or octaine issue with the bike. Any comments?? Jim
  9. Funny you should mentin this. Just last week for the first time that I have noticed - the oil light came on & off a quick stop and start. I thought I was seeing things as it has never happened again and I have had it out 4-5 times since. Maybe time to add a little oil? Jim
  10. Snorkels- thats it. I have 12-13k miles on mine and it all started after my frst dealer service. It would stall all the time. It has gottem progressively better but still happens. Dont know wht to do next except ride it. Jim
  11. Just checking over my 00 - V11 Sport after it stalled on me twice at stop lights. This has been an ongoing issue with the bike. Removed the cannisters, have a PC3 etc... Anyway I noticed the the right air filter pod (I think that is what you call them) is pointing down towards the right cyclender. The left pod almost horizontal pointing to the front of the bike to catch air. Could this downward facing pod, suck up up very hot air from the cyclender at stop and cause the bike to stall? Are the pods supposed to be facing a certain direction? Jim
  12. I have a set of Bridgestone 010 on my front and a 020 at the rear. Need a new front tire. Any suggestions?? Im not racing the bike but would appreciate good all around handling. Thanks, Jim

  14. Put a new battery in my 2000 - V11 Sport and now the tach works again. What did I do? Usually its the other way around. Add something and something else breaks. Jim

    Lemon Law?

    Buck- Another thing. When I had the Guzzi-Q last summer, there were 2-3 guys with new LeMans and all had vapor lock issues to some degree. Im wondering if the fairings on those bikes are blocking air from cooling that would aid vapor and/or the fact that the faring may keep the heat from escaping when you stop??? I have a V11 Sport (Naked) and I know that bike creates a heck of alot of heat but its able to escape. Just a thought. Jim

    Buck- I certainly can understand your issues - this is perfect riding weather and nothing worse than having to sit it out. I hope you are able to work things out with Guzzi. If not, you might want to ping my friend Jeff in Ohio. We removed all the emissions crap and added a Power Commander and I have never had a problem since. He might be able to give you some insight on what he did - Im not that technical. E-Mail me your address and I can forward Jeff's. You are a valued member of this little group of Guzzi riders and I would hate for you to leave us. Thanks, Jim

    Buck- if you havent got rid of it yet - its too late!! Sorry to hear about your problems. The speedo thing is a drag but you can still ride the bike. The tank suck problems can be traced back to the cannisters, etc.... and will eventually be fixed by you or the dealer. You love the bike and just like anything else you feel passionate about (includes wives, girlfriends, kids, golf, etc....) you get over emotional when things go wrong. I know, I got stranded this weekend as well. Your bike will be perfect soon. It will take you across country and across the street. It will do it all the things that your Bimmer will do, but it will do it with soooo much more than can be explained in this forum that you will forever regret getting rid of it. I say work out the kinks and when that feeling of desperation crosses your path again- take that broken down, crappy fairing, broken speedo piece of Italian art around a couple of those curves you have down there and all will be forgotten.   20. My tach went again (2nd time - first at 461 miles) at 12k miles. Does Guzzi have a real fix for this yet? BTW - 2000 V11 Sport.
  21. We it looks like I overloaded my battery w/Gerbing gear. Charged it up yesterday and it started right up like nothing happened. Its nice to know the real reason for this issues and I will take better care next time. I had the jacket/gloves on full heat. The next question - does it make sense to get a new battery if the alternator sucks?? Oh well, warm weather is near so I can put the Gerbing stuff away. If I do get a battery, anybody have a line on inexpensive batteries. Im sure that Guzzi charges an arm and a leg for them. Thanks, Jim
  22. Once bitten - twice shy they say. Well this is the second time this has happened. Took the bike out yesterday and about 2-3 miles from home it started to sputter and jerk. I was able to pull off into a small park and she died. After I gave her a good talking to I jumped on and turned the key to start and nothing- no lights, no fuel injectors, nothing. Took the seat off and pressed and moved the relays around and nothing. Removed the last relay and replaced it with a spare and I got the dash lights to come on and the fuel injector strarted but when I hit the start switch it made this horrible sound much a toy "Tommy Gun". This sucks but it ran fine for 4 hours when I had it out on Sat. Started right up on Sunday morning. This happened before and when I got the bike back I plugged it into the battery tender and it started the next day. Since it is cold, I had my Gerbings jacket and gloves on for both rides. Could I have drained the battery using these. I did not recharge the bike on Sat night and as of today - its still not fully charged which is unusual. Im probably going to replace the battery (any suggestions) and keep an eye on it. The battery always seemed to need charging even in the summer. Any suggestions that I should be looking at? BTW, I did replace all the relays with Boush over a year ago. Jim PS - This bike still rocks, most fun you can have on two wheels.
  23. I have the Guzzi stand and it does work. I have a funny story about my experience getting the bike up by myself. When I finnally got the bike halfway up, I pushed hard on the handle to get it to the floor. As luck would have it the handle came slamming down on the toes of my shoe. As luck would have it I was able to pull my toes in before the handle smashed them. So here I am, trapped by the stand and nobody home to help me. I was in a ackward position so I didnt have complete control of the bike and everytime I tried to raise it - it would start tipping away from me. So here I am in a hot garage - trapped by my toe holding onto this heavy bike. About 45 mins latter my neighbor who was cutting his grass came over and helped me out. Talk about feeling like an idiot!!! Anyway, for one man operation, its hard to beat the LA Chock. I use it on all my bikes and its as simple as you can make it. Jim
  24. I had my oil & filter changed less than 600 miles before I put the in for the winter. I want to drain my oil and replace with new w/o changing the filter. How much oil do I need to add? Thanks, Jim
