I may be able to make this as well if you all don't mind a non-sport tagging along. What time are people meeting at the Mangy Moose?
I'll probably freeze my @ss off riding over, but what the heck. I did some of the roads around Jackson and Placerville a month or so ago and they were great.

What's it like on a weekend, traffic wise?
Traffic???? Hah!
On a weekend you may see 3-4 cars in a 40 mile stretch vs. 1-2 on a weekday.
Seriously, traffic is one thing you don't have to worry about on this road. Kamikaze squirrels maybe, but not traffic.

I don't understand Hwy 1 being considered one of the best motorcylcle roads. Unless you get out there as the sun is coming up, chances are you'll just be spending all your time passing groups of cars. I haven't been on Angeles Crest Hwy in many years, but I suspect it is similar.
Best RV road, yes, but not motorcycle.

On my way home from Cayucos, I took this route from San Miguel North till it ended at 198. Hwy 25 is just across the street for the blast into Hollister. I saw 3 others out there in about 40 miles of road.
Definitely a good alternative to 101.

On my way to the Central Coast Rally, I took this road over the coastal mountains to hwy. 1. Here is my report. If you ever get the chance, don't miss it.
Go here and click on ride report. The other files listed are the full size pictures.
My route home was also great but don't have all the pics back yet. I'll save that one for another time.
Coast Hwy 1 over to Bakersfield!

It's all about priorities. First it was shocks (I love the Wilbers), then it was a pair of Mistral muffs, and just recently a PC3. So you see, heated clothing took a backseat to performance. Better gear is next.
According to the weather forecast it should be a great day after the sun comes up. It's the riding between 6 and 7 AM that I'm worried about. I'll just add a layer or two.
The wife is off to see her Mom for the weekend, so I should be hitting the moose around 8.
