  1. Whoa, hang on there GuzziMoto - you seem to be gittin' a little pissed off about having the normal

garden variety. And there ain't much wrong with that! I was about to buy one myself - until I came

    across the Scura R.

My heart instantly fell for its looks but my head calculated how much adding Ohlin's might cost

somewhere down the road - and also, that it was the last of the V11's made which (it was rumoured)

had many of the previous hiccups wrinkled out - and also, Luigi or Franco etc., was taking a little

more care in assembling it under Aprilia's improved working practices...

And also, I'm a 'lil tart who just loves shiny black paint with a red-back spider stripe and a red

seat and gold shocks and only a handful were made and, and... any other excuse will do. :bbblll:

While I understand the reasoning to buy a Scura [to avoid the early "niggly's] , I'm sure you are aware that the Scura, Tenni, and other series were issued [some say cursed] with the single plate clutch system, which, unlike the easy retrofit of upgraded relays on the 1st series V11's, the potentially destructive consequences of the underdesigned "single plater's" is something nobody should ignore.

Again, not defending the 1st series, but trumping Aprilia's improved working practices is a bit of a laugher! Ohlins suspension, ok, I'll give you that one, but I think the biggest improvement in handling from the factory was the extension of the wheelbase and angle of the headstock in early '02. And of course, the visual appearance of these things is always a personal thing, one man's "Suzuki Madura" is another man's " MV Agusta 850". I think my favourite looking Spine frame post 1100Sport Guzzi is the Rosso Corsa followed closely by the classic red framed green V11, then the Tenni, but in the interest of single clutch avoidance, it's got to be the Corsa.

  2. Happened to notice that we all have our own little sub group-hug areas,,,,,,Scura, Tenni, Rosso Corsa, etc,,,,,. What about the original machine that spawned off all these sub-models???

  3. went for my annual winter solstice ride after work tonight. a ways into the 100 mi. ride the glass on the tach starts fogging up. still quite readable, but inside pretty foggy. not raining, but damp air, about 42 degrees F.

went into the garage 10 min. after parking the bike, check on tach, it's clear again, no fog.

anybody have this problem? maybe a vent clogged? maybe just a solstice thing?

    cheers, stef

I consider this part of the Moto Guzzi's 'quaint character'. I eliminated mine fogging quite by accident when I installed a Givi mini fairing on the bike.

  4. a fellow forum member got me onto this bike

    http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/mcy/2047737701.html

its got an updated ECU and warranty on that, ducati design upgraded headlight 12,650 miles and the big service done recently with new belts

cons needs an oil change, needs new tires in a few thousand, will probably need a new chain at th at time also, has a salvage title and is plated to south dakota he says I don't need to worry about inspections as its already licensed but I am not totally sure on the process the bike was knocked over upon transport to him when he purchased it and the cracked fairing plus dented tank and muffler sent the bill well over the value threshold so the damage is cosmetic, the levers are bent a little and are annoying so would need to get some pazzo's or similar oh and those mirrors he put on are terribly ugly and don't fit the bike those would have to go.

I got him down to 2700 but yet I'm not totally sure this is the best idea, have always wanted a Ducati and there isn't a cheaper easier to maintain version to be had. Might be worth buying and getting basic liability insurance to just ride the wheels off of it and sell it for parts when I upgrade. Thoughts, ideas?

Be very aware that this particular model, for some reason, is hard on swingarm bearings. Also be aware that the swingarm rotates in the back of the engine block. I know of two that had wornout to such a degree that emergency surgury had to be pe3rformed with JB weld, and a quick reduced cost sale!!!!

  5. Well, if you're in the market for a relatively inexpensive Griso, there's this one

    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608091

    and this one

    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=618954&highlight=griso

I have no interests in either of these. I just browse forums and saw them.

umm, WOW, thats a lot cheaper than I expected. I REALLY like the first one I might have to talk to my credit union, probably won't happen right now but next fall I bet I could get one of these even less than the super dukes and sexier, still want to get a KLR seems like the rat bike to own.

    Shouldn't be a problem:

  6. Greg, hope this means bigger and better things for you.

For me, I'm not so sure my "local Moto Guzzi dealer" is still in Seattle, Washington.

Moto International is still THE Guzzi dealer on the west coast of North America. Dave Richardson is a great guy, well respected, and his knowledge of Moto Guzzi earns respect all the way back to the factory.

  7. Craigslist, buy a lite brite piece of shite for 3-4k and get your scooter fix. Marvel at a machine that costs next to nothing and only ever needs tyres and oil changes. Everyone should have a thrasher that doesnt need a bath or has to be worried over when it leaves your sight. Consider the next "special machine" from the saddle of the cheap one. It does do wonders for perspective and down the line when you do have that dream machine and it has an issue- you probably will still have old faithful to take you into the wind. I use an SV650 for this purpose and it works a charm. Ever seen the motorcycle rating show? Top 10 bikes, they went through all the exotica and number 1 position was snared by a Honda 150, cause it had sold the most units about the planet and could be tossed off a 4 storey building then ridden away. That is the Japanese concept of value and somedays ya just have to agree! :2c:

    Glad your ok.FN-Broken.jpg

Not to get all fussy, but it was the Honda Cub rated best bike ever. The one tested was a late model 90 Passport, same bike generally.

I can vouch for the durability and reliability of the little Hondas. I owned a 1965 S65 [sport], which to this date, still has it's original Honda/NGK spark plug, points, everything. It has 25000 miles, starts with a 1/2 stroke of the kicker, with your hand!!!, will do an honest 40mph, and gets around 150 mpg. Mr. Honda was a genuis.

  8. sold my V11 almost 2 months ago and I'm an R-tard for that move

    totaled my RSVR last sunday

I am now bikeless for the first time in a decade and I'll be 30 in a month

went for a ride made it 2 blocks from my house they put in new temp lights for the construction and the turn arrow isn't quite facing the right direction nor does it have a shroud on it and I got distracted then noticed the turn arrow which I thought was mine its literally adjacent to my green lite on the right side, it wasn't my greeen and I got the bike ripped out from under me and spun into the next lane, forks and rim are bent, brakes are not functioning, damper exploded, tail got miffed, upper fairing trashed, sliders did their job though the side fairings are perfect but now I see antifreeze some how got splashed on the right hand side so that is cracked and when I restarted it the bike ran really rough then smoothed out but was smoking a lot the whole time I had it running sooooo shit is not good. I didn't get hurt save for a bruise on my right leg I had my feet down and was able to kind of let the bike go I almost made it back out of the intersection when I realized I was in the wrong as he hit on front half of the tire. I didn't get a ticket and the police officer noted the lights are all messed up and was just glad I was ok.

pissing me off I changed the oil the day before with weight in gold Agip, lubed the chain and I got the tires 2 months ago with 1k on them so far. At least I'm not hurt I've heard it a lot but I can't stop thinking about the bike F me, in my mind I'd almost rather I'd gotten hurt and not the bike, I know that doesn't make sense but she is my baby. To go with that if it does get totaled I have red drings, red frame plugs, a fancy 1/4 turn billet fuel cap, red mpl clutch slave, rhinomoto axle sliders and bar end sliders(one just needs a new plastic end) maybe I can get my gilles chain adjusters off it also oh and I still have my af1 linkage plates I never installed. will have to unload all that stuff to take the sting out of my deductible of 1k.

My RSVR which I loved like a 4th child is totaled now comes the even harder part, what do I do? do I try and get a replacement 07.5+ RSVR, should I get a tuono either octoberfest flag colors or white/silver Should I look for a gen1 milleR(love that bike) or branch way out and get a KTM super duke or SMT(don't think I can afford that one at this time) or a BMW 1200C or a Victory V92C or a harley street bob, or a honda valkyrie, or a bmw 1150rt or a 1200gs, or possibly a Guzzi breva or griso(miss my V11 a lot now that I sold 2 months ago) the problem is I bet I won't be able to afford anything over 10k at this time and I like and would like to own any on of those bikes I have motorcycle ADD and the RSVR fulfilled all my riding pleasures but I'll be turning 30 next month and my career is tied to my commerical license so I always said I won't be getting another full on sport bike again but that RSVR was just so good in every way but KTM calls to me, BMW has many upsides, victory and harley make sense for getting on in years and needing to avoid speeding tickets the valkyrie is just a bad ass hooligan cruiser does anyone have any ideas, pros or cons or a bike if you could would like to jump on, I know I know I'd love a MV Agusta I'm not going to lie but the type of riding I do it would melt my legs off and just be a PITA to own. I also feel Ducati makes mechanics out of the poor and poor out of the rich so that is right out. I'm 6'2" 210lbs so keep in mind I might need some leg room and I hate heat blast generally drive like an old man but still like to roll on for a blast when the roads are right.

My front runners are a griso, tuono and the super duke. Problem is guzzi and tuono don't have any dealers in my area at all KTM has one and they're pretty good and another in mankato next to a guzzi dealer but thats almost 2 hours away

Ideally I'd like a KTM SMT but its brand new this year and 12k probably out of my price range now I know thats what I paid for my RSVR but that was 3 years ago I was doing better with less bills then.

    Glad you're not badly hurt.

You live in Minnesota right?? Lots of,,,,,,,straight ass boring roads???? Heck, I'd get a dual sport bike, spice up your riding a bit, I mean alot, go find cool gravel roads. Can't beat a BMW GS, seriously. There's a reason they're the best selling big adventure bike,,,,,,for 30 yrs!!!

  9. I've got one of these lifts. I had my old GS on it, was working on the front wheel, when it decided it wanted to tip forward. I stopped it, but my finger got caught in the spokes, broke my finger and ripped my fingernail off. NEVER USE IT AGAIN!!!

Bought one of these,,,,,, http://kendonusa.com/lift.htm best money I ever spent in the garage.

  10. As an officer in the VME, I can tell you, "Don't worry about it. Ride what you like, behave yourself, and enjoy the event."

Your fellow Canadians always behave themselves and make a good showing. George Dockray's green cafe bike won the People's Choice Award in the bike show. Thanks for joining us. If you ever want to come down the night before, I can probably hook you up with a free place to saty.

I've been riding down to the TT since the mid 90's. Always used to camp at the Sportsman's Club, tent over at the gun range with 10-15 buddies from the Vancouver British Bike Club. Forget which year, but ultimately it was one or more of us Canadians that, during the annual tire smoke out show over by the bbq area, one of us rode their Norton into that skanky old pond, then decided it might be nice to continue going for a swim. Used to be quite a show, and miss the gong show Saturday nite. Blame us crazy Cdns for banning camping @ the location.

Known George for years, rode up with us to the Laverda Rally this yr. He puts together the Italian Bike nite the last Tuesday of each month @ Cafe Calabria in Vancouver, up to 30 bikes in the summer. Great guy, knows his Italia, great commercial pilot, been around the world.

  11. Another late summer bike event passes, the Isle of Vashon TT. For those not living in the North American North West, this is a Greater Seattle event, geared towards the classic/vintage/antique bike scene, the main event of the year for the Seattle based VME [Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts] club. Riders from as far south as Portland, Oregon, as far north as Vancouver, British Columbia.

Anyways, I try to head down every year, about 130 miles one way. I get up around 5:00am, hit the border by 6:00, and make the Vashon ferry crossing by 8:30. This year took down my 20 yr old GS, maybe not a true classic, but is approaching the age, where it is now warmly welcomed amongst most of the event. I've taken my Nortons a few times, the RC30 Honda as well, and the 400-4 SS Honda, all classic bikes now, not just of age, but with general standing as collectable machines of merit.

I've held off taking my V11 Sport, too new I've told myself. I've always cursed under my breath, the guys showing up on modern crotch rockets, or new Harley Davidsons. I mean crap, there's got to be some Harley rally these guys can go to rather than an old bike event. Just go away you idiots!!!

So, about the late Spine Frames??? 1999-2005. I spotted at least one 2002 red/grey Lemans, one red framed green V11 Sport, and a couple more 2003+ Sports within the assemblage this year. 5 years ago, I'd have questioned these things showing up. But they were made in fairly small numbers by other manufacturers numbers, and with the red framed Sports, are around 10 yrs old now.

So, when will it not be in 'bad form' to show up at a 'classic' event on a V11 Sport????

  12. Did you notice that "liberal left wing radical commie b*stard" Dlaing hasn't been around for a while too? I think he misses RH.

I must say that the exchanges between those two was some of the most entertaining reading on the internet! You could probably write a book with that material.

The 'global warming' thread was like nothing I've ever seen on any online forum. I often wondered how much time he spent typing out endless paragraghs of information, or he was good at copy/paste.

It wasn't that I disagreed with his point of view, it was his most distastefull arrogance that made me shake my head, especially his self imposed expert status in suspension setup, and his utter discontent to anyone who dare question either his views on the matter or the arrogant manner in which he 'poopooed' anyone else as knuckle dragging mouth breathers if they did not want to bother spending hours typing out responses to his diatribe. Clearly he is in an occupation that gives him the feeling of a 'higher purpose person' status in his mind, a particularly unappealing trait for anyone.

I do miss his entries, strangely,,,,entertainment comes in strange and different ways.

    .

[ I'm 6'3", and will tell you that you will have issues with the footpeg location. I could not deal with it on my then new '01 V11, the green one. Moto Evoluzione used to sell a cheap little relocation kit [basically a series of long bolts and a bushing for the brake lever] which basically stopped my from selling the bike, it's way better now. I've since purchased the MPH handlbar kit, needed on the pre: '02 V11's with the lower clip ons, a great kit, except that it needs, and does not come with an extended throttle cable.

I can confirm that Yamaha of Chilliwack has an '02, burgundy, higher bars. It's rubber tank cover, or whatever that thing is called, has been damaged, not sure what that thing is worth. It also has factory carbon fibre parts that have, of course, deteriorated, and look like shite. It's been there at least 1/2 yr, so maybe a lowball offer will get it.

    Steve

Motobits in Washington state sells a relocation kit that puts the footpegs 1" forward and 1" down. I have them on my Cafe and they're more comfy than stock.

The 1" drop is good, but to have the footpegs brought forward 1", instead of rearward 1" would defintely not work for me.

    .

Hello Folks. I am new to the Moto Guzzi site but have loved the V11 since I first saw it on me and my GFs year anniversary. I saw it and new right away....I had to have one. So a Year later and I am close to getting one. I am from Vancouver, B.C. and what I like most about the V11 Sport is I have only ever seen the 1 on the streets.

So, What should I know about buying one? Maybe you guys could help. Im 6.4. Am I too tall, will I look funny on it? There are absolutely none in my area and cant take one for a test ride.

I like it naked, no faring anywhere. Is it easy to convert from that small windscreen to no windscreen and just the light? Is it a different light assembly itself? I see few bikes available that are exactly what I like, but that wouldn't stop me from buying one if I could easily take it off.

Any help would be great, ma even a few leads.

Thats a pretty good replica. Just make it my own custom beast once I get my hands on it.

  13. Subforums usually are counterproductive. Regardless whether you look at it under the aspect of "part of social network" things, lost information because posted in the wrong forum, or simply unnecessary internal rivalry.

Take BFG's CARC problems. In fact they were nothing else but Guzzi problems. So why not posting them under one of the standard categories?

It's the same with "Old Guzzi" topics. No other subforum please.

    Hubert

I'm coming in very late on this topic, but I fully agree with Hubert about subfora: They detract, rather than add.

I'll take the opposing view on this one. ADV Rider is one site with many sub forums, and works very well. Up to 7000 people on the forum at a time.

  14. I'm reading all the threads on my issue, and am quite thankfull that there is such a wealth of technical knowledge about these bikes. Really!!

Just to let you know, I have less than 1000kms on a new fuel filter,,,,and yes, I pulled my airbox off today to check for mouse nests. And I checked the valve clearances, they are still set to the loose European clearances I've used since 2002.

My next step is to take my bike over to my buddy who has much technical hardware to check TPS settings, and the knowledge to use it on anything,,,he just did his MV Agusta complete service, valve shims, TPS,,,a mandatory thing as MV Agustas are not available in Canada.

I have a confession to make, the last time this bike had the TPS looked at was in 2001 during it's first check up at the dealer. I know, you guys can give me crap now.

  15. So with the new season, I find that my V11 has now aquired an idle of less than 1000rpm, in fact, at times, it wants to hover around 800rpm, in other words, barely running. I actually prefer it around 1150-1200, so I've been pulling the high idle lever back [that choke thing]. I would rather not have it this way.

So I've looked at the idle stop, appears to be some kind of grub screw stopper. If I just turn this thing in a bit, will this cause issue with the TBS?

    Steve

  16. I just had the same problem - went straight to the electric petcock and voila - both wires fell off in my hands! It's quite a simple job to solder them back on - the chrome cap on the bottom of the valve slides off, leaving plenty of access to the solder connections to the coil. Slid the cap back on, applied a little epoxy into the well around the wires and stuck the tank back on. Fired right up and runs great.

This forum just saved me hours of head-scratching - thanks for the help. My next step is to hit the donate button.....

    Well done!!
