  1. I saw this on Ebay too and it is only 10 miles from me. I think though that it has taken too much of a thump for my fat fingers to bring it back to life. Will leave it to those who know better and have more money than me. Would look nice in the lounge though !

Yep - you have to wonder why its not been fixed, its looks like its been stored in a well equiped workshop, so would guess the owner is quite handy with the spanners.

Good luck to any new owner!

  2. Andrew,

Hope your'e going to get the tools out soon. I'm sure it will all go back together again no problem. If you need any help give me a call.

One tip from me when I had the swing arm out, is to suspend the bike from a set of step ladders (a sturdy set of course) and use tie down staps to elevate it. I then slipped in some wood blocks under the sump and carefully shared the load between step ladders and wood block.

Hope to see soon at a kent Guzzi meet?

  3. I gave up on plastic.

'Tis a thing of beauty & a joy forever, but I'd want mine to retain the stock "aero" flush mount gas cap setup. Powder coated black to match the rest of the bike [& save my vision on sunny days! B) ] & it certainly would seem to be a solid solution to the fuel-stretch issue w/ the plastic nylon tank! What did that beauty run you?

Approx $950 US delivered from The Tank Shop. :D

  4. Hi all

Got the Rosso outa the shed yesterday, first time in 18mths its been used!

Took for MOT,no probs there, was great to be on it again after only using my Calli for past year..felt soo fast lol!

However,I have now noticed a small paint blister on the tank, grrr.low down at front of tank so not too noticable..

Wondering if anything to do with this ethanol issue, my tank has swollen a little too, opened up at the front and touches forks when on full lock now....(only just tho) no issues for mot, dnt think he noticed!

Does piss me off tho.....spend £8500 on a new bike....and government changes fuel specs so it effects your tank...its not good.....grrrr......grrrr. They gonna buy me a new tank? doubt it....an of course any new tank is gonna be just the same as will be old stock.....grrrr

Spose I oughta go tax it but maybe I wont and tell emm I put tax money towards a new tank? hmmm wonder if that stand up in court!

Happy Biking, a very very angry Rossoandy!!

(anyone in Kent UK fancy a ride out sometime? )

  5. Since posting a couple of months ago, I've left the tank empty and vented (fuel cap open). Yesterday I was able to remount the tank, it was still a tight fit, but much better. lost some paint in the process...

So they do shrink a bit.

Its now bolted down, with the hope I can force the tank to return to the correct position/shape.

I will keep the minimum quantity of fuel in it for the future.

  6. I've heard of this being done (on plastic Ducati tanks?) to prevent the tank from absorbing EtOH and swelling. Apparently, left dry, tanks will shrink back to their original size after a few weeks and can be coated. I was planning to do this over the winter, but now ???

I would use the product again, but I would do everything possible to texture the tank prior to coating. As for how it will hold up overtime, I will find out. I did use the entire contents of the kit as prescribed for larger tanks. It looks as though the areas that have a thicker coating have no lifting. Makes me think that a bit more would have helped.

    Dave,

A year or so hass passed since last post any news on the success of the tank sealer??

  7. My petrol tank had been off the bike for a couple of months while I did some other works. Now the tank won't refit, it has increased in width and length, by 1/4 inch, so the forks now touch on full lock, and I can't get rear mounting bolt through hole.

A quick search of internet and I discover its down to the petrol and is common to many other plactic tanks on Ducati's, KTM's Harley, BMW etc,

And the swelling will reduce if tank left dry and venting for a few weeks - is this right????

What options do we have, an alloy custom made tank seems an expensive (and long wait), any one have one thats a replica of original??

  8. I have been touching up the red frame on the V11, with:

    Halfords Tool box red

and I can honestly say it is an absolutely perfect colour match. I'm really pleased with it. I used a touch up stick that as well as a small brush has a needle application for use on tiny chips.

Of course this brilliant colour match is more useful for us in the UK able to shop at Halfords, but tool box red is quite universal, if not a glamourous paint name, I'd have like ferrari rosso red or similar, but no tool box red is the match.

If only I could get a perfect colour match for the silver engine!

Thanks for advice, I decided to get a proper job done, with some inserts welded in. The swing arm is off the bike any way for re-painting.

Is that 'repainting because getting the bearings out makes a right mess of the paintwork when you heat it' by any chance?.

I had to grind the screw heads off to get the hugger off: drilling out just rotated the inserts even more and you can't get behind the inserts to hold them in place until you've removed the hugger.

I've ordered some new inserts off Wendel and when I get them, will spot braze them in place so they don't rotate. I'm getting the swingarm recoated anyway (for aforementioned reasons)

    AndyH

Repainting will be done by hammerite smooth black, as the swing arm bearing are fine, I have no desire to remove them! as most of the swing arm can't be seen, I think hammerite will be ok.

  10. It may be like a 'Rivnut', these are put in a bit like a pop rivet with a threaded mandrel instead of the break stem. Pulled up with similar pliers then the mandrel is unthreaded. They rely on the resistance of the pull-up to stop them spinning, more exotic types have a lug or even a fine spline to stop them spinning.

You can sometimes fix them by running a nut and washer up a six inch piece of threaded bar to suit the insert, bend the bar above the nut by 90 degrees. Try and dibble loctite around the insert NOT IN THE THREAD, then screw the threaded bar into the insert, grease the threaded bar just above the insert but try not to contaminate the Loctited area. You then hold the bent bit of threaded bar and tighten the nut down onto the washer and insert - if you are lucky this should reset the insert. Leave overnight to ensure the Loctite sets, as I am sure you know the Loctite sets where there is NO air so may still be sticky on the surface. How tight to do the nut? We used to say 'up until it snaps then back off half a turn'. Seriously, you should feel the torque suddenly increase once the insert is set.Immediately unscrew the threaded bar incase the loctite has got onto it.

Good luck, I would send some of ours but the Titanic sailed from here.

  11. I struggled to remove the hugger, what is obviously a very simple job was made quite difficult by rubbish captive screw / nuts. I had to drill out all but one as they just rotated around.

Any suggestions for a repair, what type of nut was used in the first place?????

I'll probably have to take to an engineering shop to have some sort of threaded insert put in.

  12. tried using paint stripper to remove paint on rear bevel box,but it had no effect !!!

I know paint stripper is not as powerful as it once was due to a ban on a key ingredient.

I don't want to have it blasted, as i just want to touch it up, any ideas what will work?

  13. I'm considering a Hagon replacemnt, they are only a few miles from my work place in east London. I would like the remote adjuster, which is not listed but will visit them to have it added, they need convincing that theres space on the V11 for it (even though it is standard on the bike)

Is your hagon an improvement over the sach original?
