And for giggles, while doing other maintenance on my ST3 yesterday, I installed green vents as a tip-of-the-hat to Benelli's silver and green bikes. Sort of like Docc's zinc-chromate green as tribute to Guzzi's colors as applied by Carcano.

Nice one scudd, but I'm not sure about the green vents. Up there with Chucks red fork gators I think. The Ducati gods may take revenge on you:)

    Ciao

Hmm... perhaps I have angered the duck-gods. She gave me a crank-but-no-start right after this. Hopefully fixable this weekend, parts have been delivered. I'm not "sure" about the green vents either. But it's just a wrap that I could remove easily if I want to. Plus, I think it's a better idea than buying a Benelli Tornado.

As for geniuses... they don't always dress well.  :oldgit:

Hey Scud...looks like the honeymoon is over :mg:

J/k, it most certainly is a simple fix.  I would be more than thrilled to have an ST3 in my garage too

  2. I have yet to see the burgundy/purple tank in person.  How would you describe it?  Seems like the interesting V11 colors look very different in real life.  The previous owner swapped out the purple tank on my bike for a silver one.  Kinda wish I had the purple tank.

Btw, the silver forks look really nice on the black frame/engine bike.  I might have to do this mod since I have a set.

  3.

Awful lot of sensitivity about color around here.  :P:

In more seriousness, I have never seen a black one other than the later Scuras, etc—and I see a lot of bikes of all types due to the stuff I do. And we do know rough numbers for some editions. I'm just not a person who defines myself by the color or brand of my motorcycles.

I think it's all playful, sort of an inside-joke, and nobody takes the paint-color identity seriously. Though I will say that my Greenie tends to draw more looks than most bikes I've had. It's such a bold and unusual color - one of those love it or hate designs.

My Greenie also would get lots of looks - thinking about trying out the green tank on my 03 Sport, everything else is grey and carbon fiber.  Might  be nice to switch it up from the Silver tank that came on it.  Will post pics for opinions when I swap them.

  4. Right!

Thanks for all your help, will keep this thread updated as I get this completed.

6k for a tune seems to be right where I am at.

I think the pre owner was done riding this one and didn't want to spend more money getting a tune done.  He had a pretty nice stable and he said it was time for this one to go.

More than happy to have regardless of the state of tune, the built motor feels worlds different than my stock Greenie.  Was really looking for a Cafe Sport, but I feel I ended up with the right one and it will be fun to get a little more in touch and do the tune myself.

  5. Gonna go with the tune-up regardless.  I am not sure the last time it was done.

I'm keeping the PC, it was dyno tuned after all the internal work and came with a custom map.  Seems foolish to do it all over again.

The previous owner was a great guy, but I don't know what maintenance he did and it is possible it hasn't been done since the bike was last put together by Moto International.    I think it has only had 5k or so on it since.

How long does it usually take to notice the bike needs a tune/sync.

  6. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I am well trained wrencher, former Coast Guard mechanic, I think I got this.

Just need to find the right carb tuner, there seems to be much debate on the interweb forums.

    Imagine that!  Hahaha

  7. It is minor, but definitely there.  I am going to check the boots first.

How difficult is the throttle body sync?  Do I need to do a full sync or just adjust the tps correctly?

    Thanks all

  8. Thanks guys!

I bet I have a cracked rubber intake boot.

One of them popped off a few weeks back, I went to up the bike and it ran like crap.  Shaking all over the place, I bet I damaged it putting it back on.

Will have to check if the spare ones are any good still.

The relays are all GEI if I remember correctly, not quite as good as OMRON versions but they should suffice.

  9. Hi Gents,

I recently picked up another V11 and after a couple of months I just noticed that it is surging a little at highway speeds.  Has a PC3 and custom tune, but don't think that would make a difference.

This might be happening at lower speeds too but I haven't noticed it.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks all!

  10. There are almost always one or two V11s on Craigslist in the Bay Area—three right now. This one is one of them, but is actually in Santa Barbara. It caught my eye because it has the same valve covers as my bike.

    2000, silver, 32,000 miles, $4,995.

Definitely always 1-3 around here, however, I have noticed then tend to have high miles or have been down.

That one in SB is especially nice since it as Ohlins front and back.  This one might have been down too though, missing paint on the tank...in just the right spot

  11. I was really surprised at how flimsy the black frame tail is compared to the one on my Greenie.  The old one has some road rash on it, I would think the newer ABS version would have broke into many pieces upon a crash or even just a fall.
