  2. Hi pic attached - looking at it it seems mine is at the roughly 11 o'clock location which seems most usual perhaps there is another issue with my gearbox - I'll find out soon I guess worth considering though as it's a total pain to disassemble the rear end to fix cheers Sean
  3. Hi mine was behind the seat latch - i'll post a picture later today if I get the time if not later in week - as swing arm is off its location should be quite clear cheers Sean
  4. Hi all thanks for all advice & tips when I was trying to replace the bolt that holds the gearbox earth strap last year just an update that members might want to consider to recap: last year I was trying to sort an electrical problem and started by looking at the earth I removed gearbox earth bolt to clean up contacts but could not relocate it in its retaining thread Thanks for all help and sympathy. To resolve this I thought I would need to remove the gearbox casing as I couldn't know what was misplaced within the gearbox and had dropped in front of the thread I removed wheel / pork chops etc to get swinging arm out - as there was a fair amount of corrosion this has taken months - all bolts resisted turning. With swinging arm out I thought I would try and replace bolt With more access room I managed to use a number of progressively larger 'podgers' - cable tie, then wire, then screw drivers and managed to pry up the obstruction and eventually replace bolt as it should be. As I can't be sure that what was misplaced in the gearbox I will run the bike and check all gears are functioning and no chance of seizing before reassembling the rear end - which will be repainted and cleaned up. My warning is - if you just want to clean up earth point to the gearbox undo bolt a few turns to get in a small wire brush to clean up the contact area and then replace - the issue may just be something to do with a fault in my bike - although everything was working fine in the gearbox prior to taking bolt out, but it's a lot of hassle if you are just cleaning up the earth contact thanks for a great site - see you on the road soon - if you're in Europe anyway Sean
  5. Thanks for that - must say would be great if that was the case and with my track record more than possible - i'll look over all that i removed tomorrow in the light and see if there's another bolt
  6. thanks Czakky - will try tomorrow morning - yes not looking forward to dismantling gearbox to sort out anything serious - read your thread on electrical gremlins yesterday - would make a great epic novel - I think I have all that to come - thought cleaning earth was the easy bit - I'll let you know what problem was when / if sorted. Oddly the bolt came out with a smear of engine oil on its threads and is in good condition - just can't see how the hole could be blocked time will tell I guess - thanks for your time
  7. Hi thanks for swift reply - wish my bike was as clean as yours - yes bolted to back of gearbox and not behind actual seat lock - My thought initially was broken bolt but it has a machined end to it with screw thread intact and is just under 2" long
  8. Hi Guys I have a 2000 V11 sport and have been having electrical problems - after following lots of similar sounding issues already covered in the forum I thought the best thing to do 1st was check earthing contact to gearbox behind seat release lock. This didn't look too bad but I thought I would remove bolt and really clean up contact. The bolt came out ok and I cleaned the gearbox casing and earth strap contact and tried to re insert bolt - which would not engage with the screw thread in the casing. After a frustrating hour and cleaning up the bolt thread I measured the depth of the bolt hole with a very thin screw driver and with much prodding and poking could only insert this about half the length of the bolt. I have checked all other bolts in gearbox / engine casing - nothing moved to cause misalignment now v frustrated and without decent earth can't start any diagnostics - not that I am going to be very good at that either - any ideas - I am a little stumped thanks Sean
