Metal Tank

Recommended Posts

Recent threads on Zagato Guzzi have placed a bug up my bottom to try a winter project converting a T-3 (or other) to a Cafe bike. Have searched here and elsewhere but haven't found many options for metal tank and seat (outside Tank Shop which has a limited web site). I recall seeing a builder in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon/Southern Washington), but can't find the link again. Any recollections or other candidates?

MG cycle has alum and steel tanks on their site. The alloy tanks might be from the tank shop.

Board member WitchCityBallabio is just finishing a tonti cafe project. I met him a few weeks ago and he told me where he got his tank, but I don't remember the source :homer: . I'm pretty sure it wasn't the tank shop. If he doesn't see this post you could PM him to see where it came from. His bike is at the end of this thread: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11859

I hope he posts some pictures here when it's done.

I got my tank through MG Cycle, but they get it from HT Moto in Germany I think. A little less money than the Tank Shop and you can actually get one. I've seen a Tank Shop tank in person and it was beautiful. The welds on the Tank Shop tank are definitely better/neater.

It wasn't an issue to me as I'm painting the tank and it was body worked to make it smooth, but if you are going to leave it polished, it's worth knowing about it. For what it's worth though, the welds are pretty far under the tank and it's very hard to see them.

Thanks all. I'm mulling startpoint (later model Bassa or Jackal, vs an older bike eg T-3) considering the purpose to which I would put such a bike. Particularly: what ratio of "wrench to ride" do I want to live with, do I go for roundfin beauty or the larger but uglier recent engine, and whether the ergonomics can be made livable without unduly compromising the aesthetics. All this is discussed elsewhere. Certainly seems possible to end up with a reliable and distinctive bike that is as comfortable as an '02+ V11 sport. WitchCityB and Guzzirider - I'm anxious to hear and see how your projects turn out!

Thanks much

Thanks Dave - your the man, and Evan was the guy. I'd love to see the two tanks side by side to make a fair comparison, but off the top - the german tanks are less than half his price (~$850 vs $1,800) at current exchange. A bit surprising. Don't know how VAT and shipping affect overall costs, but promised my wife this project would have a tight budget.

Hi,

you can takea look here: www.alu-tanks.de

Best regards

Fiedhelm from Germany

Could you tell us more about the tanks?

Price?

Fittings? (It would be nice to have a petcock on each side, in addition to the required fittings like pressure regulator and fuel level warning switch)

Do you have a tank model for both the pump in tank and pump outside of tank on V11 spine frames?

Capacity?

Pictures of one on a V11?

before you buy the tank you better decide which frame, later tonti frames like the EV etc are 3" longer from the swing arm pivot point back and the steering neck is a couple inches taller. I think the shorter frame looks better and handles better.

Does anyone know or have heard if there are many issues putting one of these tanks on? I read on the MGCycle site a quote "not for the meek". Sounds like there are fitting issues that need to be worked out? I love the look of these from the tank shop on our bike.
