I raced back in the early 80's ....... eastern Canada. I have been to track days a few time but went to a race school and when they had a 3 lap heat race I realized I still have the desire to race ........ started last and finished 3rd. I"ve not been brave enough to try again .... yet.

I haven't raced since uni days...back before income protection insurance was a consideration...I think my last race was on the mighty transalp

But we also played with buckets and even pw50's on gokart tracks

Yeah, that rg500 would pass me on the straights, take off into the distance then by the second last corner I'd pass him again. Scraping the transalp frame through the last corner I'd beat him across the line some of the time.... great fun.

That poor transalp had to do everything - 2up tours through the outback, road racing, even full on dirt riding ( in snow) . It had replaced a v50 so had to prove itself!

Not a racer, but a spannerman and occasional track user.... Last spannered for my son on his KR1s in 2008 in the Derby Phoenix F400 series. Happy days!

The KR1 was a rearaty over here, the earler KR often pops up tho, tho I believe parts are a issue.

Yeh, parts like power valves and linkages were a bit scarce even in 2008, but what a cracking little bike. 130kg and 60-odd ponies

  • 1 month later...

I raced here in the states. Started on an '83 Seca 400 (in '89, so it was already slow and outdated). Moved up to an FZR 400 (amazing bike). Then went twins racing as part of Gotham Racing in the early to mid 90's. We mainly raced air cooled Ducati 750's including a Harris aluminum frame bike we built from a Harris SOS chassis. Ran in regional club races, moved up to AHRMA and their national BOTT series in '94 and '95, then switched to a TZ250 for '96. Ran that in a mix of club races and nationals. Stopped racing seriously back in the early 2000's, but every now and then I take another swing at it. The last swing was racing Supermoto locally. That was great fun but I was never near as good in the dirt as I am on pavement.

Currently I am slowly building a roadracer out of an Aprilia RXV550.

We will see how long I take to get that done.

yeah its fun and stress releving... I spent the day at the track with our local CAMs (classic action MC) club, love the old shit... I was there to coach but as the turn out was poorish I just joined in the fun on a M600 horrid but fun V2's rule, and a FXR150 modified as a F4 bike, it was the bucket F4 F5 one hour race, I used to be able to do it but pulled the pin half way through... seems I drink more beer these day and aint up to it LOL
