Better Mileage

Recommended Posts

Here is several tests that I've done to get to this conclusion:

V11 modifications:

FBF Carbon pipes

Stucchi xover

K&N Pods

Power Commander

Valve adjustment:

at USA specs .002-.004 - two tanks full - 34 miles per gallon

at World specs .004 - .006 - three tanks full - 31 miles per gallon

at .006 - .008 - three tanks full - 38 miles per gallon

Seat of the pants conclusion:

The bike is much smoother at the .006 -.008 setting. The bike had cold start issues with the USA and World specs. The bike was also stalling when coming to a stop sign/light after a long ride. No longer having this issue with the .006 - .008 specs. My commute is 60 miles per day and the bike has 18000+ miles on it. It is much smoother and so much more fun to ride at this spec.

Have fun and ride safe.

Fascinating!

Not at all what I would predict.

I wonder if you might get even better mileage at the larger RaceCo spec?

Or doing different spec for intake and exhaust, like maybe Intake to US and Exhaust to RaceCo or vice versa???? But I would not dare run my exhaust at US spec....

Where is your PCIII map from?

Noise was not affected, I think (I ride with earplugs).

The .006 - .008 is the Raceco specs.

Valve adjustment is very simple - 45 minutes the last time that I adjusted her.

Try all of them and see for yourself.

Raceco is .20/25mm or .008 - .010"

I think I'll have to do some experimenting!

PCIII originally tuned by Orange County Motorsport but after adding the PODS and X-over, I had Todd E. emailed me a download close to my specs and the I fiddled with it a little.  The valve adjutments were tested after the PCIII adjustment.

Did you re-torque the heads as well or just set the tappets?
