Bridgestone BT020 Question...

Help me out here-- I'm just trying to buy a stock replacement Bridgestone BT020 for the front of my 2003 V11 Sport naked.

I went to order it at Motorcycel Accessory Warehouse, and they have all these tires in my size:

See the letter codes "B", "E", "NN", etc.? Those are OEM codes. Which one fits the Guzzi?

 

Any opinion here?

I would have to agree with the others who said there are much better tires out there than the BTO 20's. I just finished putting 100 miles on my new Michelin Pilot Powers and the improvement in comfort and handling will far outweigh the reduction in mileage. Try something else, and you wont be disappointed.

I have 020 on mine and quite like them.

Provided it is a 120/70ZR17 it will fit the rim and have the right speed rating. I would go for 04504 because it states "Tubeless". If you call them and ask if 01579 is suitable for tubeless fitment and they say it is go for that and save $30 over the dearest options.

nogbad, they are all tubeless. the ones with the extra n and so on behind then are tyres that have been made for first mounting on specfied bikes. Like a blackbird that has very high speed, and weight.

Ok, but I have always thought that provided the tyre is the correct size and speed rating and is the correct pairing for the rear there should be no problem. If it was me I would just go for the cheapest ZR option in this list.

 

I found Diablos let a lot of uncomfortable road vibration through when I had them on my SV650. Given the Guzzi suffers slightly from this with the 020, I would hesitate to put Diablos on it as they were much worse by comparison on the SV. I never found the limits of the 020. Maybe I'm a wuss.

The 020 might have decent traction, but the problem with that tire (as most here would agree) is that it gives terrible feedback. One can switch to almost any tire and feel an improvement via improved feedback. I switched to a BT014 and felt a significant improvement.

I know what you mean. With the Diablo you could feel everything the wheel was doing - the downside is that it is tiring to ride on poor surfaces for a long period with them. With the 020 you can't noticeably feel the roughness of the road. I think for sport or track riding the Diablo would be better, but as a distance tyre where you want comfort I take an 020 anytime.

 

The D208s on my Buell seem to be somewhere in between.

I know the "B" stands for BMW, like the R bikes, which require slightly different profile.

 

In any event, I wouldn't buy tires from MAW, they have closeout and overrun tires. you'll find them either a bit old or a bit out of balance; at least that was my experience with their tires. Better to pay the extra 20 bucks and get a fresh one.

Seconded. I haven't tried the BT014 but everything I've used has been an improvement over the 020s. I'm about to try the Diablos on the V11, I've been very happy with them on my Ducati.

I just got a pair of Diablos on my '02 LeMans and the difference is like night & day compared to the stock Bridgestones. The stock front tire had gotten all cupped and it felt horrible in the twisties. I would say that any sport tire is gonna feel better than the BT020.

I've just put some Diablos on mine too. I was amazed at the difference to the BT020s that were on before. The handling is so much more precise and responsive. Don't know what sort of mileage I'll get out of them tho'
