Corbin Gunfighter Seat

Anybody out there using the Corbin Gunfighter solo seat on their V11. How does it do for distance and what kind of hours and miles have you put on one. I currently have a Rich Maund seat but I don't think it and my hind quarters agree. It is great in the short run, 250 -300 miles but after that it start getting a little hard and I find myself taking more breaks which makes for a much longer day. The other option I've had suggested to me is one of the Air Hawk seat pads. Anybody use one of those. I'm planning a trip up to the Ontario Rally in two weeks and I will be coming home through Thunder Bay and Duluth MN. To do this in the time I have it is going to require multiple 500+ mile days. This would be nothing on my Concours but I have to approach this differently on the LeMans. Any ideas out these?

I have a Corbin.

I can go about twice as far on it as stock before reaching that same discomfort level.

My typical weekend ride is 200 miles.

If I was going ride successive 500mile days, I would consider adding sheepskin or an airhawk.

I tried a gel over-saddle but it was unstable.

I tried a gel insert in my stock saddle but it got too hot, I should have added a layer of neoprene rather than polyfill.

 

Here is my Pro and Con list for the Corbin.

Pros

Love the weather resistant leather.

Because is so firm it is easy to adjust position.

When sitted towards the rear the slope keeps the pressure off the perineum (taint)

Much better comfort range than OEM.

Looks good.

Pretty durable.

Cons

Because it is so firm and sloped down in the back, it is difficult to maintain a position to the rear of the seat.

It is much heavier than OEM.

Rearmost position is too rearward...aesthetically it looks nice to keep the lines long, but a more forward position would be better for just about anyone under 7 feet tall. Some have gone directly to Corbin for a custom saddle. Same price, just a bigger hassle. Keep in mind having them redo their factory saddle will cost the same as a new custom saddle...I think that is because most of the effort is in the upholstery.

 

I would highly recommend their custom saddles and I regret not doing it that way.

I guess I could sell this one and get a custom...but it really is not that bad either.

I have alot criticism for the Corbin factory saddle, but I would not dare go back to Guzzi OEM except to ride two up.....

Man, you are fast! I was just about to write a post and when I got back you said everything I planed to say. About all I would change is that I would suggest looking into having you stock seat rebuilt by a specialist. Corbins better then stock but far from optimum. I would see if Rich Mound (is he still doing seats?) or some other person can rebuild your seat before I would go with a Corbin. Besides being VERY firm Corbin's customer support sucks. :2c:

I have a Corbin Gunfighter that I purchased last year and was not happy with it. Offered it for sale but no bites. I agree that Corbins customer service sucks.

 

So I took it to a local upholstery shop and am letting them have at it. Shaving it down so it will be closer to the original shape as I found the stock seat better (go figure). The slope was just too high and put me too far foreward. I just wanted to get off that seat after an hour so hopefully these changes will be an improvement. It`s all a matter of ergonomics, what`s good for one person may not be good for another.

 

Picking the seat up Monday. You`ll get to see it at Utopia as this will be the test ride.

 

Just as an aside , my buddy took his `01 Sport to the east coast and back (Thunder Bay) on a stock seat with no complaints. I wimped out , left the LeMans at home and took an `81 Gold Wing, seat wasn`t much better.

 

Check out Wasaga Beach on the way up, it`s Canadas' California, (white sand beaches and bikinis' galore).
