Guest ffatdad Posted October 27, 2006 Share Posted October 27, 2006 I replaced the spring on the ratchet shaft in the transmission but now it will only shift into 1st & second cant get it to shift to 3rd. It was shifting fine prior to the spring braking. Any ideas? I must have put something tpgether wrong in the trap door, help !!!! thanks ,jim I would guess you got the shift mechanism gears out of sync when you put it back together. I thought it was odd that in neutral, the marks didn't line up- you have to match the marks, then turn the gears to neutral. This may help- this is the picture I took of mine before I took it apart to make sure I would get it back the right way. Of course, this may not be your problem at all, but I think the 1, 2 shift used one gear, and third brings the other into play. If it was not lined up properly, it may create your problem.
