drewscura Posted June 21, 2009 Share Posted June 21, 2009 So, as I'm sitting on the side of the road waiting for a truck and admiring my trashed rear wheel bearing, I thought I ask you guys where the best place to go for wheel bearings here in the states. And also, is 16k miles a good run for a bearing?I have the manual and I don't remember seeing the interval for these things. Baldini Posted June 21, 2009 Share Posted June 21, 2009 As matter of interest, which bearing is knackered? They seem to eat left side (Brake side) brngs - but I've never figured out why. I've always wondered why torque fig. in handbook is given for right hand (bolt head) side rather than for nut. Bearing is 6204.2RSR.C3. Any bearing factor or Guzzi dealer should carry them. DeBenGuzzi Posted June 21, 2009 Share Posted June 21, 2009 I got new tires at like 11k and they were pretty knackerd and lucky my dealer checked them all(and replaced them all) the dealer went as far as to send a guy on a scooter down to a supply shop to get better than stock replacement bearings for me and only charged me the price of the bearings, damn good shop back then, not as good now, they moved and things changed, miss those guys. Tom M Posted June 22, 2009 Share Posted June 22, 2009 I got the rear wheel bearings from McMaster-Carr for about $11 each a couple years ago. Their part number is 6661K105. The bearings I got were SKF 6204-2RSH/C3 GJM (made in Argentina). They also have a grease gun fitting that will reach the front U joint if you need one. I looked in the manual when I made it home and realized that the interval for them is 12k miles. I guess I'm a little over. luhbo Posted June 22, 2009 Share Posted June 22, 2009 The seats usually show widely spread diameter tolerances. If the old bearing goes out easily, a normal bearing is good on this side. My '02 with Marzocchi forks uses two different bearings: 52x 25x 15 mm = 6205-2RS 52x 20x 15 mm = 6304-2RS I don't know if your Scura is different because of the the Ohlins fork. If you have the hollow axle I'm sure it is, but I think those came on later bikes? Hopefully a fellow Scuristi will chime in One of my front wheel bearings felt a little gritty the last time I had the wheel off so I ordered the set from mcmaster. They will go in the next time I pull the wheel, but this time I'm going to use a real bearing puller. I'll pick up tomorrow for 52 bucks all the way around. From now on I'm probably going to plan on bearings every 10k miles. Better safe than stuck on the side of the road again.
