accesories as settlement for engine paint

Im in the process of submitting the claim for my bubbling engine paint, I dont want my dealer to tear apart a good running engine for a cosmetic issue and want to take the "free accessories option" does anyone here know what moto guzzi offers as a settlement in accessories? Im sure someone here has taken that option as opposed to case replacement. I wnt to make sure I dont purchse something that MG is going to offer for free.

as i recall the "allowance" for schwag was about $400 or $450 at best, and

from what ive also heard you could be waiting as long for the gear as

cases anyway.

i figure i can buy a BETTER jacket cheaper !

some, and im sure theyll speak up, wished theyd done the repair after

all was said and done...

ill share w/ you that MPH found prematurely worn rod end bearings

(it was making noise)...and apparently theres a "pattern" w/ some

years/models and the bearings used....so i consider myself all the

more "lucky"...

im glad i took the extra time and effort to get the bike to MPH...it

runs better than it ever did & im more confident in its reliablity now

too (mph repaired the infamous pal/shift return spring while it was

there).

MPH, like any REPUTABLE (and capable), Dealer stands behind their

work...one walk around their shop, or conversation w/ them, or forum

inquiry & and youll understand...its night and day compared to my

local dealer....its a damm shame guzzi doesnt have more dealers like

MPH.

for me a jacket or bags wasnt an option...ive got 'em already...and i

wouldnt wanna wear a guzzi jacket while riding my other bikes (cause

you know its a fashion show ;)...and what if i sold the guzzi (which

i cant imagine)...besides jackets wear out/fade etc...guzzi's DONT :D

I felt the same as you with my 2002 California. I went for the hardbags then sold them.

They were offering jackets (2) bags hard/soft and some other stuff, but that was for a California. Give them a call.

One reason I did not go for the cases was the same as yours and mine is not that bad, some others were, they would not extend the warrenty, only replaced the cases not the pan cover or the transmission case or in the case of the V11 the bevel box which I heard will eventually start to bubble. Plus I was told there is no guarantee the new cases won't bubble. To bad they didn't use the same paint and method as HD. Their black cases look great and they sell touch-up paint.

Good luck.

heres a pic of mine w/ over 600mi on since the case replacement...

its next to impossible to determine the diff. in either color or texture....

Im outta warrenty (and most probably will be too by the time

they GET the cases OR the work is completed).

So worst case im no better or worse off warrenty wise...

fact is...MPH stands behind their work...so i have some additional

"warrenty" (if you wanna call it that) having had the work done

by a reputable dealer....and i look at it this way...ROD END BEARINGS

were replaces and i didnt even know they were prematurely worn !

BIG end...I laughed when Todd told me it was makin' noise...i said

how could you hear anything over that clutch ;)

MPH would be the ones to field these questions...but i beleive theres

a "history" w/ certain year models and the bearings the factory used...

i only had about 2600mi on mine (id call that premature wear)...i havent

seen the bearings YET (forgot to get my parts)...but its my understanding

they were quite worn.

i find it interesting that youd put cosmetic bits on the bike but dont

care about the bubblin'/chipping paint....

I had the same warranty work done at MPH for knocking noises that developed in about 2000 miles. Turned out to be the rod bearings. '03 V11 Sport Naked bought from Orange County. Really, it's an '02 with the pad on the tank and external fuel pump. The paperwork says '03, but everyone knows better. My cases haven't bubbled yet, but I'm expecting it. I also expect that there are many of the V11 Sports in that vintage that are timebombs for this same problem. It's a knocking noise that kinda sounds like it is a valve problem at first, then gets really loud.

Well the bubbling ,chipping paint does bother me,and if I had a dealer nearby that was verified to be competent to tear the engine apart to its most basic parts, and assemble it as good or better as the factory, such as MPH Cycles, believe me, I would have the cases replaced. Where I am located in southern Arizona there is a dealer( Renaissance motorcycles) in Tucson, 125 miles away and a dealer in Phoenix 225 miles away(not sure of name) I really dont know if they would be good to undertake such a job as case replacement, maybe they are, who knows, but everyone knows MPH Cycles kicks ass. Im taking the second best offer since my V 11 which is an 02 sold as an 03, also purchased at orange county Triumph is running fine as of 4700 miles, I havent heard any unusual noises and she runs like a raped ape. I want the carbon fiber fairing like my rosso mandelo had due to me needing some wind protection. Ciao. Rick..

V11 's sure do make some noise. I had to get accustomed to the noise especially at idle in neutral. Very different from my California which is quiet except for when the clutch is pulled in then you can hear it. Valves are a little quieter on my V11.

What changed after 2001 with the V11's. Other than the recall items in the 2000 to 2001 model I have not heard of any other problems from owners that I hear for later models.

  • 1 year later...

I had a burned/scored main bearing upon my shop doing the case swap too.

I had seen my oil light flicker once, and I stopped and luckily was near a gas station and dumped some oil in.

I don't know if that was the cause, or some other low oil condition in those first couple years, but it was pretty lame in my opinion to already have a bearing cooked.

As a comparison, not that I recommend it, but I nearly ran my old FJ1200 out of oil a couple times due to all the leaks, and it didn't seem to even care. That was 1989 vintage with 80k miles, and it was air cooled as well.

Why is the Guzzi so sensitive in comparison? Cheap bearings? Or?

its my understanding from SMARTER folks...that the bearings have been traced to

a bearing lot "range" and some particular model years...

my light comes one too...scares the hell outta me...and i under stand that Pete Roper

from down under now has a "sloppage" tray that is designed to keep more on the

bearings and other parts (that dont get it under hard launches...

My dad had the engine paint issue on his Cali Sport Special. It took him 2 years to get the bags he got instead of the engine case swap. The reason was that guzzi owed the bag manufacture tons of money and never paid them. Once Piaggio took over and paid the past due bills the bags showed up.

Does anyone know if the Rosso's had a rod issue ? My brother jus picked one up with around 26,000 miles
