  1. Excellent decision. I did a lot to mine in an attempt to truly personalize the Cafe Sport. At the very least, I would suggest that you immediately install a set of slip-on pipes. I've got M4's on all my V11's, but, anything is better than what is on it now. Bang for the buck, new cans are the best single investment you can make.

The second thing to do, and this may or not be cash intensive, is get those Ohlins properly set to your weight and riding style. Sure, ride it a while and let them break-in a bit, then get them serviced and set-up. If you don't weigh much, great. It may only be a clicker adjustment. If you are over 180 lbs like me, then there would be some spring replacements to your Ohlins that should be made.

Everything else you might do to the bike is just a way to spend money that should go towards gas, oil and tires.

Enjoy your new bike. The Cafe Sport is the best of the last of the spine frames......

  2. When I had MPH put o.e.m. clip-ons and get rid of the frame mounted windscreen for a bar mounted one on my Cafe Sport, we had to replace the headlight with the legacy Bosch unit to get rid of that 2" protrusion.

  3. I'm looking for the three piece Edgington molded Kydex parts to replace the hugger on my Cafe Sport. Anybody got a set they have decided not to install? I'm also looking for an o.e.m. Guzzi tankbag for the V11's. Thanks

  4. Well, I'd rather not start an oil thread here, but this is my theory. And this is specific to the big end rod bearing issue.

Two of my V11's have come from MPH and the Haven's shop has done all the work on them, including my first '03/02 Sport Naked that came from the discounter. It was this bike's problem with the big end rod bearing knock that got me down to their shop in the first place. Mike has told me to use the factory recommended 5W40 oil in a synthetic, period. I live in the Mid-South where we get high 90's temps in the Summer and I always thought it was too light a specification. I also assumed that air cooled engines like the V11 had large clearances similar to air cooled aircraft engines and needed a thicker oil to seal, clean and lubricate. I believe now that the clearances are tighter and the need for thicker oil in the heat of Memphis summers just isn't an issue. I think the most damage/wear is incurring on start up and this is why Moto Guzzi is putting out this 5W40 spec oil recommendation.

  5. Parvo,

It is likely that your bike has the mirrors for the Coppa Italia on it. Some people refer to them as "Madonna" mirrors because of the shape. The other mirrors on the Billy Bob are better. Larger and the stems are wider. Those came on my Cafe Sport and I'm retrofitting them to my '03/02 Sport Naked bike for better rearward visibility.

  6. I'm convinced that all the rear wheel spacers in the '02 and '03/02 bikes are suspect. I do hope that this isn't going to be an issue with my '04 models. All these bikes need to be checked for a too short spacer and probably before you need that new tire put on.

  7. I'm sold on the Metzler Sportec M-1's. The M-3 is out now and the M-1's are on sale at a good price. It was o.e.m. on my Nero Corsa and Cafe Sport. Just put a set on my '03/02 Sport Naked to replace the crappy Bridgestones that came on on it originally.

  8. Martin,

I would like to hear about what happens in your next service interval. I'm running a Multistrada on that oil and haven't had that happen. I was about to go with that as the oil for my Guzzi V11's but, that slurry looks odd. Please follow up on your report.

  9. I don't think he's after "his" serial Number. I think he is trying to get the production dates and serial number ranges to find out where his Guzzi falls out in the production. Hell, nobody can come up with the totals for importation of the various models into the U.S. much less when the bikes were built.

If anyone can come up with real numbers for the Quotas, Rossa and Nero Corsa's, the Cafe Sports, Copa Italias, and Scuras that were brought in, post it.

  10. I haven't put mine on yet, but, I too have gotten down to the local HD shop and purchased the wider mirror sets. I was lucky to get them cash and carry. The shop had to stock a lot of parts for the Buells for the Buell demo weekend here in Memphis that they wouldn't normally stock. I got these mirrors just prior to their return to the warehouse. Maybe put them on this weekend.
