  1. I've wondered about this. Excuse my ignorance of the construction and parts – would it be possible and cheaper to change the flywheel only and keep the original Scura clutch?

The clutch seems to be a very expensive replacement part. I suppose in Guzzi world a new flywheel could also be very expensive?

I should check to see if the parts are integral: maybe they can't be got/fitted separately. Someone can elucidate please.

I like the operation of the Scura's set-up.

I too liked the operation of the single plater, but to be honest the difference on a road bike is slight. In actual fact the V10 unit I have in is smoother on tick over and the difference in pick up is barely perceptable.

It is an expensive replacement part, but there should be plenty of second hand twin platers kicking about now, I would have thought. I just sourced one of these and assembled with new plates.

I'm curious as I've never heard of anyone with a Tenni or Rosso Mandello with clutch problems. Has someone here with either of those other bikes reported a clutch failure yet? Its been a long time since those bikes have hit the streets & I havent heard anything bad yet. Mine just turned 15k miles & runs + shifts perfectly. :mg:

Yes, I think the problem seems to be confined to the 'improved' version fitted to the Scura. :moon:

I haven't heard of any 'grenading' problem with any other single plate models.....

Anyone else heard of it?

  2. Back problems? Certainly not for the "cool" factor...

    Rj

    Agreed.

Although at the time I came across this, the 'Alternative bike' thing was in vogue & this may have been a tongue in cheek swipe at it.

It was at the TT, so this 'statement' may have been seen by a lot of folk.

Or I just could be reading meaning into it that isn't there.

  3. I don't wish to be a scare-monger but........

Seriously think about swapping for a twin plate clutch assembly.

Failure certainly appears to be a 'When' rather than 'If.' It is not even the fact that it fails bothered me, rather it was the spectacular mode of the potential failure.

Mine was not making any out of the ordinary noises, but when I removed the alloy flywheel I had it penetrant tested and it was starting to crack. :moon:

Budget for it and put it on as soon as convenient.

Other than this pretty major caveat,I have found it a belter of a bike!

  4. Well, I've posted a few times before about not being able to get parts that were ordered under warranty from the UK dealer where I bought the bike. These are the most basic of parts and I've knocked-up an alternative, so it's not a life or death issue: I've just been persuing it as a matter of principle – a matter of warranty to which I am due.

It is now a full year since these parts were ordered and I still don't have them.

I've been chasing the dealer with no success. They say that one of the parts has never been sent from Italy blah blah blah and eventually I said to send the parts that they did have anyway – but there has been no further response at all.

At the beginning I asked other UK MG dealers to get the parts and they could have claimed the warranty work payment (I would fit the parts myself). The other dealers wouldn't do it and said I would have to go through the original dealer. I gathered that they had tightened up, from general frustration.

The message that keeps recurring in this Forum is: don't count on the MG warranty; reckon on having to source parts rather than automatically be able to get them through your original dealer; it's best if you can do your own maintenance; you may have to bodge, fiddle and 'make do'.

    Try these fellas for parts.....

They are knowledgeable, helpful and their prices ain't bad either.

  5. You are right. It's an old picture. Mid 80's maybe.

    Very close....

    About 1982 if memory serves.

Those bars look really comfortable; I can't imagine why more Tenni riders don't fit them.

    :lol::thumbsup:

  6. Amateurs!

Look at these intrepid young gentlemen.

It was a GSX250 Suzuki outfit.....

Yes there is a fella sat in the sidecar.......He is hanging on to the parrafin stove!

Ah! The carefree excesses of ignorant youth!;):D

  7. I junked the plastic cover on my Cali in favour of an alloy V11 one.

It came with manky paint on, but I polished it up on a buffing wheel.

It still has a patina of usage which suits the style of the bike.

Shouldn't take too much effort to keep it presentable.

  8. The Scura's waiting on tyres again...so I went for a ride on the old Tonti. 30 f*kin years & they really haven't come up with anything better. Heh! Heh! :bike:

Agreed! The 'new' Cali is a hoot! :race:

Seat height is at an altitude I can relate to more easily, & it performs better than any cruiser has a right to!

It is undergoing a 'retro' excercise at the moment. Using the T3 Cali as an inspiration.

As regards roads I think us rural Celts are spoilt rotten!

  9. I can collect and keep until you come to sunny Yorkshire if required

    Dave

    That would be handy, Dave.

I will be staying in Knaresborough, so it would only be a short hop.

There are some cracking pubs in Knaresborough too, if you fancy a little trip on the train I will buy you a couple of pints of real ale in Blind Jack's if the idea appeals? :drink::bier:

  10. Emailed you confirming 2 off requirement, Pete.

Have a small issue to sort out re. collection / postage as similar to our Irish brothers, I ain't on the same lump of land either!;)

I would appreciate it if some kind soul would collect and post on or if mutually convenient hang on to them pending my visit to North Yorks in early November?
