  1. Same thing happened to me. Out of warranty and not a "known" problem as far as the importer is concerned. New Ram clutch is working fine (8000 kms). Most of the failures seem to have happened around 15000 to 20000 kms. What is your odometer reading ?? A sigh of relief in another 20000 km or so. Regards Bruce
  2. Thanks everyone for your replies. The Scura is back in the action. Regards Bruce
  3. I have a Scura with the first series Ohlin forks and a workshop manual. Would appreciate if anyone could answer these questions for me. 1. What torque values are used on the two bolts on the right hand side fork-below shaft. The workshop manual doesnt say anything other than they ensure 'dynamic packing" and to use the prescribed torque. This is not listed in the torque section or on the fork diagrams !! 2. Brake caliper bolt torque front and rear ? 3. What grade (if any) of thread locker for caliper bolts and lower fork bolts ? Regards Bruce Reader p.s. I tried the Brembo and Ohlins sites with no luck.
  4. I'd check your Frame to spine bolts-especially up front. I had a weave/wobble problem when changing lanes on the highway at 100+ km/hr. one bolt loose- one bolt MISSING !!!!!!!!!! regards Bruce
  5. Pete. My 2002 Scura has the exact same symptoms at the moment. Still getting around to sorting this out. Hope you come up with some ideas. Bruce
  6. Ok so i removed the tank and airbox to set the rear spring preload. Forgot about the air temp sensor on the airbox and have two exposed wires ripped out of the connection. One is white/red stripe and the other is purple. Looking from the front of the bike at the airbox which is left and which is right ? Thanks for your time. Bruce
  7. The clacking noises are the same for my Scura- Including the quiet to clacking noise post 1500 kms for the relacment Ram clutch. I think that the screeching sound mentioned in another post may be indicative of a problem emerging. I had that noise just before my melt down of the previous Ram clutch. Love the feel/performance of the clutch- the clacking noise is cool at the lights. Regards Bruce
  8. If you have the single plate Ram clutch i would check it. I had a squeal or screech sound at times before my clutch munted itself. No similair souunds since the relacement. Regards Bruce
  9. Interested to know what the flywheel weighs. I think it may be 1.5kg. Happy to know you got some use out of the ring gear it was yours to use. I'm in Vic so give me a email if you end up racing down this way and i will try and check out the Goose. Regards Bruce
  10. Is the flywheel 1.5kg ? Bruce
  11. The same instructions. Can you confirm the weight ? Bruce
  12. It does seem very light. I'll try to double check it for you guys. The new flywheel does seem to spin up a fair bit faster tough. Maybe this was due to the comparison of a failing model versus a brand new iitem. Cheers Bruce p.s Found the paperwork. The picture are 2nd/3rd generation photocopy so its near impossible to nut out a design difference to the ignorant such as myself. Perhaps i could send the paperwork to Pete Roper for a comparsion with the stuffed unit (if he still has it).
  13. I didnt get to see the new ram unit on my bike- though i have the paperwork that came with it. The spare parts guy told me it was about 1.5kg. I weighed the old one later to compare. I'll see if i can find the paperwork as it did have photos of the unit. Bruce
  14. G'day From memory the ram clutch that munted itself on my Scura is approx 3.5kg-4kg. (Pete Roper has my old one and may confirm). The replacement Ram was approx 1.5kg. Spins up a fair bit quicker. 6000 kms with the new one and no problems so far !!!!!!!!!! Bruce
  15. Ed, would love to get hold of a copy of the cd's (56kb internet not up to it), if you are successfull. Happy to pay for the discs postage etc. Regards Bruce
  16. Hi all, It would seem that the lower top end output with improved mid range is also borne out on the Mistral versus standard crossover on the Moto One site dyno results. This was recently referred to in the exhaust/crossover thread. My Scura lost 6hp on top end with an improved mid range. I elected to wait and try a Stucchi. regards Bruce ps. Sometime in the near future the Scura will have the fbf pistons, stucchi crossover, and twin plug heads done (Remus cans on it at the moment). followed by a remap and dyno. Brad at Moto One may post it on his performance page when its done.
  17. I've had handling problems with my Scura at times. Check the frame to engine and frame to frame bolts. Several of the front bolts at different times have loosened and one even fell out !!! I think they need to be removed and loctite applied as just tightening them results in breaking any previous loctite bond that you may have. On one ocassion a slight grinding feeling could be felt on the bars when travelling downhill through a right hand corner coupled with a tendency to run wide. This noise was the result of the front left frame bolt under the tank being loose leaving a circular abrasion around the contact point. This may be of some use in detecting your problem. Regards Bruce
  18. Paul- Don't know if the clutch was worked on before i owned the Scura. It was owned by someone from the previous Australian Guzzi importer. The bike had 4500 kms on it when i bought it. I'll see if i can find out. The Ram unit that is in the bike now went from quiet to noisy after 500 kms. This clutch/flywheel feels lighter than the previous. Steve from Moto One states that the unit now on my bike weighs 1.4 kg whereas the old unit come in at 4kg. Let us hope the extra weight wasn't saved around the bolt holes. I wasn't able to directly compare the two units as Moto One is out of these Ram kits. I'm no engineer but the broken flywheel looks like it could retain more "meat" around the central area. Leafman- My bikes clutch performed perfectly from day one with a similair riding style that you mentioned then it munted itself with very little warning at 22500 kms. I'd enjoy your riding while being wary ! Pete- looking at the bolt holes. Doesnt appear as if anything other than flat surface contact was made around the holes- nil gouges etc. Have a look and see what you think. Regards Bruce
  19. Pete I've dropped off the clutch/flywheel to Steve at Moto one. Your more than welcome to examine and or look into a solution for this. Don't worry about the returning it. Its yours to play with. The more you start to play with these new bikes the sooner you may have one. We all would probably benefit from this. regards Bruce ps. are you able to post some pictures to the forum of the unit ? The damage is remarkably similair to previous images.
  20. Hi to all on the forum. This is my first post, ( a lurker for a few years). I'm the guy Pete Roper was talking about from Melbourne Australia with the latest Scura clutch issue. Basically my story is the same as Roberto's with near exact triangular cracks through the fly wheel. Roberto's description of failure was word for word like my expierience. "The first signs of it was vibration through the clutch lever and a little more noise while changing gear. On investigation I've found that the flywheel centre where it is attached the the crank has separated from the rest of the flywheel, and many cracks are radiating outwards." This thankfully all started happening at a moderate speed with no rear lock up etc. The bike was fixed at a local dealer, (light weight Ram clutch installed). As the bike was 3 months out of warranty no one is listening from the importer. I have the clutch at home and it is a Ram. I bought the Scura from another dealer with 5000kms on the clock and it now has 22500kms on it. I will be having a chat with the parts guy at Moto One in Melbourne to compare the the broken with the new to see if there is a difference. The new Ram unit has a different friction surface on it and it must be lighter than the previous Ram unit as it definitely spins to red line much quicker than before. It would be "nice" for Guzzi to take notice and act on this before someone is killed !!! Regards Bruce
