  1. It's interesting that both the models seem to be sporting "street" tires. Is Guzzi trying to tell us something about this new "adventure" bike?
  2. +1 on using Photobucket for posting pictures. I started using it about a month ago and am sold. Quick and easy. I'm looking forward to seeing the new bike...and I'd love to see pics of the old one too. I totaled my '02 Le Mans last year (pilot error) also. I went down the other road and brought it back from the dead. There were times I wished I'd simple parted it out and replaced it but now, in hind sight am glad for the chance it gave me to get to know my bike. Welcome back!
  3. I love this board. Sorry about your engine staedtler but the way you guys are stepping up to the plate in a members time of need is inspiring. Thank you.

    guzzi crash

Let me add my condolences...I'm so sorry to hear about the accident. The picture you posted of your bike on its side with all its precious bodily fluids draining out all over the tarmac is as sad a thing as I've ever seen. Awful. On the plus side however I am living proof that there is (motorcycle) life after a crash. Use your down time to deal with your bike. Make no rash decisions. Keep the faith. "In Guzzi We Trust"
  5. Yup, down and dirty. Apparently they/we have been the target of hackers for some time now...part of the downside of running a large website with such an large membership. While our fearless leader sorts things out (new host, new DNS, reload everything, etc.) we are huddling, entrenched over HERE. Please drop by and help keep the dream alive!
  6. Damn, I got it wrong again! I am doomed to be the perpetual newbie. So now I'm going to do another no-no...I'm going to cross post. This was my original post in "Meetings and Club Events" and hey, it's like I'm recycling (being sooo environmental...even though I'm in the timber industry _______________ I have just returned home after attending NoCal (lo phat) Rally and must say that it was a total delight! This was my first ever All-Guzzi event and I was quite pleased to meet and put names to so many of my fellow NoCal Guzzistas. There were quite a few bikes in attendence but I was a bit dismayed at the lack of "sports" models (there were only a few and 3 of them were the same as my '02 champagne V11 Le Mans...one of them belonging to our fellow V11 forum member Lamedog). It was also cool to get to meet CIV11 and to see tomsp again (oh my, that centauro...wow!). My wife has recently made noises about no longer wishing to ride her own bike so much and has actually raised the point of perhaps going two-up. While at first dismayed I realized this gives me the opportunity to perhaps purchase a SECOND GUZZI! So with all the MG touring bikes attending I took the opportunity to evaluate their "two-uppedness" or "potential side-car-ness" (I'm sure these aren't words but seem to work for me). All in all, it was great fun, I spent too little time at the actual gathering but the weather was our friend and the ride to and from "Guzzi's By The Sea" could NOT be beat (really how many PERFECT motorcycle days do we actually see...the weather was not too hot, not too cold, wind at my back both ways, great company, bike ran wonderfully). I WILL be back next year...with bells on. This was me this AM after riding through a bit of deep fog and then having the sun break out just as I passed the school house and church from Hitchcock's "The Birds" in Bodega.

  8. Excellent! I look forward to seeing you again Tom...nice for this newbie to see at least one familiar face at his FIRST EVER MOTO GUZZI EVENT! I'm jazzed.

    NorCAl Rally

I should be rolling in sometime Saturday afternoon with OregonAl (from the Wild Goose forum). I'm staying the night then will be heading back up north on Hwy 1 to my home in Eureka on Sunday. More info is in THIS thread.
  10. I'll be heading down from my home up north in Eureka sometime in the A.M on Saturday morning. Oregon Al (from the Wildgoose board) will be spending the night here and we'll hopefully arrive mid-afternoon on Saturday. We're planning on coming straight down Hwy 101 to Santa Rosa then across on 12 (the most direct route) so we should make decent time. I've rented a room in Bodega Bay (hey, I'm just too old and too much of a wimp to be sleeping on the ground anymore) and will be there Saturday night. Hopefully we can get some sort of breakfast thing organized for Sunday morning and then I plan a more leisurely ride back home up Hwy 1. The weather looks like it's going to give us a break. Partly cloudy with daytime temps in the mid to high 60's.
  11. Me (Dr Gil) standing outside one of the only two Moto Guzzi dealerships in Rome, Italy...sigh.
  12. It was mentioned in another topic that this event has received almost NO mention here on the V11 board. This post is to hopefully help correct that oversight. GUZZI'S BY THE SEA A Gathering of Eagles When: Oct. 6th, 7th and 8th Where: Doran Beach Campground, Bodega Bay, CA Cost: $10 per night, per campsite, $10 non-camping weekend pass BYOE (Bring Your Own Everything) There are stores and restaurants near-by. Me, I'm planning on showing up mid-afternoon on Saturday after motoring down (route still undecided) from my home in Eureka, CA. Do some breakfast on Sunday and motor home.
  13. "Fool" yes. "Educated" well, still learning. The "Dr." is an honorary degree bestowed upon me by the Universal Life Church. I share the same doctorate as the late, great Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. We are both Doctors of Divinity...holy men. ...and yes, I'm up for dinner.
  14. "Guzzi's By The Sea"...(A Gathering of Eagles). October 6th, 7th & 8th. Doran Beach Campground, Bodega Bay, CA. Campsites are $10 per night, per campsight...$10 non-camping weekend pass. I have a motel for Saturday night in Bodega Bay. I do SO need to get away for an overnight! BYOE (Bring Your Own Everything). Me, I plan on picking up some buns/franks and a some drinks on the way down. I'm 5, 6, 7 hours away myself (from the north) and am so looking forward to seeing my brother/sister Guzzizta's on da road! I hope many will be there. I've got the info from Don van Zandt (MGNOC NorCal Rep) and will pass along details if you need them. Contact me for limited info or Don (mowtow@earthlink.net-707-557-5199 or 707-246-9200) for more info. Hope to see ya there.
  15. OK, and here's where the problems start. I've just recently gone through this with Moto International. I order V11 sump gaskets and I get this weird, small stuff (same bolt pattern) with extra-bits attached. Please remember that I'm still new to all this...apparently so is the guy at MI (btw, if anyone needs a couple of these weird gaskets I have some...willing to pass along for mailing costs). MY V11 uses a much larger (without the "extra bits" gasket) and now I'm wondering if the "Roper Slump Pump" will fit MY bike. What gives with these different configurations? Am I doomed to have "oil sloppage" because I am some dinosaur, some failed Guzzi experiment that has gone wrong? Has my time on earth been foreshortened? AM I DARWINIAN? Oh woe is me?
  16. I have an '02 Le Mans with the "crinkle paint"...sigh. My alternator cover is totally chipping and ugly and I'm considering the alternatives. My current thinking is to do what you have done... strip the bitch and make 'er all shiney! My concerns are (same as yours) that I don't know how to maintain that "shiney-ness" and what about the eagle? I like it and want it as part of my finished product. My other newbie questions are: What the hell is that pyramid thingie above your alternator? And HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR EXHAUST SO CLEAN AND LOVELY??? ...so many questions, so little time to actually ride.
  17. Hey! I thought I was an "old fart" but since I have no idea how to answer your question...perhaps I'm not as old as I thought I was. Thanks for the "feel good about myself!"
  18. I love the bike! I love the model! But I hate the photographer ...he showed no respect for either. Bastard.
  19. Thanks Richard...I sort of suspect that it's one of those thingies under the tank. I've been in and out of there so many times during the re-build that I'm sure to have "jossled" something along the way. I just wasn't sure where the "low fuel" measure-er was nor where it's connected. I have my fingers crossed that I don't have to take the tank apart...but if I do, I do. I'm hoping for a bad/loose connection. A little dielectric grease should fix that. I know that disconnecting would be a solution but I insist on treating my first Guzzi like all other bikes...things should work...if not, well then ok. But first try to fix them. "Flashy" things on the dash are distracting to my riding. You will all be heartened to know that my first response to this "problem" was to stick a wee bit of electrician's tape over the light.
  20. My '02 Le Mans has developed a small but annoying problem of late. My "low fuel light" has started flashing me during accelerations and decelerations. It makes no difference how full the tank is and how much input I give the throttle. Rough roads (which also moves the bike around, sloshing the fuel) don't seem to to have an effect on the light...just the faster/slower thing. It may be my imagination but it also doesn't seem to happen until the bike is warmed up (which does't make sense to me but perhaps is real). I have no real sense of where the sensor is, how it works or where the wiring runs (possibly a short or bad connection?). As always, any and all help is much appreciated. Still lame but trying to get better.
  21. Dog, I'm awfully fond of Hwy 96 from Willow Creek, CA up to where it intersects Interstate 5. If I were you I would head out of Napa over to Hwy 101, go north up to Arcata, CA (stopping off in Eureka to say "hi" to me of course) then east over to Willow Creek on Hwy 299, then north-easterly along the Klamath River (sweeping, river road...the kind Guzzi's are best at) to I-5, then north on the slab up to Ashland. 471 miles according to MS Streets and Trips. My wife and I made a 3 day round trip last summer from our home in Eureka to Ashland. A second option would be for you to go up the way we returned. On up 101 to Crescent City and then along the Smith River on Hwy 199, then through Cave Junction. I have a trip report of that ride posted HERE if you're interested...just ignore all the non-motorcycle specific stuff
  22. "Guzzi's By The Sea" (a gathering of eagles) is happening October 6th, 7th and 8th at the Doran Beach Campground in Bodega Bay, CA. I'm planning on riding down Saturday, spending the night at a local motel and riding back on Sunday. For more information you can contact Don Van Zandt, MGNOC NorCal Rep at: mowtow@earthlink.net
  23. Sorry, but I can't supply the film but collecting still photos of celebrity nudes is a hobby of mine.
  24. This thread is certainly making me feel much better about my tumble-down garage/shop. I thought I was the only one working under these sorts of conditions... ...that's StogieBill, myself and Twist (L to R) trying to get the kill switch on my Le Mans hooked back up (don't ask).
  25. LOL, why didn't I think of this! You are of course completely correct...I've never seen anything like the rainbow of shades and subtle variations that fingernail polishes offer...it's quite dazzling! They should be just the deal for small chips. Meanwhile, I find it a wee bit disturbing that you seem so knowledgeable about these "finger nail polishes" down to where the best selection might be found. Be aware, your manliness is being checked into...by someone other than me of course.
