  1. LOLWUT? I'd be more suprised some of you oldsters not being able to reach your nitro pills after seeing all this excitment. ^_^

Nitro? Not the blue pills? Nah. Besides, this is an instructional photo for evaluating the effectiveness of the plastic surgeons involved. I'd say that the results are mixed. At least 3 or 4 of the girls look to be natural. Would I care if I was standing in the midst of them? Nope. Not a whit. Would my wife mind if I was standing their midst? You betcha.

  2. The advantage to N.C. may be more than the "sun on our backs" for rides. OTOH, until you mentioned blue lights, had not considered that our pix (and bounties!) may be in local Tenn. constabularies, so maybe N.C. LEO's might buy our stories as they have not heard 'em before ... at least from us. :P

Seriously, as I have said, you are running this thing, and wherever you say works for Kathi and me. Looking forward to the ride.

Am considering, btw, bringing the EV instead. At 88K, it's never run better, and I have new YSS rear shocks that make it, if not a Norge, mighty fine, even in enthusiastic riding two-up in the pretzel roads. Besides, while not an animist, I do think I sense the EV muttering in a slightly bitchy tone that it does not like it that the Norge gets all the sexy trips while the EV has been relegated to commuting. ;)

P.S. The EV is, as you may recall, an "honorary" spine frame, having been BOM on this site when no one submitted and, as a joke, I suggested Luap make it BOM. She's very proud of that. :D

You suggested it to WHO??? Kind of got the wrong forum there don't you Bill?

  3. If in doubt I have a spare pair of V11 heads for sale :)

Oooh, this could be fun! I could be persuaded (by sufficient and largely exorbitant amounts of cash) to swap out the ported heads on my Sport 1100i for stock ones. Never gonna happen of course, but let's see where this one goes. The only reason I'd consider it is that I want to buy a boat. Call it $1750 (guess what the boat costs...) and you'd have a set of Mike Rich Stage II ported heads, dual-plugged and valve pockets recessed to accommodate a hotter than street-typical cam. They only have 300 miles on them. Now guess what kind of boat does "wheelies" (actually, "proppies") in the water and is about the same size as a motorcycle.

  4. I have Daytona nonstop GTX boots, are absolut watertight, comfortable, and very well made.

For track use I have Sidi raceboots, not made for walking with all hardwere on them.

+1 on the Daytonas. I bought 'em 'cause they were waterproof. I'll bet Paul bought them because he has a Daytona :P

  5. If the bike stalls a lot plus having a lot of trouble in the 2500- 3500 range, I would lean towards replacing the tensioner first and then consider some of the other options. At idle, mine would try to run backwards for a stroke making it stall. If the tensioner is slack, no amount of fiddling with any other part of the ignition system will make any appreciable improvement. My tensioner was so slack that the chain could change the timing a bunch just by bunching up. Above 4000 rpm, the pull is more constant and the chain won't have much opportunity to misbehave but down in the lower rpms, it can play havoc with the timing. There is an after market tensioner available as well as the stock one. The after market one is less expensive and from what I've heard, a better unit. YMMV though. Changing the cam chain tensioner isn't too onerous a job. I changed the chain and tensioner in about 2 hours. I bought a chain from MPH (BMW stuff) with a master link which made the job relatively easy.

  6. We have an ECU thread here: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13803

I bought it mostly because I'm a tech geek so MyECU is much more fun than a PCIII. I also think it's a cleaner and better solution. The downside is your average tuning centers and service shops won't recognise the MyECU. I run closed loop and do everything myself so I don't really care. "The world is my dyno"...

I think you should try to sort your bike first. I'm pretty sure it can be made to run pretty well without spending more money.

Same symptoms I had on my 97 Sporti. It ran like sh!t after 58,000 miles. I spent about $3000 getting heads redone, changing sensors, computers, what have you. Then I changed the cam chain and tensioner. Now it idles. With all of the changes, it still needs work, but I believe the very basic problem was the tensioner. I'd start there then work up the diagnostics food chain.

  7. Hi Greg,

I'm kind of interested in this. You say you know the history of the bike. Was it a crash that has made this fellow sell off parts? It says the headlight is missing. What kind of fastening assemblage could be missing along with the headlight?

Finally, can you see an issue with fitment on a pre '02 V11, with it's non stretched/extended headstock frame. I have visions of fairing to tank fitting issues.

And of course the price. ???

    Steve

You should check the headstock on your bike first. I don't think you'll find the fairing mount point. Cafe Sports and some of the later V11 Sport variants had it and perhaps some very, very early V11 Sports. I know my 2001 didn't have the mount point and I would have had to had one welded on to accommodate the fairing hardware.

  8. I might be interested the big question would be the price?

    Mario

I looked at the posting and it was $700. I momentarily had a lapse of sanity and wondered how it would look on my Norge. Sanity has returned however and I'm not plagued by that vision anymore. That fairing would look good on a Scura though. Black and gold. A good match for the new V7 Classic.

  9. The carb sport 1100's had two small batteries wired in parallel. That allowed for sufficient cranking current with batteries that would fit in the space under the seat. As of 1997, the Sport 1100i had one AGM battery that had enough cranking current to reduce the battery count to one. All of the subsequent V11 Sports, LeMans, Coppa Italias what have you, have that same configuration.

  10. Ok, so I cleaned the starter out with dry lube and let it sit for a day. I also have the odyssey battery on the tender and it now starts. It will stay running but if I shut it down and try and restart after a minute then it doesn't have the juice to start it. What does this mean??? Is there a short somewhere in my system or is my starter solenoid going bad???

A battery tender will NOT give a deep charge to a AGM battery. Put it on a standard car charger on the 2A setting and leave it for a day, then see if you can do multiple starts.

  11. It's not a center stand, it's a shop stand.

I've dealt with DAS once by email. They're really nice people but they only accept bank transfers, not VISA, PayPal etc. At the time, bank transfers cost $42. I was buying a fender for about $110. That's expensive but sometimes there are no alternatives. Here's their contact info.

  12. If you want a sportier look, maybe try something like this.I think someone on this forum has done it to his v11.It is a fairing in the same shape as a 1100sport by Dynotec. But maybe it is possible to put a stock 1100sport fairing on.Anyway, this is what it would look like.

The (early) Daytona and Sport 1100/100i/Daytona RS fairings have to be trimmed quite a bit to clear a stock V11 Sport tank. I've already done this to an early Daytona fairing but the bike has moved on to my son leaving me with a cache of brackets, fairings, windshields, lowers, headlights etc to do the modification. Honestly, I'm not certain that it can actually be done because the V11 Sport tank is so wide that some very special clipons would be necessary and the result might be low, wide and uncomfortable. However, if you're in some sort of masochistic state and want to pursue such a venture, PM me. I also have a sub-frame and rear seat from the 1100i series that would bolt up (awkwardly, especially the wiring) and I'm less inclined to part with those but, as always, money speaks volumes...

  13. The Sport's been running awfully lean: popping on the overrun, stumbling at idle and such.

When I spray solvent into the spring on the bottom of the right throttle body, the idle goes up a couple hundred rpm. I presume the seal on the shaft is done.

Are these rebuildable with an O-ring or such?

Can I take it apart on the bike?

The seals are available through your friendly local Yamaha dealer, part number 256-14997-00. Minimum order was ten though so I wound up buying $37 worth or something like that. Worst part, I don't know for certain they're the right seals as I haven't rebuilt any throttle bodies yet. I don't remember where, when or who posted the original post either. However, if you're interested in trying some out, PM me and perhaps I can reduce my "parts inventory" a bit.

  14. Quoted from wildguzzi 16 July 2008:

in MCN(england) today, guzzi will launch new cruiser model(s )this fall with a 1400 cc 8 valve engine which will also be fitted into an updated norge. The launch will coinside with the american relaunch of aprilla and their dealer network(combined?).Vague i know but thats all it says.
