Anyone know what this noise is? Seems to be getting worse. Has been present for some time now. Bike feels fine while running.

thanks for the info. I think I underestimated how hard I was pushing it in the morning. On the way to work tonight it was fine all the way to 8k without issue.

Was pushing the 02 Scura a little on the highway today and hit the rev limiter at ~6-7k RPM (I am not certain of this so it could have been slightly higher)....when should it kick it? I've never had that happen before. I've never really pushed the bike before. Actually I didn't really think I was pushing it that hard when it happened. I searched 'rev limiter' and came up with this link and another not related to V11's.
Wondering if anyone knows when the rev limiter should kick in so I can make note of the exact RPMs next time. I do not have a Power Commander, just changed the starter, recently upgraded to OMRON relays, any thoughts are appreciated? To keep things in perspective, it has happened only once so far.

PROBLEM SOLVED.
So I am still working on cleaning the old starter but thanks to Scud for sending me his spare starters. Replacing the starter has solved the problem. Started up beautifully today and sounded like a very solid confident startup after sitting for several months of downtime. Thanks for all the great advice. This forum is priceless....great minds and great people! I've learned more about my bike from this one post than any other source in years.

Lots of gunk in there....is it worth opening it up further or just get a new starter?
What are your thoughts on this Mitsubishi starter that is being touted as more reliable and more easy to repair if something goes wrong? Is it even an option for the V11? Scroll to bottom of the link below.

I'll try it again. I can get it open that way but I didn't see a way to pull everything out from that end.

Here is the jump test in slow motion to get a closer look at whats happening. The last two seconds of the video are at normal speed.

I appreciate all the advice. I am going to pull the starter. I haven't done it before so if there are any special instructions on how to approach that I'd appreciate it. Looked on youtube for a video but haven't seen anything helpful as a DIY on how to remove the starter and where to start with opening it up. I have to travel to Boston for the week so will have to come back to this project when I get back.

So now I have cleaned all the wire ends going in to the battery and put vaseline on these connection points. I am getting 12.58v across the + and - terminal and when I turn the key on it goes to 12.28 and slowly goes down if I keep holding it there. When trying to start the engine it does the same thing as before: loud solednoid click but no engine turnover.
Across the + battery terminal and bolt on the engine case (not used by another ground wire) I get 12.58v

Without a doubt these are probably the best cared for V11s we will ever see for sale. I'm sure the time spent maintaining these alone is worth well over the asking price.
How far along is the champagne lemans project? What still needs to be done to make it roadworthy? That is a gorgeous color scheme!
