  1. I never ride my Nero Corsa in 6th gear below 4,000 rpm. 3,000rpm in top gear seems like it would really be lugging the engine/drivetrain...
  2. Yes. You'd still need a Roper plate if you don't want your oil sloshing. Yes. It will bolt right up if you're willing to convert to a "narrow sump" and get rid of the OEM "broad sump". Yes. You wouldn't have to worry about a loosened filter going unnoticed. A Roper Plate and Hose Clamp are the solution I chose...
  3. My carbureted 1996 Sport 1100 needs fork seals on its Marzocchi M1R forks. While I have 'em apart, I thought I'd upgrade the springs. Stockers are a little soft. Anyone know what the hot setup was/is ??? Seems like I've heard Progressive PS-1130 mentioned... I've also thought of the Marzocchi #18.0073 Heavy spring. I weigh 230lbs (not including gear). Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated...
  4. Looks like a '97 Daytona RS or Centauro to me.
  5. Marcelo (santaferider) sends news of Pete and Sean who were in Santa Fe last night: never, ever, allow this guy to tell you he can outdrink you... here are Pete and Sean before the competition. You can see Pete is worried and Sean, ever the lawyer, appears super-confident here is Sean celebrating victory ...and Pete, trying to cope with shame. Something about altitude and jet-lag Actually, piss-taking apart, it was very nice to have them. Sorry, no more photos. Sean got involved in a conversation with Penelope after Pete passed out and I got involved in preparing a late dinner.
  6. I doubt it. As far as I know, Pete and Sean will be in Santa Fe Thursday Night. I hear they're going to meet up with "santaferider" while there. The next stop after Santa Fe is Phoenix.
  7. Thinking of adding bars to my Nero Corsa. Need OEM upper triple clamp from Coppa Italia/Cafe Sport/Ballabio. Thanks, Mike
  8. June 18. Update from Houston thanks to Bushpilot: Looks like Sean caught another night of quality rest & limited de-hydration... he headed out this morning to meet Pete @ MPH where theyll both head for points west (Odessa, Texas tonight). He's got new tires and a new speedo...so no excuses for running outta fuel, picking up "HAGANS" or getting a speeding ticket...
  9. Talked to Sean Saturday morning in Asheville, NC. He's headed West towards the National in Malibu. Saturday night he pulled into a motel in Nashville, unloaded, then went to eat. When he got back from eating he noticed something strange as he walked past his Coppa Italia. Yep. Flat tire. He decided not to mess with it in the dark, so Sunday morning he got up and broke out his handy-dandy plug kit. Seems it was a small piece of a razor he must've picked up just before arriving at his motel. One plug, a little air, and he is good to go. He fought storms around Asheville, North Carolina. Fixed a flat. Two days into his three week trip and it's already becoming an adventure. He arrived here in Fayetteville sometime around suppertime Sunday Night after a 500 mile day on his Coppa Italia. In the last 50 miles he did get to sample some of our roads here. Hwy-23 North from Ozark, then Hwy-16 West into Fayetteville. Tina and I had some good food cooking so we sat down immediately and chowed down: He arrived just before the evening thunderstorm, so we didn't go check out the scene on Dickson Street. He's headed for Houston next... The plugged tire. Holding up pretty well, but lost a few pounds on the ride Yesterday: VA Sean and Rocker59: Back on the road. Headed towards Houston: Sean got a little taste of The Hills yesterday when he got off of I-40 at Ozark and ran AR-23 and AR-16 North into Fayetteville. His route South today will include backtracking on "The Pig Trail", and a ride across "Talimena Drive" before grabbing US-259 South and US-59 South heading towards Houston. He's becoming a regular LD rider! 500 miles yesterday. Probably about 550 miles today! Sorry I'll be missing the party in Houston...
  10. Bikes are cheaper than wives... DAMHIK...

If you mean get rid of the pillion pad, then: I believe Moto International used to have a cover that was a direct replacement for the pillion pad and attached in the same way. It's been a decade since I've seen one, though. Pro Italia made a really nice solo tail that replaced, yet perfectly matched the OEM piece. They are rare and pricey. Last one I saw on Ebay went for over $600. They made a few of them ten years ago. You're going to find that bling and farkles for the Sport 1100 are few and far between. Might be easier to cover your pillion pad with red vinyl like Ducati has done, or have a local fiberglass place make something for you...
  12. I like riding at night. Definitely a different experience from the daytime.
  13. What specs? I'm looking at the owners manual I got with my Nero Corsa and it claims 20.7 liters of fuel. That's 5.46 gallons. Personally, I don't believe it. Especially considering the internal fuel pump. I've never run my Nero Corsa out of gas. The low-fuel light comes on early. About the longest I've ever run mine was 175 miles and it took about 4.2 gallons. That's about 42mpg. However, my bike usually returns an average of 37/38mpg. That means gas at about 160 miles... I'll carry some spare fuel sometime and test its true range. I'm thinking of hooking up the AUX tank I used to use on the Quota for the trip I'm planning for September...
  14. Since the 850 Breva/Griso lump is a big block, just like all the other big blocks, why not suggest a 1200 ? The big block won't fit in the Nevada chassis, so suggesting a big block engine for the V7 Classic is suggesting a whole 'nother bike, no ?
  15. The newer oils have reduced phosphorus and Zinc. The newer auto engines use roller lifters. Our motorcycles have solid lifters that produce a lot more friction. What they are saying is that our motorcycles need an older spec oil with largers amounts of Zinc and phosphorus...
  16. What RPM/gear does this occur? Are you lugging the engine?
  17. My drill is to open the throttle after pushing the starter button. Push starter, then crack the throttle about 1/4 while cranking. Starts every time. Mine has never been like a modern car or newer efi motorcycle where you just touch the starter button and the motor jumps to life. Some throttle has always been required.
  18. Rest in Peace, DrKnow...
  19. Define "hard starting"... How many seconds of cranking does it take? How many attempts at cranking does it take? "battery is in good shape" means what? how old is it? What weight oil are you running? 5w40? 20w50?
  20. It's a baffle that keeps the oil from sloshing around inside the engine. Windage trays are popular with people who race cars. Some older American V8s suffered the same problem under hard accelleration. The hotrodders came up with two fixes. 1) a windage tray. 2). a second pickup in the oil pan. It's simple, really. I have the Roper/Moto Moda sheets on both my bikes and a third on the shelf for future use.
  21. It looks like cut-down OEM can, to me, that are hanging under that tranny.
  22. Depends on usage, for sure. I liked the Pirelli Dragon GTS a lot for sport-touring use, but it was discontinued a few years ago. The Z6 has been the best "long-lived" tire I have found in the past couple of years that still had decent handling and good wet-weather performance. I run the Bridgestone BT-014 on my Sport 1100. Great tire! Short life! Great feel, great stick... I run the Z6 Roadtec on my Nero Corsa because it's set up as my "touring" bike. If Its primary purpose was trackdays and solo Sunday sporty rides, I wouldn't run them.. I'd probably be running something like the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT, Pirelli Diablo Rosso, or Bridgestone BT-014... My next set of tires on the Nero will be the new Dunlop RoadSmart. I have this bike set up with Hepco+Becker luggage and my girlfriend loves riding pillion with me on the thing... I need a "sport-touring" tire that does well in the rain and will last more than one trip to New Mexico...
