  1. There was a brief mention of the foil shield beneath the gas tank...well, there is none on mine and I suspect it just wasnt replaced when I had the tank painted about 18 months ago.

In the meantime the bike (01 V11 Sport) has gone through a HOT Modesto (CA) summer wuth no ill effects.

I am now in process of putting on air filter pods and wonder if I should replace the foil, or is it really a non-issue?

    TIA, Joe :rasta:

  2. Is there supposed to be a crush washer at the end of the clutch line where it screws into the transmission?

I've re-installed my line using a crush washer as it seemed the prudent thing to do, but now I cant recall  if there was ever one there...If its NOT s'posed to be there, will it do any harm?

    TIA, Joe :huh2:

  3. Has anyone swapped their 4.5 inch stock (01 V11 Sport) rear wheel for a 5.5 incher? If so, please answer a quick q' for me.

Will the wider tire/wheel push the tire closer to one exhaust can than the other, making the rear end look imbalanced?

PS. I've tried to search the forum but am having problems...I think this topic has been previously covered.

    TIA, Joe Camarda :helmet:

  4. Hello JM. Go to www.cyclecat.com for details and photos. My guess is that once the clamps are enlarged to a 54 they should bolt onto a Lemans. My guess is also that you would want to use the S type riser (w/ a 2.5 inch rise) and mount it below the upper triple clamp. I'm also guessing that with the S type risers you'll have adaquate fairing clearance. I guess.

Sorry I cant be more definitive.

I think once you look at the website you will be better able than I to judge re fitment. keep in mind that I'm dealing with a bastard stepchild of a V11 Sport mated to LeMans forks and a Stucchi fairing.

Hell, I'm not even sure that my application will work :huh2: ! Pray for me! Joe :helmet:

  5. Hi Edge. Re the Cycle Cats, the largest stock size is 53 but they are enlarging a set of S risers to 54 for me. So I'm getting an "S" riser with a 1.5 inch rise. The clamp is 1 inch thick so the bar will be approx 2.5 inches above the top surface of the upper triple clamp. Cycle Cat also offers a 2.5 inch riser.

GULP  You gotta be kidding me General! How much for the tailpiece? $800 new! Well, okay. Please keep me posted on the availability of yours.

    Joe :rasta:

  6. I've ordered a set of Cycle Cat clip-ons for my 01 V11 Sport and they should arrive any day now

By way of explanation...I currently have a set of LeMans (black) forks on my Sport, and since they are longer than the stock Sport forks they protrude about 1 inch above the upper triple clamp, and the Cycle Cats will be mounted onto this 1 inch protrusion.

By my calculations the Cycle Cats will be

1.5 inches higher than the stock bars.

    1.0 inch set-back from stock.

I had planned on changing the following:

    Front brake line

    Clutch line

And these items should be readily available from Galfers or MPH Cycles or a number of other sources.

But it has now (better late than never I suppose) occured to me that I may also need to change the:

    Throttle cable

    Choke cable

Can anyone comment on the neccessity of changing any of these items? Will I need to? Is there anything else that I may need to change? And if so, any recommendations as to sources?

    TIA. Joe :helmet:

PS...does anyone have V11 Sport/Lemans tailpiece for sale? Damaged is okay.

  7. What is the correct way to check the oil level on my 01 V11 Sport?

Should the bike be upright? On the paddock stand? Or on the side stand?

Should the dipstick be screwed all the way in, or resting on the "lip" to obtain the measurement?

The owners manual says the the dipstick should be screwed all the way "up", so what does that mean....if its "up" then its out!

Anyway, this is kinda embarassing  cause it should be so simple!

    TIA, for answers. Joe :rasta:

  8. Rob, I second Al's endorsement of Helimot's (in San Jose), very nice custom leathers or semi customs (Erbo) leathers. Very nice people to work with also.

If you are looking for warm weather riding gear, I would suggest your local BMW motorcycle shop...especially their Airflow jacket. In fact BMW makes very nice clothing, but pricey!

Marsee is another brand worth looking into for textiles. If you search Motorcycle Consumer News I think they had a comparison on warm weather jackets not too long ago.

  9. I second the motion!

At about 4K miles my bike (01 V11 Sport) was shifting horribly, missing 50% of the time. I dropped in a bottle of REDLINE Heavyduty SHockproof Oil (redstuff as I recall) and the problem diminished to about 5%.

Shortly afterwards I found out my bike was being recalled..the point being that the REDLINE nearly resolved the problem for me! Sorry to say however, that the % of missed shifts has begun to creep up, so now I'll see how well this recall fix works!

If your tranny works well now, add the REDLINE and it'll work weller

  10. I've had the CRGs on my Sport for about a year.Initially they took some getting used to (and the view wasnt too great), but I guess Ive adapted to them now and feel comfortable w/ the view.

BTW, I tried to mount a set of Napoleons but the wouldnt fit into my V11 Sport's clip-ons. What was I doing wrong?

Also check out www.motostrano.com for other mirrors and clip ons. They are a SF Bay Area (CA) store that caters primarily to the Ducati crowd. Good customer service. :rasta: Joe

I think the CRGs can be checked out at the Construction Racing Group site...

  11. Every 2nd Monday. So this month's will be on the 9th at 7:15 PM. If youre in SF take 19th Ave. South to 280 South. Stay on 280 for ABOUT 30-40 miles and exit at Woodside Rd (Hwy 84) and go west. After ABOUT 20 - 30 minutes you'll come to Skyline Blvd (Hwy 35) and there you are....ALice's Resturant.

Hope to see you there. Joe :rasta:

For further info check out www.docwong.com

  12. Well, the reason I'm looking for these particular grips is/are (1) the throttle side grip has the rib which is really nice once youre used to it :bike: , (2) the natural rubber color is kinda elemental and unusual :) and (3) nobody else has them -_- (and/or apparently even knows about them) :!: . Theyre no more comfortable than a set of gel grips....okay, dammit :bbblll: , I just want them for no particular good reason! :rasta:

BTW. Is it just me, or does anyone else think its kinda weird that Al has photographs of everything <_>

  13. Several years ago I found and bought a set of handgrips. They were made of a surgical rubber, were light brown in color, and the throttle grip had a single rib about half the diameter of a pencil.

I would like to locate another set of these, so if anyone can help I would be grateful. TIA :rasta:

  14. I have a spare set of V11 Sport fork tubes that I am thinking of anodizing gold (just 'cause I'm too cheap to buy a set of Ohlins)..Are your comments about the metal being too porous applicable to the fork tubes? TIA :rasta: Joe

  15. I should be picking up my repainted gas tank (white with red "custom" eagles and black MOTO GUZZI lettering) soon and am wondering about using a special sealant around the pet-cock mounting openings and other areas prone to gas leakage. Is there such a product? TIA :rasta:

  16. No failure (fingers crossed) but between 5 and 5.5K miles shifting degraded significantly (from about 5% to about 35% false neutrals between 2 - 5th gears).

I added REDLINE Heavy Duty Shockproof Trannie Oil and the shifting IMMEDIATELY improved drastically. I estimate I have about a 1% malfunction rate now at 6.5K miles.

Yes, mine is one affected by recall. Can anyone recommend a good dealer in Modesto (CA) area? Near SF Bay Area or Sacramento?

    TIA :rasta:
