    Noises

I have a 2000 vll with 17,000 miles. At about 8-9,000 my clutch did the same thing. I just had my bike in the shop for th engine and trans reacalls and asked the dealer to listen to my clutch and to ck it out. He said this is normal and my clutch was in great shape. I would be interested if anyone els has had this problem and if this really is normal. cheers JJ
  2. THANKS KEITH FOR THE ADVICE. THATS JUST THE INFO I WAS LOOKING FOR. WISH ME LUCK!!! OR BREAK A LEG JJ
  3. Hey, guys I have a few questions about changing my fork oil. I have 16,000 miles on my 2000 v11 sport and I know I am over due but this was going to be one of my many winter projects. What brand and weight oil dose everyone like? I do want to keep the front end as close to stock as possable? Also is there anything I need to do in the forks while I am changing the oil (seals)? Any known problems to look out for while doing this job? Thanks, JJ
  4. I had mine dynoed. Does this method change the mapping or delete it? Also when it says turn on the ignition does that mean start he bike or just turn the key to activate pump? Still wary.... I am under the impression that it adjust the current map. I uploaded my map after adjustment and it was only slightly different. If you save to your computer the map you have downloaded you can always revert back to that map. You do not need to start the bike just turn the power on. (Igniton switch too on position.) I did this 8,000 miles ago and no problems. It all depends on what mapping you have and how much you adjust it. Mine was based off the Raceco map. I hope this info helps I did have a friend show me how to do this 2 years ago. Cheers, JJ
  5. Here are the power commander instructions. JJ
  6. To adjust the pcIII with the ignition off you press three buttons at the same time. while still pressing the buttons turn the ignition switch on and hold the buttons. The led lights on the left that say rich and lean will line up at the zero mark. Then you use the buttons low, mid , and high to adjust. I would just adjust in small amounts at first and test drive. I belive I am right I have not done this in a while. JJ
  7. On the power comander (pcIII) you can manualy adjust the mixture (rich or lean).
  8. I had the same problem with the mapping on my pcIII . Around 3,000-3,500 rpm the bike would pop and run poorly mainly when I was in the mountains of North Carolina . I unplug the pcIII and the problem went away . then I plugged the pcIII back in the problem was back. So I richend the mixture slightly manualy on the pcIII and my bike runs great ever since. If you had a fuel and water problem you would have a constant problem until the water was removed. cheers
  9. Jrt Thanks I set my valves last night to .006 and .008 the sound is about the same not bad I cant hear it with my helmet on. I rode the bike last night and no problems the bike runs great. I think I was slightly woried for nothing. I also just kept my bike above 4,000rpms and you are right she is much happier. thanks for all the advice and help JJ
  10. I only notice the noise at idle . not under acceleration or anyother time. Tonight I am just going to set the valves at .006 and .008 and just be happy. I know I am lugging the bike but I only do this on the hwy when commuting. Before the adjustment I could do this with no problem I would just down shift to pass, but since I change the valve settings this has gotten much worse. I will just need to rev the bike more I guess at 60 mph. Thanks for all the suggestions and help Cheers, JJ
  11. I PURCHASED THE RACECO EXHAUST THE POWER COMANDER AND THE K&N AIR FILTER. RACECO RECOMENDED .008 AND .010 FOR VALVE SETTINGS. I DID THIS AND RODE THE BIKE . NO TICKING NOISE ANFTER DOING THIS I JUST DID NOT LIKE THE WAY THE BIKE ACTED IN 6TH GEAR AT 60MPH. SO I WAS TOLD TO ADJUST THE INTAKE TO .006 AND I LEFT THE EXHAUST AT .010. THAT IS WHEN THE NOISE STARTED ON ONE SIDE. N0T REAL REAL LOUD BUT LEFT SIDE IS SLIGHTLY TICKING AND NOT ON THE LEFT SIDE. I HAVE CK THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND THE AJDUSTMENT HAS BEEN THE SAME? MAYBE I SOULD CHANGE THE EXHAUST TOO .008.
  12. THANKS I WILL CK THIS OUT.
  13. I am not sure how to judge the noise. Slight tick from one side. Should I expect some ticking noise from these settings?
  14. I ADJUSTED MY VALVES TO .006 AND .010 INTAKE AND EXHAUST. THE LEFT CYLINDER HEAD HAS ONE VALVE THAT SEEMS TO HAVE A STEADY TICK NOISE. THE RIGHT SOUNDS A LITTLE NOISER THAN BEFORE BUT NO STEADY TICKING SOUND. I HAVE RE CHECKED BOTH SIDES ABOUT THREE TIMES AND ARE SPOT ON. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE ADJUSTED THE VALVES. I HAVE HEARD THE SAYING A TICKING VALVE IS A HAPPY VALVE BUT I WOULD FEEL A LITTLE BETTER IF BOTH CYLINDERS WERE MAKING THE SAME NOISY. IS THIS NORMAL AT THIS VALVE SETTING OR SHOULD I DO SOMETHING ELS? THANKS, JJ
  15. I just adjusted my valve too .006 and .010" and my left side is much louder than the right side. The left side has one valve tapping fairly loudly. I have rechecked the valves twice now and they are spot on. Is this normal can one side be louder than the other side? Or am I doing something wrong. My bike seems to run much better this way any help would be great. Thanks
  16. hey I need help with a part. I have a 2000 v11s and it seem that I have developed a fuel drip off the bottom of the throttle body. I found the problem it seems to be a very small seal located where the throttle linkage connects to the bottom of the throttle body. the shaft that come out of the bottom of the throttle body there is a small seal there. no dealers that I have delt with can help me. Does any body know what I am looking for or a part # ? thanks J.J. svjj@earthlink.net
