  1. Thanks guys. I did this just a couple of weeks ago. It looked overdue...
  2. Thanks. Much appreciated.
  3. Thank you chaps. As always, your help is much appreciated.
  4. Decided to add an extra earth to the bike. Removed the connection at the back of the gearbox and gave everything a good clean, wire brush, contact cleaner. Reconnected tighter than two big bags of tight things together with the earth strap shown. Covered the connection with grease. The cable was precisely the right length to connect to the frame where the exhaust mounts (no risk of it coming into contact with the UJ). Cleaned all that up and finished as above. Painted the exposed metal with Hammerite Smooth Red (a very good match). Hope I haven't inadvertently connected it in such a way as to disturb the space-time continuum. ;-)
  5. Good morning from the Isle of Man. Had a scout around through the FAQs but couldn't see the answer to this question. Apologies if I've overlooked it. I need to replace one of the pilot bulbs. eBay shows two options: R284 (2.3w) and R286 (1.2w). I was going to order the 2.3w bulbs but before I did I thought I'd ask if there's a preferred option? LED perhaps? Thanks in advance for your advice. Off to watch the bikes come through Kirk Michael. :-)
  6. Managed to source an original example. It's a snug fit but keeps things toasty.
  7. No. Not presently but any excuse to buy more tools.... :-)
  8. Ah. Thanks. I should hook a fan up to them and place it over the fuses. ;-) Out on my first ride since the breakdown. Just ten or so miles to a cafe in Ramsey (Isle of Man). Put my finger on that 30A fuse upon arrival. Felt quite warm. Could be my paranoia.
  9. Thank you. There are two redundant electrical connectors. I wondered what should be plugged into them? I'm not 100% convinced Pete was right on this one. ;-)
  10. Don't wish to hog the forum, sorry, but whilst searching-out any and all earth points for a good clean and tighten I fished these two wires out. No idea what they should be connected to. Can't see anything. Flux Capacitor? Thanks.
  11. Read the thread, thanks. Glazed-over for some of it because 'electrickery' but I understood what you'd done. You happened to say you'd revisit it in 2025. Still holding-up OK?
  12. Reading through this thread and coming to appreciate the importance of a good ground. I've just ordered a surfeit of earth straps so I can connect everything to everything else. :-)
  13. Have to remind myself that the breakdown was due to my not regularly (if at all) checking the tightness of the battery terminal connections. It wasn't the bike's fault. My V11 just went over the 30,000 km mark. Low mileage but it's twenty-four years old. In the two years I've had it I've probably only done 1500 km but until the other day it hasn't let me down. Thanks again guys.
  14. The willingness with which people share their expertise and experience says something very positive. Just a thought after wading through twenty-three pages on relays. :-) I was checking to see if the ones I have are good or not. I haven't been carrying spares so that's something I'll need to address.
  15. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience. I don't have a definitive update but since the rectifier and battery seemed to have survived, I cleaned and tightened every connection, replaced the melted plastic blob that used to be a 30A fuse, and she started OK. I'll go for a ride after work but leave the 'rescue' equipment in the van should the Mrs need to come get me. I like the idea of a voltmeter, mentioned above. TT is now underway here. Practice week. Weather's taken a turn for the worse (as per) but it'll still be a great fortnight.
  16. Bearing in mind I've never tested a rectifier before, I watched a YT example and both my yellow wires returned very close readings. Good sign? Thank you, Pete.
  17. Thanks for all the guidance, Pete. I have it on my bench. Connectors look ok. Watched a couple of YouTube videos to see how to test it but can't translate the examples I saw to mine. Out of interest, is it possible that tge loose negative battery terminal was a factor in the breakdown? Can't see any burned bits on the stator.
  18. 30 amp fuse melted to a green plastic blob... More investigation underway.
  19. Hi guys. Thank you again for the guidance. Here's an embarrassing admission. Just looked in on the bike and noticed the battery had yet to reach full charge (Optimate connected to pigtail). Upon inspection noticed the negative terminal had become very loose. I'm now hoping that this 'Mechanic 101' error / oversight is to blame. I'll still follow your guidance as it's all learning, but I've fingers crossed for an easy fix... :-)
  20. Thank you chaps. Monaco GP just finished so heading to the shed to follow your guidance. I did put it on charge for a while and it started fine so that was a relief. Expensive weekend. The boy's kart is in bits right now and needs parts... Thank you again. I'll just add this pic from earlier today. Met my bike's brother from another mother...
  21. Hi folks. TT fortnight is getting underway here in the Isle of Man this weekend. With perfect timing my bike's decided to die.... Would you be so good as to watch this short video and see if you've any idea what's gone wrong? Thank you in advance. Much appreciated.
  22. Here's that Quadlock on the bike. You can see the anti-vibration part there. Definitely seems to help. Quadlock make a proper GoPro mount but I just adapted a regular one.
  23. Apologies. I became concerned some local would take exception to the speeding (they love a good snitch here), so set it as private. I'll do a better one, earlier in the morning with less traffic, and with better sound. And a less visible speedo...
  24. I managed to squeeze a Quadlock handlebar mount on the left-hand side handlebar. Had to loosen the clutch lever bracket to get it through. It came with a three-point rubber mount. I unscrewed the phone mounting bit and fitted a GoPro mount.
  25. Funny. I have spent many years on Harleys so that could actually be the reason. :-)
