  3. Yes that is it. I couldn't cut and paste it in my post for some reason. Brian

  5. True confessions, back when I was young my brother and I used my Bell Star to increase the effectiveness of the funny little cigarettes we smoked. This scheme worked so well that on leaving my brothers apartment on my way to work one summer evening, I pulled up to a stop light next to a beautiful young lady in a convertible with the top down, just as I made eye contact and pulled to a stop I realized I had forgotten to put my foot down. I crashed into the side of her car with my head above the door. Too high I guess, I don't remember what was said but the upshot was I was a complete dolt and should find a better way to introduce myself to people. BMC
  6. Tx, The way I always check them is to unscrew the cap from the wire and check just the cap with dvom. The wire is solid core so while the cap is off I always nip the used part of the wire off to give the cap's internal screw stud a new bite. The caps are available from several sources, one shouldn't have to give a lot for them, five or six USD seems about right. I know it may be sacriligious to some but check Dennis Kirk or some of the other el cheapo places. I have never seen them open and not show on a dvom but I suppose its possible. The reason they affect things more at idle and slow speeds is that the engine is turning slowly enough that the firing voltage is lower because the input voltage to the coil is lower ( you know how those Guzzi's charge ) and the need is greater because at slow engine speeds the mixture is harder to light and higher engine speeds allow this to sort of go unnoticed as the flywheel keeps the engine spinning and also damps some of the vibration that would be more noticable at slower speeds. I know I'm not the best writer but I hope this is understandable. BMC
  7. I have made this suggestion before but will reiterate: whenever one encounters running problems with late model Guzzis it pays to check the spark plug caps!!!!! I obviously cannot diagnose this problem from afar and so I may be wrong. High plug cap resistance can lead to all sorts of running problems especially low speed steady state and transitional low speeds where spark performance is critical. Higher engine speeds are much more forgiving of lost spark voltage. I personally have changed dozens of these caps that showed open circuits. NGK apparently has a problem, on my own bike I have replaced the wires with Magencor wires as I got tired of checking and replacing the caps every oil change, since the replacement I have had no low speed running problems. I had lots of burps and farts before. I work for GT Motors in Lansing MI, this is not an advertisment just a way to let you know that I truly have seen this a lot in the last few years. I believe that the mixture these bikes are required to fire make this all the more troublesome. I have found bikes where I couldn't balance the throttle bodies accurately because of this. 5K ohms is correct value for these if I recall regardless most are marked on the cap. Good luck with your problem!!!! BMC
  8. I don't know where your bike lives but, if your'e going to take the tank off please take a look in your air filter box, if you still have one (pods or individual K&Ns don't count here). These nicely confined small spaces make perfect habitat for some of our furry little friends (mice and so on). I have actually seen a Jackal with a siezed throttle body resulting from this inhabitation, urine ran to low side while on side stand and really mucked things up. A little Kroil and elbow grease and all is right. By the by, not my bike but a customer's. BMC
  9. I stand corrected, thank you Cliff. BMC
  10. Carl, the fuel pump will only run when there is oil pressure, the running before start up is controlled by ECU. When ECU sees 0 psi it shuts down fuel pump relay. It has been thus since the first FI bikes, as I recall. BMC
  11. That looks like Jerry Miculek, the worlds fastest revolver man. A true hero. BMC
  12. I have posted this before but will reiterate. Check the plug caps, 5k ohms is right, many will be open or out of spec, causes misfires at low speed and sometimes at high load, may also misfire throughout range. Engine may be impossible to balance or be incorrectly balanced if slightly misfiring at balance RPM 2-2.5k we keep spares on shelf. I carry a spare on the bike or switch to Magnecor wires which are much more durable in resistance value. BMC
  13. So far two right things I hear, throttle open slightly or throttle advancer on, should start right away. Cycling kill switch will allow fuel pump to run for a few seconds until the ecu sees that there is no oil pressure at which time it will power down the relay. My experience stems from working on many bikes and has been that if you let the pump cycle a few times as Al (I think) suggested using the kill switch you may get instant starts. I usually start V11s by turning the key on and hitting the start button immediatley, if they've been sitting an extended period then I will sometimes use Al's method. The advantage of hitting the button right away is that the pump doesn't stop when cranking. Some bikes are losing their memories, from low battery voltage I assume, and therefore take a few cranks to find the cam position, check those relays again. Check the sparkplug caps, they are notorius for open circuits that will fire when there is enough voltage present but won't fire at low voltages, such as when a battery is slightly low after sitting for a week or two. I have replaced the entire wire with Magnecor wires with great results, same resistance as the stock wires with caps but much better at longterm survival. I have replaced plug caps on brand new bikes before delivery, rough idle, inability to synch throttle bodies etc. are some of the symptoms. Check those caps!!! BMC
  14. MGNA says they were shipped on 2/12/04 from MGNA to dealers.
