  1. For Our Wedding anniversary my wife and I would like to go back to Scotland (where we spent our honeymoon). I think it would be great to do it by motorcycle. Anyone know of a really good motorcycle tour company? I'd love to hit some of the following areas, Corse (near river don and Aberdeen where my family came from) Speyside, up through the Great Glen, hitting lots of Castles during the day and Pubs at night. This would be in a year but planning is key. checked out some companies on the net, but you never know without first hand accounts. Would have to be somewhere that has a good motorcycle for hire etc. Heck it may not even have to be a tour. My wife and I had a blast getting lost daily in the rental car during our 8 days we spent day traveling from Edinburgh, turning off the beaten path whenever something peeked our interest. So if anyone knows a good place to hire a touring bike...etc. Thanks for your help. David
  2. Congratulations to both of you. I bought my '00 Silver Red frame last year and have not ridden a more enjoyable motorcycle. This forum is a huge asset as you already know. 50 degrees here in NH today and went for the first ride since November, I love this bike! Cheers and you made a great decision. David
  3. Can anyone tell me the parts (nut and cap) that screw into the upper triple. Mine was replaced with a cap like threaded cover that allows my magni fairing frame to screw into the top. I need to replace this. I can't find them on the parts fiche. Thanks David
  4. That was kind of my point. I guess it has elements of a cafe (like maybe the seat, but that's about it), so in a sense it's the "cafe package" on a standard motorcycle. I'm not putting down the v7 in fact it was in serious contention for becoming my new ride because I love standards, but the v11 just had a more attractive price.
  5. I have for sale my silver Magni Fairing. It's in excellent condition, I did a bar conversion and will have no use for it any more. Comes with brackets, clip-ons, mirrors and I have an extra windshield for it. The fairing was on the bike when I bought it so I saved everything that had to come off but I don't have instructions. Former owner brought it over from Europe on his lap. IM with questions. I figure you know what they are worth and the difficulty in getting them, I'm reasonable but won't be taken advantage of ;-) David
  6. There is absolutely nothing cafe racer about the v7 classic. It's a standard pure and simple, if you look twice you'd think it was a 70's honda cb750. Standard Standard Standard. The norton commando is a cafe, the new thruxton is cafe, this is a standard.
  7. I'll end up removing the foot controls. I just figured on polishing it well with some UV protectant wax and keep that up. Besides, I park it in the garage on the opposite side from the window so I don't expect it to be sitting directly in the sun like the previous owner had. That's why one chop was pink and the other wasn't, that was the side facing the sun.
  8. BEFORE AFTER 1/2 AN HOUR AFTER AN HOUR +
  9. The chop is slowly coming out red again. I've put about 2 hours in on it and I'm about half done. I have pics and will post them tonight for the work so far. Using: rubbing compound spinning detail brush (to apply) cotton rag to rub orbital buffer (but not often) I only get rare opportunities to get into the garage and work on it so it may take a while for final pics. David
  10. Traced it to a bare wire that was jumping right where it leaves the frame. Taped it up good and replaced the fuse, no more problem.
  11. Are they soft or hard plastic? If plastic then I highly suggest s100 engine brightner. If they are soft bags, I don't know, dye maybe?
  12. Yup, that's exactly what it looks like. Red as blood on one side and pink as a Pansie on the other. Really kind of embarrassing around the guys. Especially Guzzi people, they point it out in less than 30 seconds after I drive up to the local hang out. The dremmel has a buffing attachment but I'll see what good old elbow grease does with the rubbing combound, I earlier tried using a medium strength cleaner and rubbing and that did squat.
  13. I want to bring back the red to my faded porkchop, cause Pink just doesn't cut it. I was thinking some rubbing compound and a dremmel with the polishing bit. Anyone have a better suggestion? I don't really want to pull the part. Thanks David
  14. Not the flasher. Replaced that this weekend. I'll test the back end, though I don't expect it to be there, otherwise it's off to the shop cause I am not getting into the harness.
  15. I'm biased but the Concours does everything. And is more comfortable than most of the other ST's. The 2nd generations (94-2006) can be had for almost nothing and the aftermarket for parts is endless, as well as the support on Cog. They'll run forever. They're definitely not the sexiest thing out there but for major miles, carrying a ton, and wind/weather protection, I don't think anything beats it. If you want more the 3rd generation for around 14k is ahem "cutting edge". David PS. I decided I'm keeping my connie. Well, cause I can't let her go.
  16. Thanks Ratch, no problem, I didn't offer up the info about it being a MVP. both you and hubert have given me some things to check which should confirm what the issue is. Besides every time you offer up information it gives me better insight into the v11 overall. That is much appreciated as I've had a lot of inquiries lately. Cheers! David
  17. Hi guys, the part I'm holding is the L-shaped connection to the speedo. I have an MVP speedo, not the Veg. I haven't disconnected anything from the gearbox. Attached is a pic of what is attached to the gearbox, this attachment has a 45 degree angled connection, where the one in the previous photo is 90 degrees. Which honestly seems backwards. but again, the L-part that was attached to the speedo doesn't seem to have anything that fits up inside the speedo attachment. But all this seems a bit moot as the cable doesn't seem to spin when I take it for a ride with everything disconnected. I've been somewhat timid about pulling on the cable and seeing if it comes out of the shroud. I guess that's next?
  18. I have a broken speedo, most likely the cable. I've posted a picture showing the inside of the top of the L-connector, the cable, and upper left is what's coming out of the speedo, to see if anything is missing as the cable had come apart from the speedometer itself. Seems like a part should slip over the part coming off the speedo. Here is how I believe it should work, but then again I am only guessing. The cable should spin, thus spinning the lower end of the L-connector, which in turn should spin the upper part, and finally spinning the connection to the speedo itself. Well none of that happens. Nor does the L-shaped connector spin anything in the upper part. Can someone describe how this should work, if the L-shape should have another piece on the upper part as I can't see how it connects to the speedo (nothing to grab over, or slide into the speedo itself. Any help much appreciated.
  19. Hi, I'm hoping for some help diagnosing my signal switch. I'm pretty sure that is where the problem is with my directionals which have stopped working. I disconnected the front directionals and tested the wires going to, and then tested the wires coming from directions, both show a continous loop, so I'm pretty sure it's not the bulbs etc. I first identified I didn't have signals when I missed the switch with my thumb and kind of roughly smashed the switch over. Anyway, I have been testing with a continuity tester and have the switch apart. The headlight connections all test fine, but there are quite a few connections under the plate which I don't know what is what. I don't read wiring diagrams so can someone also identify logically the connection? Ie. From battery, to switch, to signals? I just am at a loss when it comes to this. PS. If my rambling is based on total bogus logic, let me know.
  20. I have friends that live outside Sydney, that I went to college with. Bull, as he was known, has often invited me to visit. I only have one thing to say when he asks,,, I am not going to a place that has spiders the size of my hands, deadly snakes, poisonous lizards, sharks, jellies, crocodiles. I mean really, is there anything that's not nasty there? Every time I turn on National Geographic or the Wildlife channel I see another reason I'm not going to Australia. The only thing I have to worry about here in good ole New England is an occasional Black Bear and some idiot cager on her cell phone. PS. that map thumbnail just about sums it up.
  21. To paraphrase, use standard bulbs.
  22. Hi, I have instrument bulbs that do not work, and others that work when they feel like it or such that you can barely see them in any kind of light. I've seen a few LED threads but they are all from 5 years ago or more. Anyone find a newer set of LED's that work as a plug in; No modifications required solution? David
  23. Easy as 1-2-3 once I had enough wrench (length). Thanks, now my mirrors can clear my shoulders as they are now sitting up correctly and the brake and cluctch lines no longer rest on the forks.
  24. Thanks everyone I'll give it a shot this weekend. Have a couple other issues going on. I really should consolidate my posts. ;-) current issues: 1. Broke Speedometer cable (at the spedo) 2. No flashers/signals (I put them together right, I know it) 3. Sticking Starter button. I have solutions for all of them, just need time to do it. But I have been riding with hand signals and I love the new position of the bars. Like night and day. Much better feel and much more nimble in the turns.
  25. The starter may be it. Ever since I reattached the starter control to the handlebar I had some intermitten button sticking. I loosened up the screws and that I thought fixed it. I had a feeling it may be the starter but was thrown how it was related to the clutch being pulled and released. DAvid
