  1. Shame about Ratchethack, I didn't mind him at all - I liked some of his stuff. He had useful experience to contribute & devoted a lot of his time to helping with issues people might have.

Funny thing was; his long-suffering punch-bag, dlaing, disappeared at the same time, maybe they needed each other, maybe they were two sides of the same ego - I dunno.

    KB :sun:

...so maybe dlaing was the little runt after all! Ratchethack gets chucked off - and dlaing then pisses off 'cos he decided

it was not as much fun after all with 'ol Ratch gone. Bit rich of the whinging little prick don'tcha think?

The protagonist's hand-bagging each other may have got a bit much at times - but at least there was something to read when you visited!

Often I swing by from time to time & the post's have'nt changed! WTF is that all about? And you still say you don't want Ratch back?

Listen, forum's are a unique mix of learning, enlightenment, my willy's bigger than your willy, and my Dad's bigger than your dad,

bullshitting entertaining coloseum - kinda like what mates do really!

C'mon guy's, we're supposed to be guzzi brothers! Some of my best memories are the fights I had with my own flesh & blood... (R.I.P.)

I say, let's see whether he'd bury the hatchet and join the faaaaaaamily once again. We're bigger than that are'nt we?

Betcha dlaing will turn up soon after too.... :stupid:

  2. I have been thinking of dual-plugging my Rosso Corsa. Would the shape of these pistons eventually interfere with a second plug? Or maybe Mike's pistons would reduce the need of dual plugging...?

These pistons were developed by Mike Rich primarily to do away with any 'ping' Bjor - which made the dual-plug mod simply redundant in acheiving that.

I'm certainly happy going this simple path, but not in any dual-plugging complexity.

Improving the bikes intrinsic qualities is fine for me - but I'd probably sell my bike if I'm trying to create something more than the sum of its parts.

  3. I struggle to get things I glue to stick - so DIY soldering electrical thingymejigs, just thinking about it, scares the living crap outta me!

If only Kiwi Roy adopted me! :notworthy:

Roughly how much having it ready made?

  4. IMHO, Guzzi's 90 degree V-twin with shaftdrive layout is what inherently makes Guzzi a Guzzi...

Water evolution - hell, even adding a couple of cylinders - ala shaft-drive Motus, would suit the marque.

If not 911-type refining, then explore completely new radical territory!

Nembo, Horex, Christini ilk, just try to avoid trad chain-drive... :2c:

  5. Baldini

You know I'm keeping an eye on, er, Captain Nemo's donkey dong, but just because it can be done - does'nt mean it should! burrolast.jpg

Getting back to this former mod though, I'm accepting Moto Guzzi designed the airbox as is with forward facing intakes for a reason - so why should'nt scooping more (cool) air into their airbox not work? I accept true 'ram-air' effect may not be acheived under 100mph or so, but surely, bigger scoops, scooping more air into the box does makes sense now!

Why has'nt this pvc mod, or as suggested radiator hose alternative, simply not been adopted or at least tried by more riders?

Drilling 3 holes in the lid, or taking off altogether, may be less fiddly option to creating gains - but is it REALLY the BEST, or just acceptd as such?

  6. I used PVC because the inside diameter was a perfect fit on the air box. Also the bend in the PVC was a good fit with the tank/frame, etc.. I feel that the stock air box volume may be tuned for mid-range power as many are on other brands. Removing the air box or drilling holes would cancel this effect. I have no hard data on a Guzzi to back this up but the theory is solid. The PVC is long enough to have the opening below the tank (unlike then stock snorkels) and I cut the angle, on the end of the pipe, to “scoop” air from in front of the cylinder heads. I posted a picture but I hasn’t showed up yet.

Reactivating old post - but does anyone know if cooler air funnelled thru extended, coned-shaped intakes actually had an effect? Is Tracy around to comment?

Improving on this particular mod is what I'm trying to get more info on. Anyone given it a shot & have any seat-of-yer-pants results to report?

Why would the (seemingly more usual) bell-mouthing of the stock intakes work, when combined with drilling holes in lid? Seems counter-intuitive...

  7. I like him!

But, I must confess, I like that Ratchethack bloke too - before my time, I know he's gone but I find all the old posts great fun reading! He'd have my vote to welcome back.

Then again, my 'ol Ma admonished to alway's say to nasty kids, "Sticks & stones may break my bones - but names will never hurt me!"

And seeing this is a bloody free-speech forum, just how violent can it get?

F@ck it! I thought guzzi blokes had pride in being are bit odd, rude, cantankerous etc! But thin-skinned as well?

Better hope Baldrick never turns up here!!!

So here's to all the mad, bad guzzi nutters riding, pontificating & annoying the hell outta each other! :drink:

  8. As I said, he's notoriously full of shit, so who knows? He says he still has it, but it's in storage somewhere so I can't grab back the carbon-fiber fairing he stole from me. He grew disillusioned with his V11 when he finally realized that it wasn't a fluke that my Eldo with cast-iron touring tires could leave his "fastest Guzzi on the West Coast" with race rubber for dead on any twisty road. Then, he bought an RC-51 and did a few track days on it. then, he sold that and now "street races" a Morphous scooter. He doesn't show his face much in places I go.

He is special isn't he. I remember a few yrs ago I spotted him [or should I say I spotted his bike, perfect for those color blind] at the Vashon TT, resplendently parked at a corner so everyone could see him. He was sitting there revving his bike up, without his helmet on, just revving it up and looking at everyone, a real attention whore we all thought. Didn't know he would be stupid enough to steal from the only Guzzi shop worth visiting in the PNW. That's ok, my opinion of him can't get any lower.

Been scooting around reading up all I can on Mike Rich piston swaps when I stumbled over these comments...

Just wanna clarify, is this Enzo the same bloke aka. Captain Nemo?

  9. Here are some photos of the Mike Rich "drop in" pistons I received the other day in advance of my engine case swap.

I can't offer much technical detail other than they are lightweight, with an "improved squish", and about 10.5:1 true CR in my case(due to some previous work), but normally about 10:1 true. They also have an anti-friction coating on the skirts.

If I recall, they were about $330 for the set.

For more info, contact Mike Rich, at Mike Rich Motorsports:

You know what Mike? If it is as you say that on the basis they are truly plug & play, I'm gunna help get the ball rolling & put my hand up for a set. Seems these items may prove to be a bit of a rare opportunity insomuch as not being available too often - not to mention price rises!

One last question with this particular P&P - sure no fuelling or balance issues are incurred?

Higher compression AND with less ping? Sounds like a great little win-win p&p pep-up in that case...

    Cheers!

  10. Went hunting & found this from 2004, but would'nt mind more comprehensive info on full range of benefits.

Some Mike Rich "marketing info" on the pistons:

    From: MRMSPORT1@aol.com

    AS FOR MY PISTON KIT-

THEY INCREASE ACTUAL MEASURED COMPRESSION FROM AVERAGE 9.4 / 9.6 TO 1 TO AN ACTUAL 10.25 TO 1.

EXPECT 2 TO 3 HP ( SOME HAVE SAID MUCH MORE)

THEY ARE DESIGNED TO HELP ELIMINATE DETONATION AND INCREASE PERFORMANCE WITH BETTER AND LESS OBSTRUCTED BURN.

    THANKS AGAIN -----------MIKE RICH

  11. Say Mike...

so for cost of $495.00 just what is the sum total benefit that is gained?

Are there other changes necessary to be done to fully exploit this swap?

What limitations do the stock pistons give as compared to the MR's?

Is one to assume from Rich's reluctance to have 12 sets sitting on shelf

that these pistons give small gains? I mean, if they're so good why don't

V11 owners clamber all over each other to get ahold of 'em?

Or, is it, like me, a lack of full understanding of the merits?

If I knew exactly what to expect I'd be able to weigh up the pros & cons

of your request to add to the list!

    Care to enlighten?

    Thanks, ScuRoo

  12. Ello all, Newbie/FNG here. Had my V11 Ballabio for about a year now, like my newborn, it's trying at times, but love it. I was thinking about going to the MG celebrations in Italy in Sept, is there a trip being organised? Cheers, FNG.

    Hey Naveyblue

    Let you know asap.

Can't confirm definitely yet, but I can advise 'maybe' - depends if all the ducks line up...!

Er, or should that be geese! Umm, goose?

  13. The power delivery is different than I've ever felt on this bike. It starts out tame, but builds real power exponentially with RPMs. I mean, it feels just like the RC51 which is a bike that you need diapers to operate correctly. The Honda did this too, Exponential Acceleration©.

So the bike is truly complete. Buttery drive. Not loud. Great power. Great handling. And, it looks really cafe racer style sort of chopped up and personalized. Dave Richardson remarked that it looks so hotrod. I think it looks really American that way.

As American as Sesame Street & Grease! http://youtu.be/rj23faSZ64U I reckon!

O'kay enzo, keep the Kermit's http://jaipatoukompri.free.fr/kermit.gif but, please, just add a little lippy as the final touch! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BP3zPc6jPlk/SngKdcgCDNI/AAAAAAAAAy8/N5bvr9F6UlM/s1600-h/kermit_1.jpg

  14. :notworthy: Guzzi muse!

    Look forward to your report!

Bung a couple of these on first - My link - sticking out the sides before you make up your mind to add a couple of ram-air scoops in place of those damn frogeyes.

    A arse-end ram-air goose - now who'da thought...

Give this duck a run for his money! My link

If it works well - it sure would look well insane!

    Cheers!
