  1. Jason, You will have it back soon. I talked to Jim yesterday and he said it was about done. I called to let him know about the wheel bearing thing on my bike. I live in Lincoln, NE so it may be awhile before I can make it to Ned's again but you never know I might just get the urge to do it sometime. Good riding and I hope all goes well from here on out. Oh, yes. You are not the only total Guzzi nut around. I have ridden them exclusively now for almost thirty years. Present number in garage is three. Ray
  2. doc, It was on the drive spline side. The bearing on the brake side was fine. John, The wheel spindle on my bike was set to the factory spec of 120nm judging by the effort it took to break the nut loose. As my troque wrench only goes up to 75 ft/lbs this is what I set it to for reassembly. 120nm is around 88 ft/lbs. Given the range of error in most ckick type torque wrenches I am sure this is close enough. There was no problem with wheel rotation before or after assembly. What did you back your setting off to? 3. Hi Jason, I bought my bike form the same place I think. Ned's in Riverside if my guess is right. Jim said that he was getting a V11 Sport in with a possible clutch problem. I have 7k on mine so far with no clutch trouble yet. All of my stuff has been the usual early V11 stuff. Failed tach, relays, cracked side cover and the first battery died an early death. Oh yea, and now a bad rear wheel bearing. All taken care of by myself with Jim getting the parts to me in very short order. What did you find out on the clutch deal? When I had my rear wheel off to check out the noise the dealer had done a great job of lubracating everything. Ray
  4. Hello All, Well, I found my "clicking" noise coming from the rear drive area. The rear wheel bearing on the bevel drive side was bad. It was not seated all the way into the wheel race cup. The spacer was just a little too loose in the wheel between the bearings. After seating the new bearings it feels just right. The suspect bearing had developed a bad notch and was very rough at 7k miles. My dealer had done a very good job of lubracating the splines, drive shaft joints, ect. So I will wait until the next service to relube the U-joints. Now that I have had the rear wheel off I see how the rear end is set up. Very diffrent form the older bikes indeed. Later Ray
  5. Hello All, I live in Lincoln, NE and have been riding Guzzis for a little over thirty years now. I have at present three of them. The latest being an 01' VllS. The majority of my experience is with the older models of course. This forum has been a very good sorce of information on what is to me quite a different beast. My touring bike is an 81' V1000 G5 that I bought new. I have not posted much yet as my experience level with the Sport is not great. I have almost 7k on it now and am very pleased with it. I have had some of the common problems listed here and all of them have been taken care of by the dealer and myself(he is 350 miles from here) in little or no time. My only other Guzzi sport bike was a new 76' Le Mans 850 that I rode for ten years and then sold. A mistake that I have regretted for a long time. I hope this forum keeps going and maybe sometime I will have gained enough knowledge to contribute more often. Ray Rowen Hello Again, Well its been some time since I posted the above. The V11S now has a little over 10k on it and is out from under warrenty. I am waiting to take it to my dealer for the tranny recall work. I still love the bike and will be getting it taken care of as soon as I get the call to bring it in. I will let the list know how my experience with the repair goes and what if any thing seems diffrent when I get it back. RR
  6. Hello All, As you are talking about the alignment on the rear drive I have a related question on the nature of this beast. I have put many miles on the older model Guzzis and am new to the V11 type rear drive set up. My Sport has 7k on it now and at times when I roll it into the garage after a short ride I can hear a light clicking noise coming form the drive line. On the older bikes this always means U-joint trouble so I took a look at it. I found no apparent porblem and noticed the alignment marks you speak of. I also noticed that the entire drive box actually is able to move a few .001" on the rear axel. I am at this time assuming that this is normal. My question is how much play or "float " is normal? As well does anyone have any idea what my clicking noise is. It occours every few revolutions of the shaft. When the bike is up on the stand and the rear wheel is rotated there is no sound at all or any play in the wheel bearings. RR
