i've read that it's confirmed...

sachsenring! total length 3671 metres, 780 straight. i'd have to bet on rossi to win ! especialy based on his past performances, last years win from 10th on the grid was legendary. hayden went well as did pedrosa,

 

so my prediction for this round. 1. rossi

2. hopper

3.stoner

4. pedrosa ''but hayden could upset this based on his last round...

Gotta love the way the doctor scythed through the masses last week to win. there just seems an inevitability to the way he competes. 100%, 100% of the time.

It's funny ,but I've never felt that exhileration watching any body else dominate a motorsport.Maybe it's because every week there is never a certainty of winning. Great fun.

American GP - Indy in, Laguna out

Moto GP will race at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway next year when the race switches from its current home at Laguna Seca.

Been hearing rumors of this for awhile, but everyone state side assumed it was going to be in addition to Laguan Seca. Looks like that's not the case. So much for "home track" advantage in 2008.

I thought they just spent millions revamping Laguna to make it better for motoGP???

Indianapolis has only four turns and none are very exciting. This sport could get as boring as NASCAR pretty fast. :(

I imagine they could make S sections in the straights or route the bikes through the infield. :wacko:

Let's keep our fingers crossed that it stays at Laguna, which is rich in traditional sports racing.

David, I agree it sounds strange. As I said, all the rumors were of an additional US round, not one in lieu of Laguna. Have to wait and see.

 

As to configuration, that too has been subject to much speculation. As you probably know, there's already a road course that uses just the front straight. Speculation is they'll run clock wise (see figure below). How much additional work Tony George will do to get it up to Moto GP spec is unknown, of course. There are limits, as Indy without using the front straight would not be Indy. Also, a place built to hold 225,000 people may look a little empty given the average size of Moto GP crowds.

As much as I love Lagune Seca, having been to all the GP's, and many WSB, it's too small for GP bikes, even 800's. Superbikes can barely stretch their legs.

That said, Indy's road race circuit is a joke. There are only 2 tracks in North America that GP bikes can run properly, Road America, and Road Atlanta. As a west coaster, it hurts to say this, but it's true.

looks very bad,

a long straight, some hairpins and worst of all most curves tightens at the end...

typical car track not suited for flowing bike races... perhaps it should be run the other way around?

but havn't they allready done that. turn one looks brutal..wouldn't you think they would have a decent grand prix track...seems they can't think outside the circle. :(

Isn't Barber trying to get MotoGP as well ? I haven't been riding there but i've heard it's a marvellous place and a great track. And it has a great collection/museum with, among other bikes, a Ghezzi-Brian stw 1100.

Here's a release from Speed TV confirming that Indy will get a round. However, they talk about CCW configuration, and no mention of Laguna losing its event. http://tinyurl.com/2s2fwb

 

The CW configuration posted was sheer speculation, but was an attempt to figure out what to do with the concrete lined corners at the end of the straight if the track is run CCW. Placement of the grand stands dictate incorporating front straight and those specific two turns of the oval.

 

As regards Barber, I think they made a proposal that was rejected based upon the size and configuration of the track - not enough straight away for the big bikes. I don't know - never ridden it myself, but from reports it's a beautiful and technically challenging track.

If they were to address the safety issues then Mosport would probably be the most Euro track in North America. It was the only track that Mike Hailwood ever enjoyed over here! I really miss the times I raced there.
