crash bungs ,sliders .

hi all

seen on e-bay uk that someone has crash bungs attached to top of cylinders . think they are called rosso pura ,anyone know of these or web site , anyone else have them attached to top of cylinders. don't really want to snap a few fins off .any answers would be appreciated. cheers rac.

You mean the ones that look like a skateboard wheel bolted to the (cylinder) head guards? Try the row of sponsor's links at the top of the page: you've got MPH, Rossopuro & TLM, all of whom are likely to have'em. If not, you can always chase down some of the other Guzzi parts specialists.

 

Personally, I think they look pretty dopey, but if they keep you from breaking the sparkplugs off when you drop it so you can still ride home to fix the other rashed parts [which the stock head guards are proven not to do], who cares how dopey they look? :)

didn't see that at the top of the page :notworthy: ,does this mean i am blind and i need glasses :rolleyes: , think i'll get a eye test ,trouble is if i have glasses and put them down ,won't be able to find them because i can't see. <_ emmmm . thanks for posts .rac>

Yes they do work well, even though they are ugly. Have saved my V11 from any major damage on two occasions when otherwise I may have broken brake levers, plug caps etc.

The ads at the top of the page are "flash" modules; do you have flash turned off in your browser? I use Firefox, so unless I click on the little buttons marked "f", the flash doesn't load & distract me. They're all in the "Site Sponsors" pane directly between the "V11LEMANS.COM" header and the article/thread pane. Maybe you need to click on the "Show|Hide Sponsors" toggle at the upper right?

I crashed last summer in Italy on a lonely mountain road, my spark plug broke, and that was the end of that trip. I had to call for help, (and an ambulance), but I missed the Rosso Puro bumper parts.

 

I ordered the parts as soon as i got home, from Hein Geriche in Germany who is an ROSSO PURO dealer. In Denmark Guzzi spare parts is something you order from a foreign country.

 

 

Not pretty, but a way to get over smal accidents, I go for it

Stout, properly sized aluminum head protectors, as opposed to those too-small and too-weak head protectors fitted by the factory to modern Guzzis, will do everything those RP spools will do and not look so obtrusive.

 

We make a set at Moto International, for example, that have saved damage to hundred ob ikes in crashes. A guy brought one in last week, frome abike he crashed at 55 mph. It skun up the guard pretty well, but his plug cap didn't even tough down, let alone break.

I too got my Moto Int'l guards from Greg after a minor lowside last year (leaning in on freezing cold tires :homer: ). Glad to know how well they're holding in a crash--though I hope I'll never find out first hand. ;) I thought about painting them black like the originals, but not sure what's the best way to do it. Lowest priority anyway, I'd rather go and ride, but there's still too much ice, like never before :(.

I have mixed feelings about the Rossopuro sliders. I had a set on DirtyBird #1. They prevented a lot of damage when the bike tipped over when parked on a steep hill, but the entire head guard snapped off when I crashed last September:

As you can see, the entire guard was torn off the head. Notice that the outer mounting screws weren't torn out of the head like the two inner screws. The head guard snapped at these two points. IMHO the metal thickness at these mount points is way too thin (less than half the thickness of Moto International's head guards.) Also the screws that attach the spool and it's mount were sheared off (wrong grade fastener?).

 

My gut feeling is that the sliders can create too much leverage against the four mount points of the guard (much more than guards w/o the sliders), which can cause enough damage to the head to render it unsalvageable.

 

In the case of my crash, I don't think any head guard could have prevented the damage done to the head because of the angle and amount of force of the impact. BUT, IMHO these protectors could cause more harm than good.

For what it's worth; when I mounted my guards I changed the M6x25 mm screws involved, to M6x30 mm, in order to still use the available threads in the head. It may seem insignificant but I suspect it just might be what eventually saves the day.
