HELP!!!!!!!! my tenni has started to cut out, start bike up and go for a run, travel about 10 mins and then feels like its running out of fuel, have to pull over before she cuts out

ran with tank cap open to discount vapour lock

tried playing with cut out switch no difference

changed plugs no difference

then found if i turn ign off, wait till count of 10 then turn back on bike will run ok for about 10 mins then do same again

i think i may have a duff ecu but hope that someone will know better

thanks in advance

My first thought was a coil, but that would not re-set with the key. Once they over-heat, you sit for awhile...

Is it cutting out, like in immediately going from running to not running, is it a slow loss of power, like it is still firing but there is nothing to burn, or an intermittent miss that continues to get worse? This will help narrow it down to a fuel or spark issue.

I'm not familiar with the workings of the ECU, but someone here may know if the programing includes a timed "fuel enrichment" program or a cold-run program that pushes extra fuel until the bike warms up. I know about the temp sensor, but could it also have a timed program that once it shuts off the regular programing doesn't take over?

I am thinking that the temp sensor is supposed to tell the ECU the bike is warmed up and it is time to lean the mixture. What if the ECU just switches maps, and the system is timed as a fall-back for a faulty temp sensor? If for some reason it failed to switch maps, once you hit the time mark, it shuts off the cold fueling map but doesn't engage the regular one? Would a faulty temp sensor cause that to happen?

Just thinking out loud, but I would check my temp sensor connection just in case. Your ECU may turn off the cold run program, but not be receiving the input necessary to start the regular run program, and just stop giving you any fuel. Of course, I am probably way off base and you will do extra work for nothing!!!

thanks for the reply

bike will be running ok but then starts to fell like its running out of fuel and starts to miss/splutter when you try to accelerate untill it just wont pull at all

what i ended up doing today to get homew was to pull into slow lane pull clutch in and turn ign off, coast for count to 10 then turn back on and bike would run ok for about ten mins and i would have to do the same again

i was thinking that ecu was maybe resetting it self (if thats the term) and had some sort of default setting untill a senser or something changes something

i'm sure that some one has an answer for me (please!!!!!!! )

if it was the temp senser what would the symtoms likely to be???

Have you upgraded the relays yet?

My :2c: Check your battery and charging system (I think > 13 or so volts when running) and make sure the battery terminals are tight. Next step is relays, then fuel fiter or pump. I betting Al is right and you have a flaky relay.

she's got a new battery last august, new relays in november, even tried the old relays but no difference, batterys kept upto charge with an optimate charger (cos thats how i lost my last battery through going flat)

seems strange that she will run ok if i turn ign off for 10 secs then restart and she will run ok for about 10-15 mins????

thanks for the ideas/replys though, please keep them coming as i'm sure someone will have the answer

For what it's worth I had an ECU hang or reset intermittently (like once in 100 km) until I swapped relays and did some extra grounding. Many different parameters but the behaviour is somewhat comparable. My symptoms was sudden death, as if I had turned the engine off.

A tell-tale that the ECU had hung was that the tacho immediately went down to zero even if I coasted, watch that!

I didn't have to wait 10 seconds, just flip the emergency switch off-on instead of pulling the clutch and all was good again in a second.

Guest frankdugo

just some more things to check.the ignition wire -black /w-belive it goes to relay #1 the base has a solid connection.the side stand safe switch. by the by tenni people, just looked at #140--very nice--asking price seems high.

Your symptoms sound strange. Is it a gradual failure or all of a sudden.

I would reseat all the connectors you can find, especially those for the oil temp and air temp sensors. Has the fuel filter been changed recently?
