On the Lighter side

I think my taste in music runs a different direction, so I can't help you there. However, a very, very cheap place to legally download is allofmp3.com. It's some Russian outfit. I've been using it for a couple years now and had no problems. It can be slow occasionally.

Right now I'm listening to Liz Phair's new CD, "Somebody's Miracle." Fabulous! I've been a fan of hers ever since I lived in Chicago in the mid-'90s.

Others I listen to a lot:

Rory Gallagher

The Nighthawks (http://www.thenighthawks.com

Nils Lofgren http://www.nilslofgren.com

Jimmy Thackery http://www.jimmythackery.com/

Anders Osborne

Well, these are just a few. There is really so much good music out there...just not on mainstream radio. You can also try out http://www.paragon.com--you can set up your own 'stations' and they try to fit in music that's similar to what you start with. It's actually kinda cool.

I'll look into those listed, Liz phair is HOT, but the reviews on her new album left me not wanting to take it for a spin. best review I saw was lackluster at best. :huh2:

You like Nils Lofgren look into Tom Waits. Similar style not voice tho.

Here is a taper site that streams some nice background music for the garage:

www.sugarmegs.org

Here is a recent live recording of Richard Thompson that has 1952 Vincent, I like it better than the CD version.

I also liked the James Gang live from 200?, hard rocking!

come'on she's one of the greatest song writers of our day. Not like I listen to her all the time but if I get into a gaelic mood I pop in some Enya or Celtic Woman. ITs not too often but its relaxing at least. :huh2:

F**k music. I find myself listening to talk radio exclusively for the last 7-8 years.

When I did listen to music, classic David Bowie was always my fave...

...also, King Crimson (oddly enough, I preferred the latter-day Adrian Belew-led band)...

Gary Numan, Utopia, Paul Weller, Gang of Four, Eno...

I think that music only holds real meaning to young, feeble minds -- then we grow up and are corrupted by the realities of the daily grind. It's never really the same past your twenties...

I will also submit that -- though I have made some $ off it -- hip hop is the final step in the decline of western civilization...

Yours,

the grumpy gimp

sunny & 65 - grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
