A Season's Greeting

Recommended Posts

For my Liberal friends;

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an enviromentally conscious, socially responsible, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the generally recognised winter solstise holiday, practiced within the traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect of choice given you to practice or not practice any at all.

And I will also wish you a fiscally successfull, personally fulfilling and medically uneventfull recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but with due respect given to calendars of other cultures around the world.

For my Conservative friends;

A very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy New Year.

Ciao, Steve

Well, you may be joking, but they brought it in the news here that in England they indeed have a strongly growing tendency to abolish X-Mas parties at work not because of the money they cost the companies but because of reasons of political correctness. No Christmas party because of our non-christian colleagues. Is this liberal or just stupid?

It's political correctness gagging reality. It's only going to get worse in the first world.

The western world is going mad - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6218214.stm?ls I fear a backlash is on the horizon.

Jack Straw used to be Home secretary and then Foreign Secretary and now a backbencher, he recently has raised concerns with Muslim women wearing the veil in Britain. Some will say his fall from grace was at US request as not in line with their policy and he is now taking a more robust stance against Muslim culture and overly PCness to reintegrate himself.

Personally I'm a Christmas humbug person, it's too commercialised. I'm even less taken with New Year. As a police officer every one loves you 15 minutes either side of midnight and the rest of the year they wouldn't give you the time of day. There's nothing like a drunken woman trying to slobber all over you, when you're stone cold sober :bbblll:

But I'd still wish you a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" . Am I a hypocrite?

Well, I don't think there's much question about it. Yes. <_<;):whistle:

Hmmmm I am sure this story grew out of some truth, but it is not common at all- everyone I know is having works Xmas parties- I have had 2 already this week!!!

Some of the stuffy press likes to print sensationalist stories like this, and some people (mainly retired Majors) believe it happens all the time.

If you were in Leeds any night this week you would have seen hundreds of people out celebrating at Xmas parties and in restaurants.

Many of my colleagues are Muslim and still have a good time when they go out whether they drink or not. They also have no objection to the celebration of Xmas- in fact they think its funny when over sensitive politically correct councils put up banners saying "Season's Greetings" rather than "Merry Christmas".

Its only unfourtunate that the coming fall of western civilization won't be to the tunes of Punk. (they were too visionary in the 70s). It'll be to the sounds of "you-name-it" lame ass Pop Groups put together by boardroom focus groups. Coldplay, Lifehouse :vomit:

Conservatives can be just as politically correct as liberals (i.e. lefties for those with the Queen's tongue).

The biggest bore in my local pub is a conservative jack-ass. Although it has been entertaining to see him dealing with all the egg on his face as the white house Bush-wacks itself.

Me? I just stay out of it. It gets my thinking too uptight, man. :rasta:

I throw some Credence in the tape deck and abide.

Mattress, I like your avatar. The Dude abides.

Christmas, as a commercialized holiday, doesn't do much for me. It's a good excuse to hang with family and friends, though. Really, why would anyone complain about that? (it's a rhetorical question...)

New Years, on the other hand rocks. Any excuse to blow up several pounds of high explosives is A-OK in my book.

I mean firecrackers. I said firecrackers, didn't I? :D

I may borrow this, with your permission, for another forum I frequent where it will be equally appreciated.

Cheers

No problem Jim, I sort of borrowed captions of it from another forum!
