guzziart 340 Posted April 19, 2023 The above is a partial view of two timing cover gaskets I bought for my Lemans. The gasket on the left is an aftermarket item that does not line up with bolt holes, when dry fit it distorts and will not lay flat on cover mating surface. Since I wasn't confident about using this gasket I bought a "genuine" Guzzi gasket (#05001231) on the right. The gasket on the right fits, lines up with bolt holes, lays flat when dry fit, etc. Now the question is... should this be installed with or without gasket sealer???!!! 1
audiomick 2,071 Posted April 19, 2023 Going by what I have read in the German forum on multiple occasions: all thing being equal, a gasket should not need additional sealant. Putting a smear of grease on the gasket before you mount it can make it come out easily the next time the cover is opened, and might make it re-usable. Probably more relevant for things like rocker cover gaskets and such that come off "regularly", but it can't hurt.
guzziart 340 Posted June 24, 2023 I installed it dry, I've got about 600 miles on it now and no leaks....fwiw. 1
