  1. Damn, Jet, sorry about your bike. I've had bikes knocked over while parked a few times, and it gets my blood boiling every time. You have a good attitude. Good luck with the fix.
  2. Nice. I never think to check ebay.
  3. Thanks guys. My local automotive shops carried the fuses but no holders. That looks like the right thing, docc, thanks for the link. "You could always drill the legs of a maxi-fuse and connect it to the wires with bolts & lugs." That's a great idea. It would be so easy to check on the condition of the fuse.
  4. I was wondering why my battery was dead after a short ride today--especially since it was fully charged this morning and I checked the charging voltage before I left. The ATO fuse melted somewhere along the way. I'm just glad I didn't go for a longer ride. So... anyone know where I can get a 10gauge MAXI fuse holder?
  5. Cheers, guys. I will put it out of mind then.
  6. I finally got around to doing some more work under the tank today. Replaced the air filter with a fresh OEM filter. The existing filter turned out to be a nice K&N unit, which I have saved for the next filter change. I will have to buy K&N oil for it. Installed a vent and drain union for the tank. The PO had these lines plugged, and I've recently encountered some tank suck, so those plugs had to go. I zip tied a drain line to run with an oil line; now the tank drains/vents behind the engine. Checked valves while I was at it. RH valves were pretty much perfect--the same as I'd set them in February. The LH, though, I had apparently reversed (.20 intake .15 exhaust...). Whoops. I fixed those. One question for you all. My LH valve chatter is markedly louder than the RH side. It is not a bad sound, just... louder. Less muffled. I've read it is not unusual for one cylinder to be louder than the other on these Guzzis. Is this true? I am inclined to not worry since the bike is starting and performing rather well and I am used to noisy engines.
  7. Committed. USA, 2000 V11 Sport
  8. And one for me, please.
  9. Speaking of missed shifts... what a difference a few degrees of the gearbox acorn nut adjuster makes.
  10. Took it for a ride. What a cracking bike. Had a few missed shifts due to my confused foot--a complication of Multiple Bike Syndrome. Pulling into my driveway I noticed an odd knocking sound. Fearing the worst (whatever that might be), I inspected the bike. What I found is a milestone for me in my Guzzi ownership--my first part that vibrated itself free!
  11. +1 Lucydad, I was in your shoes a few months ago. I pulled the trigger. There were/are some niggles but I don't regret it at all.
  12. Hey Gio. 11.4V at idle is very, very low. It seems like your charging circuit is severely underperforming (or totally inoperative if voltage does not rise with RPM?). Your reg/rec could be the culprit, but it could be anything on that circuit. I would not be surprised if you don't have the juice to sound the horn or run lights with 11.4V. I wouldn't worry about those problems until you diagnose out what is happening with your charging system. NB: I'm not an expert, so we'll wait for Kiwi_Roy to render the definitive opinion .
  13. First, your battery voltage is pretty low. Charge it if you can and ensure battery connections are clean and tight. Looks like you may have a problem with the charging circuit. There are several trouble areas. First check that your 30Amp charging circuit fuse is intact and has good connections. From there work your way backwards to the Reg/Rec under your oil cooler. Check that all connections from this unit and clean and tight. If problems persist check the condition of the yellow wires from the stator.
  14. I got my OBD2 and adapter cables and hooked up GuzziDiag to the bike today. Throttle sensor voltage looks good. CO Trim is already set to 0. I'll poke around a bit more and take a look at the map but I think I might leave it alone. The bike's running well. I'm feeling pretty confident in the bike now. Heck this bike has needed less sorting in the first couple months than my Beemer did. According to other forums it was supposed to have fallen apart by now. ToDos: Lube up the drive shaft and splines. Replace 30A charging fuse with 30A Maxi fuse. Replace idiot lamps with LEDs. Inspect, fix grounding issues, and possibly replace impossibly vague Veglia gauges.
  15. That stern look you gave must've set those relays straight.
  16. I spooned on a new Pirelli Angel GT front tire. The new rubber spooned on very easily with hand tools. All the bearings look & feel good. So the cleaned up wheel went right back on. I don't have a factory stand yet so I had to make do with various stands, jacks, and pieces of lumber. Before I got this Guzzi I swore I would never buy another bike that lacked a center stand. I remember why now.
  17. The takeover was pretty recent I recall. Just about a year ago. I didn't know that about Yokohama/Shinko. It's funny, some people lambaste Shinko as cheapo rubber, and they are that to some (ok, a large) extent, but I rather like them. I've run a few sets of their dual sport/adventure tires with no complaints. I've heard bad things about their sport/sport-touring lines though.
  18. I put an Angel on the rear and I like it. Don't know why, but it was a bit disappointing seeing it was made in China. Pirelli sounds Italian right? I know what you mean. But the quality of the product seems unchanged since the ChemChina takeover.
  19. Went for a nice ride. Got a flat front tire pulling into my driveway. I couldn't have chosen a better time for it. I've got a Pirelli Angel GT on order.
  20. Interesting. Have you ridden with and without this vacuum line? What are the results?
  21. I finally did my TPS calibration and TB sync today. It all went pretty smoothly. The TPS was set at 250mV when closed. I bumped it down to ~150mV. The TBs were pretty well synced already, but I fine tuned them. I also increased the idle as it was a bit low (though I already miss that tractor thumping at idle). I took it for a quick ride after tuning and you can really tell a difference. It wasn't night and day but the bike is noticeably sharper. One problem I encounter was that the PO had plugged the vacuum ports in the intake manifolds with bolts, and evidently had overtightened them--the threads in the manifolds were not in good shape. That said, I was able to install my motionpro vacuum ports and reinstall the plugs afterward very tenderly. Next time I'm up for a TB sync I may replace the intake manifolds to be on the safe side, though I suspect a helicoil would suffice for the application as well. Next up: get the correct OBD2 cable and adapter to adjust fuel trim and play with ECU. Buy a grease gun to lube up the drive shaft.
  22. There is an ATO fuse but replacing it with a MAXI fuse is next on the list. Those burned fuse photos are pretty terrifying. I'm just excited to see some good charging numbers.
  23. I received my EDLGUZ-VoltRect unit from EME yesterday and installed it this morning. I strung 10 gauge wire from the battery to the regulator/rectifier area and spliced together all the pertinent wires. I now reach 14.5V around 2k RPM. That is quite a difference.
  24. Thanks czakky. I checked the stator wires, they looked good to my electrically-untrained eye. I hit them with some contact cleaner just to be safe.
  25. I installed my new battery and fastened an extra regulator ground to the engine. I replaced all fuses and cleaned up every connection on the charging circuit. I inspected the alternator and the wires look good. Charging performance is a bit improved, but still low. Think 12.55V at idle instead of 12.4. At this point I'm considering throwing a new RR unit at the bike. They are not too expensive at EME. Anyone install this unit? http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/product-p/edlguz-voltrect.htm
