Tricky thing with this illustrated exercise, was to mount the rider in full gear and all luggage to assess the "weight distribution."

Its an interesting exercise. You see race bikes often quote 53/47~ but I always wonder if this is with the rider.

In fact, anytime I see these stats I think its irrelevant without an average sized rider on board.

Hi knumbnutz, thanks for notifying. Can you tell the brand of the fairing and post a picture of the fairing? Thanks emoji106.png

The pics will come later, the bike does not live with me at the moment, but at a friends bike shop.

    It is the magni fairing.

Will you advertise here? I would be very interested in the fairing

Send me a PM what you think it is worth/ willing to pay :D

It is now off the bike so all the part will go with it, mounting brackets and mirrors. I'll have to come back to you both with postage once it is boxed and ready to go.

  5. Hi All,

Hey has anyone looked at the Ti race ECU map? Are the any differences in the ECU  or is it just a map ?

I got a Race ECU with the bike - not installed - it came with a MyECU installed and tuned but i'm also wondering what is so different (and expensive) about this race ECU from Guzzi.

    Any info?

Thanks, but I rather the naked look, will be removing fairing asap :D I'll be selling off fairing, bag rack/bag and loads of other gear too.

  7. I have a Ti exhaust, on the bike but in excellent condition along with an unused ignition.

I have also got a brand new still in box, Remus Carbon fibre exhaust system.

Once I get some pics of both sets, I'll list them and keep the one of the sets.

I also have a set of headers with the forward set of crossovers, same as the Coppa in your pic.

I've got a bunch of stuff for sale (new gauges, fairing, tank bag, indicators, new key lock set(ign, fuel cap, seat lock), lafraconis, alt cover, bag rack,  mirrors, handlebar risers, triple clamp, dash covers, dash mounts etc) so I'll get it pictures, work out prices and then list them all at once.

  8. As of last friday, I have two V11's.

First is fairly customised and single seat. My new V11 is a 2004 Cafe Sport. Only one in 5 were bought into Australia i'm told and this one is in excellent condition. Its got carbon fibre bits all over, titanium mufflers and ohlins suspension. 2 seat, comfortable ride position and will get some loving in the twisties.

My other bike is a 1200 Griso SE. Its a beast and its reasonably stock with a few bling bits.

Now... I've had a older guzzi which was also done up as a cafe racer (was a mille gt) and it was a beautiful bike to ride  though I wouldnt be touring on it.

    So, I on had a V11, would I get another ?

The V11 is in my view the  first modern feel guzzi, great gearbox, reliable, comfortable, and beautiful, The griso is next step up in the modern stakes, slightly better gearbox, stronger motor, different style different ergonomics. The Cafe sport came at the perfect time and perfect $$, its too good to go past, but if I didnt have my V11 custom and just had the Griso, I would want the V11 cafe or any variant. But my thought is that my V11 custom is too different from the Cafe sport that it was ok to get.

So if it were me recommending something, I would say if you are going to change or customise the second V11 then I say go for it, but if youre going to have two similar V11 then I'd say, get a Griso or try one at least

    Re; high compression pistons.

The historic battle within hemispherical combustion chambers is always between compression and detonation. Firstly, in the U.S., the DOT mandates than anything sold for highway use operate on 87 octane fuel without destroying itself. So, if you're willing to use premium always (who doesn't, anyway?) there is a little room for increases.
    Here's where things get messy.
Firstly, tuning an engine to take advantage in the difference between 87 and 93 octane is something only an expert with a dynomometer, or a very experienced butt and ears, can do meaningfully. Secondly, there really isn't that much difference anyway. If you're capable of such, you're also capable of tuning your intake and exhaust, fuel and timing as is to achieve 80% of the difference with such a mild compression increase.
Lastly, altitude and camshaft have huge effect on cylinder pressures, particularly at the medium RPM range where detonation is most prevalent.
Hemispherical combustion chambers are the most efficient design from the perspective of (2-valve) valve/flow size and efficiency. But they are the worst for detonation.
The most effective counter to detonation is turbulence during compression, which achieves 2 specific things; improves homogenization of the mixture which removes 'dead' or 'late' spots in the burn; and speeds completion of burn which removes unburned mixture from corners which overpressure and detonate.
Without enormous and expensive changes, there's little we can do with stock Guzzi castings to improve squish, which creates turbulence. What I did on my LM1000 though, was to carefully measure quench-the actual distance between the piston and head- to be certain it was optimized. The term 'quench' is used, because it's known that the fuel/air mix *cannot* ignite within a narrow margin of distance. That distance is somewhere between .050" and .025". It's typically recognized that the worst contained distance for detonation with gasoline is about .080".
You can measure your quench with a piece of soft solder through the spark plug hole, to discover to some degree where you are and if taking a little off your cylinders may have some benefit. IIRC I took about .015" off the LM, which raised the compression by about half a point.
That said, it has a Web 86b camshaft, which although has far more lift than the stock cam, also creates much more cylinder pressure in the low RPMs. The combination requires that I retard the timing a couple degrees from stock to kill any apparent detonation. Tuning is ongoing, currently.

I always read these back before posting, and I'm never sure they convey sufficiently the information. :/

In Australia, we have 98octane fuel which pretty much every bike rider uses in their machines FWIW.

I ran a similar FBF in my ST2 with a bunch of mods, with about 10hp gain. I am still in the process (slack to finish) tuning my V11.

Im not running an airbox but have made velocity stacks with big K&N filters, and the FBF pistons which i think are .5 up on compression for memory. I have a fully programmable ECU to fit as well. The bike runs reasonably well and definitely has more HP over stock.

Do we every reeeeally finish tuning our bikes?????
