  1. Hey guys. I took a little break to settle into my last year of high school, but I'm back now. Here's an update. I got some new spark plug caps and put them on. I replaced the ecu mounts and dash mounts. I replaced the lines going to the charcoal canister and I'm working on the startus interruptus fix with Roy.
  2. I do not hear the pump run. I will check and make sure its plugged in correctly. My bike doesn't have an electric petcock. Also the starter switch and run switch does nothing now. I was hearing it before but it does nothing now.
  3. Here's an update. I found out why it wasn't starting. *cough* I forgot to plug in the TPS and MAF *cough* . I checked the cylinders to see if they are getting fuel and they are. The run/ starter switch still isn't working and neither is the neutral light on the dash. I'm really not sure what could be going on. I doubt it was the battery because its only 2 weeks old. I think I will get this running really quick. I just have to fix those 2 things.
  4. Hey Kiwi. Do you think the starter motor is ok? I'd hate to have to replace that. I also wonder if the ECU is fried. I accidentally touched my hex key between the battery positive and the ecu's shell. It was grounded so I hope it's ok.
  5. I will check tomorrow. The mosquitoes are out now. the headlight comes on with the key.
  6. The battery is a new gel battery and it is fully charged. I do have a good multimeter.
  7. Also the neutral light stopped working right after the starter motor stopped.
  8. So how I'm trying to start it is I turn the key to the right, flip the run switch on and pull the clutch and press the starter switch. I hear a couple clicks when I flip the run switch and then when I press the starter it sounds like a starter motor. I ran into a new problem now. I tried to start it and it didn't work so I tried again and the starter motor didn't make any noise and all the lights dimmed on the bike until I let go of the starter switch. I pulled the starter switch apart to see what was going on and it seemed fine so I put it back together and now neither the run switch or the starter switch do anything.
  9. I did drain the old fuel and replaced all the lines and filter. I just put a couple gallons in there. Is the run switch the one next to the ignition switch?
  10. Ok so I just tried starting it for the first time. It turns over but it isn't starting. I pulled the spark plugs and they were black so I replaced them with some new ones my uncle had. What else should I try?
  11. Is it ok to run 89 octane fuel in this bike?
  12. Hey guys. Is 20w50 the correct oil for a 2002 LeMans? Thanks.
  13. Really well! I have to take a break because I need some parts and I'm between jobs right now and go back to school very soon. I'm just doing some touch up on the fairings and fixing a couple rust spots on the frame currently.
  14. I actually play in 2 bands. Piano/ organ in a blues/ rock band and drums in a jazz band. I'm actually pretty surprised how easily this is coming together. Its so much nicer to work on than my car. So much cleaner and no rusty bolts.
  15. I fixed the exhaust rubbing issue! Your advice worked. I also redid the insulation on the fuel tank. Now I just have to wait for some more parts to come.
  16. Regarding the brake pedal hitting the exhaust... like doccs answer (he said it better than I did) the post I made earlier was an attempt to help you correct that problem. this post .. If she took a hard hit on the muffler, the muffler bracket (plate) or the hanger may be bent. The whole exhaust system may have been pushed to the left side a bit. (this can cause the exhaust to hit the brake pedal) You can loosen all the exhaust bolts and clamps and coax everything back. The right side muffler, in it's standard position, will look like it is further out than the left one. It was built this way. So don't let that mess with your head. Does it have the emission canister still on? It's the stupid looking thing attached to the bracket that the exhaust crossover is hanging from. With hoses coming out. Right in the center, in front of the rear tire. That hanger bracket could be bent too. This is all easy stuff. I will start working on this tomorrow. I just loosened all the bolts and kind of wiggled it around a bit. My garage is full of mosquitoes now so I will resume in the morning.
  17. What kind of brake fluid and clutch fluid is ideal? Do I need a special tool? Thanks.
  18. Hey guys! Here's a quick update. I got the fuel pump working with some help from Roy and some carb cleaner. I just sprayed some in the inlet tube and let it sit for a day and it started working. I replaced all the relays with ones from digikey. It seems to have fixed my electrical issues. I tweaked the mirror mount back into place with some vice grips. I epoxied the fairing crack. I finished replacing all the fuel lines and hose clamps. All their is to do now is figure out a way to stop the brake pedal rubbing the exhaust, replace the brake and clutch fluid, replace the gear oil, replace the engine oil, touch up the fairing with paint, fix the chin pad and re upholster the seat.
  19. Yes I oiled the gasket. I may drop the pan again tomorow and check it once more.
  20. That is trouble and should be checked at every filter change. Oil filters on these motors are a source of failure if they come loose, or if the gasket gets doubled. Hopefully, the motor has suffered no oil pressure losses . . . I feel a little nervous now about how tight I turned it.
  21. So I was changing the oil today and noticed there were 2 gaskets on the oil filter I pulled. This is wrong right? I know on cars you are not supposed to double gasket the oil filter.
  22. I got a set of NGK leads and caps from Moto International in Seattle. They look good after I wiped the pretentious "NGK Racing" white lettering off them using isopropyl alcohol. There is a nice anti abrasion sleeve over part of the lead so you can tie the lead to metal parts without a problem. And of course everyone knows that Moto Guzzis run best with red ignition leads. Ah man you shouldn't have rubbed the "NGK Racing" off. Everyone know that they add 20hp! I think my leads are fine but I may replace them at some point.
  23. I also notice my spark plug caps were torn. Does anyone know if the NGK caps on Harper's will work? I don't want to pay $50 for the OEM spark plug caps.
